I’m sure he’s lovely guy, but on the football, he’s the worst player we’ve signed and this was obvious to me the first time I watched him play. Sadly it looks like he’s not going to improve any time soon. His total lack of effort/application is unacceptable at this level. When he starts we’re starting with 10 men. Was exactly the same with Dozzell, who I’m also sure is lovely guy.
I also thought Smyth was a gash signing, but the big difference between the two is Smyth puts in 100% effort which makes up for his technical flaws and has steadily improved as a result. Madsen should be doing the same and if he did, I think fans would be more forgiving.
Only down side…I had to watch the game on my phone. Would have loved to be there. Mid-week night games are my favourite. In the cold, under the lights and three points, love it!!!
I lived out there for about a year (back in 2011/12) and it’s probably changed a fair bit…
Re: Auckland:
Karangahape Road (aka K Road) was the most interesting/cultural part of central Auckland (aka the CBD) A little bit alternative and there was access to a nice little urban park called ‘Myers Park’ via St Kevin’s Arcade. Nice places to eat and drink. It use to be the red-light district, that’ll give you some idea regarding the vibe. Always interesting characters hanging out.
To be honest, Auckland is a slow burner, not that impressive to visit. The CBD is interesting to explore for a few days with usual city activities. The suburbs are sprawling and difficult to access without a car. Public transport was terrible. There was also a surprising amount of poverty in the burbs, which really stuck with me.
I only spent a week in Wellington but that was enough to show me it had far more life to it.
My favourite city was Dunedin, not sure why, it just had a really nice vibe and felt more accessible.
Napier is worth a visit for the Art Deco.
I hiked the Abel Tasman and the Tongariro Crossing, both amazing and worth doing, even if you can only do a small section.
The most stunning drive I’ve done in my life was alongside Lake Pukaki towards Mount Cook. Blew my mind at the time.
Once you’re on the South Island you can’t really go wrong, it’s so stunning.
I’m sure whatever you end up doing you’ll have a great time.
Ps: Completely forgot to mention - you have to get yourself tip-top ice cream (hokey pokey or boysenberry) from a dairy in every city/town you visit and note how generous the proteins become the further out you go! It’s an essential part of Kiwi culture - so I’ve been led to believe by my family. Also, the fush and chips are great!
PNE were the worst team I’ve seen at Loftus Road so far this season.
So buzzing we won that. Fully deserved and a great team performance. It was absolutely rocking when Dunne scored! It’s been a remarkable turnaround, well done Rangers!
According to the PNE ticket site - within there allocation are 405 restricted view seats! The cheapest adult ticket is £30...surely one of, if not the, worst away days?
I would argue that we’ve come into form at a good time. It looks like we have our weakest team winning and still have players to come back. Two games without a senior striker and we score 5 goals and 2 clean sheets, that works for me.
Wouldn’t say Anderson is dead weight and as much as I have been critical of Madsen I’d argue that his lack of contribution has been less detrimental.
In terms of our survival chances I think they’ve gone up. Other teams will be dealing with similar issues as us and there’s definitely three worse teams. What we’ve got to look out for is Oxford/Portsmouth/Cardiff/Plymouth all have games in hand, we need their results to go our way, but we seem to be getting our house in order.
I like Millwall. They're my local club and my interaction with the fans has always been positive and never lived up to the *negative* stereotype. I get the impression that the Millwall fans that live in Lewisham are different to the ones who have moved out the area.
One thing that does make me laugh whenever I see it is a van in my area that has Millwall, communist, vegan and free Palestine stickers on it, haha. Those Marxist hunters need to look a bit closer to home.
Going into Wednesday’s game we mustn’t forget that our last two league home wins we’ve scored 7 and conceded 0. What we must forget is that there was 225 days between those games! 😆
Very encouraging performance, but…I think you nailed it with the conclusion, so let’s hope this is building towards something.
How was Andersen? Did he play better? Any signs of improvement?
Nardi has been phenomenal! I do wonder if he was signed purely on stats without anyone watching him like Madsen. If so, we clearly lucked out and goes to show how risky our recruitment strategy is.
