St Mary's Matchday Information Saints V Leeds United
Friday, 12th Aug 2022 13:38

There are a few changes afoot at St Mary's this season as well as some measures in place because of the current heatwave, as a courtesy for Southampton supporters we bring you the club's official matchday information.

Aside from other issues around the club, on one positive note, they are trying to make the matchday experience a little better around St Mary's and have now introduced pre match bars outside of the stadium for a drink pre match.

Whilst many will still prefer to use their normal pre match pubs etc, there are those who like to get to the ground early and take in the atmosphere and now they can have a pleasant drink outside of the stadium.

There are also more activities for kids and families

Here are the full details from the club:

Plan out your perfect matchday with lots of fun family activities - get the full details of what’s happening here.

Due to the ongoing heatwave, we are expecting a hot afternoon at St Mary’s. Water will be available at the kiosks inside the concourses, and one kiosk per concourse will remain open until the end of the game for soft drinks only. Standard plastic water bottles (lids will be removed upon entry) and sun cream will be permitted into the stadium to maintain supporter safety. We also suggest bringing a sun cap.

Fans are advised to arrive to the ground early to give ample time to collect tickets, getting through security checks, turnstiles and make their way to their seat ahead of kick off.
Please be aware that all bags will be searched on entry to St Mary’s, so only bring an A4-sized bag if you need to.

MATCHDAY BEHAVIOUR
If you witness any form of anti-social, abusive or discriminatory behaviour, crime, violence or the use of pyrotechnics, please report it to your nearest steward or police officer. Alternatively, text SFCReport to 60060 with a full description and location of the incident, giving as much detail as you can.

AROUND THE GROUND

NEW CATERING OPTIONS
Following fan feedback, we are delighted to be bringing you even more catering choice on matchdays in 2022/23. This season we are working closely with our new partners Feast It to introduce an ever-rotating squad of new locally sourced pop-up food venues serving everything from loaded mac ‘n’ cheese to authentic South East Asian street food and more. You’ll find the pop-ups on the corner of the Northam & Kingsland Stand and on the corner of Chapel & Kingsland on matchdays.

This week, Spice Shack (Indian Street Food), Sen Noods (South East Asian Street Food), and Evie’s Mac & Cheese will be located around St Mary’s!

NEW FAN BARS AND GASWORKS
You’ll be able to soak up the matchday atmosphere from three new fan bars outside St Mary’s. You’ll find them located on the corner by the bridge, outside The Gasworks and at the corner of Chapel & Kingsland.

Throughout the season, The Gasworks will also be open to all on a first-come-first-served basis from 3 hours before kick-off — with no membership required. The recently renovated and extended outdoor seating area makes the perfect place to enjoy a pre-match pint or cocktail and if you’re watching the game from the Kingsland stand you’ll also be able to access The Gasworks at half time.

In addition, we’re also opening up this popular sports bar post-match so that you can head there after the final whistle to watch the late game, which this Saturday is Brentford vs Manchester United.

MASCOT ZONE
Sammy and Mary Saint will be meeting fans and posing for photographs in our Mascot Zone, located on the corner of the Kingsland and Chapel stands.

SAINTS BRASS
Saints Brass are bringing the party atmosphere and providing your matchday soundtrack, playing family favourites ahead of the game - don’t miss their pre-match rendition of Oh When The Saints.

FANZONE
A popular place to enjoy the pre-match buzz, we’re going even further to make our Fanzone even more entertaining for 2022/23. Come and join us up to 3 hours before kick-off to take in the early match on the big screen, music and a new interactive Kick-About experience. Our famous Fanzone loaded fries are also back for the new season by popular demand.

ACADEMY ZONE
Put your skills to the test in our Academy Zone, located outside the Gasworks in the Kingsland stand, featuring free active play zone, a James Ward-Prowse scanning challenge, and inflatables!

CASHLESS STADIUM
Please be aware that St Mary’s is now a cashless stadium so make sure you bring an alternative payment method for any purchases at the stadium on matchdays.

FOOD AND DRINK
Due to the ongoing heatwave, we are expecting a hot afternoon at St Mary’s. Water will be available at the kiosks inside the concourses, and one kiosk per concourse will remain open until the end of the game for soft drinks only. Standard plastic water bottles (lids will be removed upon entry) and sun cream will be permitted into the stadium to maintain supporter safety. We also suggest bringing a sun cap.

REUSABLE CUPS
This season you’ll find reusable pint cups in the St Mary's concourses and the Fanzone in a bid to reduce single-use plastics - when you’ve finished with yours, please place it inside so they can be collected after each match, washed thoroughly and recirculated.

Free water would be good as was available at the Tottenham Stadium.

What's happened with the promised upgrading of the big screens? Has that been done?

I find the removal of lids on bottles ‘for safety reasons’ a bit ridiculous - you could take a flask, an umbrella when it’s raining but a lid on a bottle has to come off. Why?

I think it was someone’s bright idea once and it caught on but actually what does it do.

If someone threw a full bottle of water - it will still hurt if there is a lid on or not.

The kids who sit behind me though are guaranteed to knock their bottle over once or twice a game. Causing spills and wet jackets when the weather normalises.

Plenty of things to tackle of govern - lids on bottles isn’t one of them and I don’t want to worry about knocking the bottle over every time we score!!

A pet peeve, sorry to rant.

I agree Jameslastfan. Just put the lid in your pocket when you walk in. They do all this, and you could still throw a coin or.anything else. Those who want to misbehave will still do so. The other 99.9 % have to go through all this rubbish for nothing.
