I personally love this one and I'm not a veggie: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4540/crispy-greekstyle-pie- A doddle to make while looking good, not too unhealthy and tastes amazing. Just add a side salad and some balsamic. Always goes down well when made for others.
| You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help. |

Vegetarian restaurants on 19:48 - Aug 12 by phact0rri | I think eating vegan around pembs, (Im from Haverfordwest) and that haven't been a tough ask with some creativity Walnut Cafe I remember as being great, they are vegan and they do gluten free foods (my girlfriend has IBS). I am curious since we've gone Non-GMO if it'll be as easy, next time I have the trip back home. |
I live just outside Haverfordwest and a few weeks ago was trying to find a place which served vegetarian food as two of us are that way inclined. Tried loads of places, but most could only offer veggie lasagne (!). In the end we went to the Jolly Sailor in Burton who had 6 choices on the menu and two on the blackboard. Now, I couldn't tell you if my pumpkin tagine was home made or pre-bought, but it tasted fine and the other veggie meal was pronounced delicious. But shame on most other establishments in the area who only offer veggie lasagne. That was acceptable 25 years ago, but not now.

True this, when I first went vegan (getting close to twenty years now), I didn't expect to find much. usually there was excitement when one could have more at a restaurant than a shameful salad with onion, lettuce and tomato. But these days its expected there to be things of more substance on the menu. I currently live in Los Angeles in the United States, and were so pampered out here as vegitarians go its usually shocking going anywhere outside and finding less options "what do you mean its not GMO-free and certified organic?" Though if I'm honest its convenience with smog and long ques , to the beauty of west (and south) wales with a bit more cooking. Honestly it doesn't compare. And the world surely is changing. I'd not imagine as a fifteen year old that I could buy so much at the market now! [Post edited 13 Aug 2015 9:52]

Vegetarian restaurants on 09:54 - Aug 13 with 2299 views | waveydavey | You'd be hard pushed to find a restaurant in Swansea with no vegetarian options. All the Thai's have good tofu dishes - Thai Bach, Thai elephant and the Bay View, The Chinese cafes on Brynymor Road (especially the Favourite - No MSG) are particularly good. The Anarkali has a separate vegetarian section on the menu. Crumbs in Uplands is a good veggie cafe which is open on weekend nights also. PA's in Mumbles have a completely separate veggie menu. I could go on but I'm off for a bite to eat.

Thanks for the info. Better move to Swansea then! Wish the restaurants and pubs in Pembrokeshire could be a bit more adventurous! I found a nice Indian in Neath with a whole page of veggie options.

Vegetarian restaurants on 08:23 - Aug 13 by phact0rri | Is the egg for taste or a binder I wonder... seems like for taste where in I could make a thick tofu puree to make it 100% plant based me thinks... [Post edited 13 Aug 2015 8:23]

It is for a binder for the crumbs, and if you want to leave the egg out I'm sure tofu would do fine as a replacement.

I envy you, Pembrokeshire is a backwater when it comes to vegan or vegetarian food. There are a few places that offer enlightened stuff during the day, but try and find somewhere at night, other than Wetherspoons in Harford, with a real choice is very difficult as I found out.

Tofu is not really a great binder, its great for taste replacement. a lot of sticky fruits is what I use a lot in sweets baking, but this would need to be something else. they have actual egg replacers but I hate using them. I'll probably whip up a base with the food processor that'll work!

Grass is always greener I'd say. Granted there are plenty of backwater towns and villages I've lived in my time I couldn't wait to get out of. :) So who knows I enjoy my time when I'm visiting family, but its been a very long time since I actually had to live there (my accent has so little of welsh these days people tend to think I'm Canadian). So I'd probably have different thoughts staying around for a few weeks or a month or something! I do have a mate in hereford, who does a bit cooking (think he works at a pub or there abouts) I should ask him about it! See what he knows something.

I live in Georgia and I can tell you around my area you can count the number of vegetarian restaurants on one hand, in fact if you confessed to being a veggie to anyone of the redneck's around here you'd be called a 'pinko commie fagg0t' and be shot within 2 seconds of confessing your dietary preferences!

In pretty much every town in the UK you will find a lot of vegetarian food. Vegan can be a little harder, but is not problem at all in bigger cities (London is teeming with choice). BTW - on those parsnip burgers (which sound lovely) - the egg is only being used I suspect to get the breadcrumbs to stick to the burgers, so just use a plant milk instead. It works fine to bind (don't make it too wet - just a touch). Make sure the bread is vegan of course :-)

There's a few veggie options during the daytime, but the George's doesn't open at night any more. I know the place you mean on Castle Square, there was some reason why we discounted that. The Mariners Hotel did do a couple of decent sounding options, but they were unfortunately booked solid as they had some sort of do on. The Druidstone was also an option, but they were having one of their music weekends, and there was a 10 pound entry fee plus cost of food. Otherwise they would have been first choice actually.

The Druidstone? Is that the hotel at Druidstone Haven? Never been to the hotel but that's my favourite beach in Pembrokeshire.
