Mart Playing the loan players (and some others) isn’t winning us games or getting us to safety currently. Neither is changing the system that was working to something to justify those players. We only started turning the season around when we played 433 instead of whatever it was before that. Now we’ve seemingly gone back to the system we had when we struggled because we need to accommodate players and/or because that’s the system we have been told to play - maybe because we are now ‘safe.’ So what’s the benefit in playing loan players ahead of our own if: 1) we don’t win 2) we think we don’t need to win - see 1) 3) we didn’t need to change system to accommodate new players I’m a simple guy - just don’t get why you pissball about with players and systems that don’t need to change if you are doing well. It wasn’t that long ago we had a pretty good winning run. |

We certainly need to become more clinical and that comes with coaching, experience and practice. The good thing with younger players is they learn almost every game if they are going to progress. If you coach them the right way, then the more you play them, the better they get. The really good ones learn from mistakes and then prove their point by fixing them. I think we have several of those on our books now - let’s give them more minutes when we can, when there’s limited jeopardy. Some others will hit a level quite early - Sincs for example. Good time to sell him when we did. |

As for the situation we placed ourselves in with defenders, especially LB and possibly RB, WTF did we just sign/loan more minions ? I dare say we thought we didn’t need them and could probably push for a play off position and therefore went for luxury/utility over practicality and now we even change formation to fit Stuart, Kevin and Bob in the team. |

Clive - I think I said the same thing about the defence in my last paragraph but we can’t be starting 7 out of 11 players that probably won’t be here next year, especially when there is some cover from players that have renewed or still have some committed time to run next year. Let’s take Smyth. He’s been slated for a while, came good (got better) eventually. Probably needed a rest, Yang bought in for cover - no problem, sensible management. Last thing we need is a long term injury. But now he’s not starting and Yang is. Yang contributed to a goal against, Smith contributed to a goal for. Argue about quality all day long but the maths and the contract situation should be in favour of Smyth and if he’s shit as a starter, bring Yang on and give him 30+mins. We have Morrison on the bench - no minutes. Fine if he’s not fit but if he’s fit and he’s all that’s left next year, ‘kin get him some minutes. If Frey isn’t here next year - then maybe give him less time and rotate. We have an alternative and he’s just signed a contract - reward him for that and give him a chance in relative safety to get some more experience. Different situation I know but I’d also give Walsh some time based on Nardi’s recent performances. Give him a break and he’ll most likely come back stronger for the competition. |

I know the feelings well and share the same concerns but we’ll be right back in the relegation mix again next year if we continue starting loan players just to stay up. |

Interesting to see the number of views for this compared to the views on the match thread. I don’t know if that’s a reflection of the stage we are at in the season with bugger all left to play for and comment on or if it’s the sad state of affairs in world politics that justify so many comments on a football forum. |

Morrison was on the bench but Fox came on (and did ok) so something probably isn’t 100% yet because his record earlier this season was excellent. He’s also a possibility for midfield as I understood it, which would probably make him a potential stand in for Field. Given where we are and what we have left to play, we should be finding room for him ahead of loanees if fit, or he probably shouldn’t be on the bench. Which leads me to ask - why start loanees and out of contract (not going to renew/sign) players anymore ? Happy for them to replace as subs and rotate contracted players that need resting to avoid injuries but I’m not sure why we start them ahead of our own at this stage of the season. I know we can’t afford to do that wholesale because we’d lose most of the defence but we should really be more forward thinking about selection. Right now It’s not rewarding the players that have signed and committed already, which is a shame and it raises some questions about the clubs direction of travel. |

It was like watching Pompey QPR again…beaten by the direct, physical approach where little to no skill or finesse is required. All you need to do with Trump is follow the money…. Just wait until you see how much Vladdie the Baddie invests in Trump Coin once he gets what he wants from Ukraine. $20BN is the latest number doing the rounds. As for Starmer, the guy’s well out of his depth and will get stitched right up before long. |

Isn’t that the same gap that Leicester exploited with the change of prem and championship status ? Neither in one or the other when it suited them and therefore avoided the serious point deduction and fines. Smart legal advice and poor football admin. No doubt City will find something similar to exploit amongst the 100+ |

Yes, thanks Sam ! Maybe we should pin this somewhere in anticipation of the next discussion relating to new owners. |

I would also take copies of your car insurance and proof of ownership wit you. The Rozzers will almost certainly ask to see something that shows you own the vehicle if you get stopped. You'll also get breathalysed and if there's any for of speeding fine, expect to be escorted to the ATM to extract the cash before they allow you to drive on. I suspect that they spent mine on lunch given that I was stopped around 11:30am and let go shortly before 12noon. |

I also have what used to be called the Coyote App for RADAR = cameras. There are plenty of signs for fixed cameras but not for mobile and when you get tired, you don’t always remember to adjust after the signs so having a reminder like snooze on your alarm can be useful. The free version has a few ads to navigate but it’s a good safety blanket when activated and just running in the background. Think it’s called RadarBot these days. Has a sideline in identifying players unsuited to the championship regardless of their data. Agree completely about fuel prices - never fill up on the autoroute if you have a choice. Supermarket fuel is usually the best value and it gives you an opportunity to get a better bite to eat if you find a decent relais routier or similar. As with skiing, we always drive/ski through the 12-2pm period when most French people stop for what feels like a mandatory 3 course meal with wine (if it’s hot). |

Autoroutes are usually pretty relaxing, smooth and traffic free it’s out of rush hours and holidays. The Peage stations can require some patience if you pay cash and petrol/diesel requires a credit card for prepay in most locations but the instructions can be selected in English. On the smaller roads, watch out for the slowest driver in France in front of you and the fastest behind you, usually in a Renault - insert Made up Name. When I say behind you, I mean actually in the boot/hatch. Same in Italy but it’s a Fiat-Alfa sandwich. [Post edited 25 Feb 20:19]

Somebody posted on the patterns of play that were developing at the time we played the three together regularly. I can’t remember who it was but it was a really good explanation of how we used Dunne, Morgan and Smyth with Frey to link the right hand side up with distribution from Nardi. That has now gone from our game plan seemingly. No idea why but it’s fairly evident and I would imagine you can directly correlate our better period of results with playing the three in question. Now we have an enviable situation with Colback rotating around rests/injuries/specific game selection but are picking only two. If anyone can link results and points to the selection easily, I would imagine this will prove or disprove the theory very quickly. |

I think it’s the duration you stay in Saudi that determines the tax (or lack of it). Minimum stay of two years to pay zero, so maybe he was paid to the end of a contract and is still being paid on ‘dessert’ leave. That would mean he couldn’t take another job rather than not taking one in the UK. Henderson was just stupid and had no benefit from leaving so soon. Quite the opposite I suspect. |
