Saints Could Appoint Sheffield Wednesday Boss Monday, 20th Jun 2016 16:30 Saints are rumoured to have Sheffield Wednesday's manager Carlos Carvalhal on their shortlist to replace Ronald Koeman Latest name to shoot up the bookies rankings is Sheffield Wednesday's Carlos Carvalhal, despite the fact he has little experience at the top level as a manager. The 50 year old from Portugal enjoyed a great first season at Wednesday taking them to the play off final which they lost to Hull City, but before joining the Yorkshire club had been inactive for three years. He has extensive experience in his native Portugal as a manager and a little in Turkey, but he does not seem to have enough in the areas that Saints would want, ie challenging for a top six place and the Europa League. Add to that the number of clubs he has had, barely staying anywhere more than a year and the fact that he has not got the clout to bring in big names and this seems a very strange option for Saints, if Eddie Howe was not seen as a big enough name then Carvalhal is even less. But it could be that Saints know their man and perhaps it is someone who is not high in the betting at the moment. bringing in stalking horses like Carvalhal puts people off the scent, it buys the club time meaning the can concentrate on the right appointment.
