indeed - one of the more unpleasant ones from the time. Of course, my comment above should say away fans were banned after the famous Millwall riot but the FA insisted on I think 25% allocation for away fans in the cup. Not sure, but I think that Millwall riot was responsible for the introduction of football identity cards. Anyone remember them? No id card, no admission! |

Strong agree - I'm a Dad and daughterer (but not one of the five mentioned here). That and the Marti Cifuentes song - the last line of that needs to be changed mostly because it's just awful! Anyway, back to the theme here - I think a lot of it was due to crowd trouble. Pretty much every game in the 80's had some kind of incident. Probably the worst I can remember was Luton away in a cup replay (maybe 88). Home fans were baned for league games at Luton after the Millwall riot but FA Cup rules meant they had to allow away fans. There was a police escort from the station before the game. There was not one for the return journey. Me and my mates spent an hour being chased all around Luton trying to stay alive. On the train back to Euston I think we were the only ones not sporting head wounds. |

yep, very, very happy. It's quite something to be excited about the next game. I'm always blindly optimistic but excited? Not often. It's remarkable what's happened over the last couple of months. Long may it continue. Thanks for the great report, as always |

This one has been done to death it seems. And you are right, many if not most clubs to seem to toss off the cups these days. But as a fan of a generally mid level championship club I just don't get why we don't go for it. I don't buy the argument that players can't play twice a week. Perhaps sports science has changed and there is strong evidence that the modern player can't sustain 2 games a week but for young men in peak shape I just don't see it. I aslo don't buy the fact that it's a distraction from the league. Surely success breeds success. Play the best team available for every single game (accepting that will change fo rinjuries and tactical reasons) and try to win every game. What's wrong with that ? |

I spent a few days in Zurich with my son last summer and didn't see anywhere accepting Euros. So Swiss Francs is the way forward. That said, you don't really need to use cash anywhere these days - assuming you have a bank account with a debit card |

it was certainly frustrating, and I lost my sense of humour after arriving at Exeter 3 hours later than scheduled and then had to wait there for over an hour for a new tain crew to arrive. I also share all the sentiments about the crapiness of the infrastructure in the UK etc. but on this occasion it was due to a fatality on the line blocking all rail travel on that particular part of the network. There's not a hell of a lot GWR can do about that to be fair, and the train staff did their utmost to make it as bearable as they could. Anyway, great report and great away day - I had plans big for Saturday evening which obviously got kicked into touch, but the result and the performance made it all worthwhile. I went down the night before but for the many who did there and back on the day - what an effort. Great support and great atmosphere. |
| Forum Reply | If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs at 16:36 19 Jan 2025
I don't think it does mean that. I suspect it means you don't want to see us get humped every week in the Premier League like last time we were up. It's more fun winning games than not. But herein lies the conundrum - to your point, we want to win games. But winning inn the champ could mean promotion to the prem - and then losing loads of games. And round we go. FWIW, I'd take it in a heartbeat - via the play offs would be amazing, and as others have said, as long as we didn't sack Marti cos we lose a load of games, then I'd be up for it |

Rangers have won 20 points since the start of December - the most of any team in the championship. For me, although Plymouth looked pony, we are playing some good stuff and the confidence in the team is obvious to anyone watching. I thought everyone played well yesterday, but a special shout out to Morgan Fox who has received some justified stick in the past - but I thought he had a evry good game. And that cross field pass to Smyth, which enabled him to go on that fantastic run (which Frey should have scored from ) where did that come from? Lovely stuff |

shouldn't that be fewer? I have had pedantry drilled into me by my wife's family. It's not my fault! |

I don't get wound up by this stuff, and of course you're right, I don't have to engage (and I generally don't). But I find it interesting that a lot of the discourse I see on this site often has you somewhere in amongst it. That may be coincidence or may not be. May be deliberate, may not be. None of it's really important though and I'm sure we won't be losing any sleep over this. Have a good evening |

I don't post much on here, but do read avidly. I don't know the OP or anything about him/her other than what they post. I don't know if its intentional or not, but it does seem that a lot of their posts and replies are positioned as bait. Seems a bit unnecessary to me but each to their own I guess. For me, personally, I find it quite tedious. |

I was wondering about that - was it definitely due to the rugby? If so, that's ridiculous as that didn't even kick off until 8pm. I assumed it was just due to general nonsense of the FA Cup scheduling as it is nowadays. On the plus side, we got home an hour earlier :) |

Most been mentioned already but 4-2 v Chelsea in 89 - that Falco volley was brilliant. 4-1 v Tottenham in 92. And both the Arsenal cup games in 90; the 0-0 away wasn’t a great game but I remember how well Paul Parker played and couldn’t believe how high he could jump for someone not particularly tall. The replay of course, Kenny’s piledriver in the pouring rain. Lovely stuff. I remember the 3-2 defeat away at Millwall in 88 as well for very different reasons |
