Back in car 17:02 - Aug 10 with 3105 views | ColDale | Non event this afternoon. Game ruined after 5 mins. Replays will Show whether it was the ref or cav's fault but it looked harsh. There were no worries about it being a red as the ref approached Cav to speak to him. Burton looked a shadow of the side they were last year and the goal may well have been their only effort on goal. Subs didn't help us. We looked equal To them even with 10 men in first half. 2nd half we couldn't really put any pressure on them.

Not going to spend forever dissecting it now, but Donnelly can't play that role. The improvements in his game are let down by an inability to appreciate a situation before it happens. Edit: and after recent comments about his displays (fair comments, mind), I thought Rafferty had a good game. [Post edited 10 Aug 2013 17:13]

Back in car on 17:51 - Aug 10 with 2841 views | SaxonDale | Referee was awful. Rubbish decision for Cav and somehow only decided to add 2 minutes on at the end. Done struggled to get into the game. Lillis was caught in two minds on whether to come out or stay in for their goal, beaten as he was in no mans land. Holness played well and I agree that Burton were poor. Positives were we looked better defensively than we did against them last year (which was one of the last Dale games I managed to get to.) Also had the same red card happened last year we probably would have ended with 7 men, thought that the team managed to keep discipline well in the main, despite a frustrating refereeing performance.
Back in car on 18:36 - Aug 10 with 2705 views | Shun | Just got back. If you're a fan of one man taking the bull by the horns and completely bossing the match then you'd have enjoyed today, because Burton's number 12 ran the show today. Nope, wait, that was the ref. I hate moaning about referees because it naturally comes across as sour grapes, but he was just diabolical. Like others have said, the game was ruined after 5 minutes (it looked a very poor decision to me). What should've been a good game between two good sides was turned into a farce of sighs and groans. As for the match, and what little there is to comment on it, I'd agree with others that Burton look a much different side to when we played them last year. Then they were one of the best sides I saw all season. Today they looked very poor and in the first half especially we outplayed them without having any real efforts. My MOM was probably Rafferty. It's interesting to note a difference between an Eyre/Coleman side with ten men to a Hill side with ten men. The latter remain the best footballing side on the pitch even after the sending off. Back in car on 18:38 - Aug 10 with 2693 views | leicesterdale | The proverbial 'just got back' post. The sending off obviously completely changed the game. Cav had been warned minutes earlier for a high challenge which resulted in their player going off the pitch for treatment, and then he got caught in another challenge with another high boot. I thought it may result in a yellow, but was very surprised indeed to see a red shown. Seemed very harsh. We then seemed to play well, defending and holding the ball really well, but then really let in a very soft goal just before the break, really stupid considering how well we competed with a player down. Much the same in the second half, showing plenty of spirit but in truth we didn't have a shot on target that I recall and never appeared likely to haul back the deficit. Positives: defence looks overall stronger than last season. I thought that Rafferty had a very solid game, particularly considering concerns mentioned previously on this board. Hopefully he can continue to improve. I also thought that Vincenti had a good game, the team using height well. Negatives: a difficult game to judge from, but we needed tall target man and whilst Donnely has much to offer, it doesn't look to me that he can fill that role. Really soft 3 points to loose, but we have to put it behind us and hammer them later in the year at Spotland

Back in car on 19:11 - Aug 10 with 2539 views | Ralphs12 | Echo what everyone has said. Think we've got a real gem of a player in Lund. Has the look of a player who could go on to play at a higher level, hope he builds on his early performances.
Back in car on 19:12 - Aug 10 with 2534 views | AtThePeake | Agreed with the majority of points that have been made so far. One viewing isn't enough to say whether it was a red card or not, but got to say that it certainly didn't look like one in real time. Reminded me of Nani's sending off against Real Madrid last season, except lower down. Not sure Cav had any idea that Weir was there but all will become clear on the FLS later I'm sure. Donnelly is struggling up there - hopefully Hill will see this and give him someone to play off. Many of our attack-minded players are similar and whilst this breeds familiarity and they're all good players, we lack a few different options. Don't think Bunney is the answer, not yet at least. He desperately needs to bulk up before he's going to be ready for regular Football League action. Having said that, it may just be that he lacked support with the 10 men. Game was a write off from the sending off and it's a real shame that IF it wasn't a sending off, we've lost out on a potential 3 points, and we'll never get an apology or an explanation from their referee. Lund looks a great signing by the way. People say he's a ready made replacement for Kennedy but I actually think he has the potential to be a fair bit better.

'Todays Goals Now' - it's like the FLS but unfortunately no Mr Claridge and his biro EDIT - didn't show card. Looked like Lanashire slid in and popped it past Lillis [Post edited 10 Aug 2013 20:56]

Back in car on 20:52 - Aug 10 with 2174 views | sandylaner1 | missed the sending off, just overheard the stewards taking about how the ref was giving them everything and upon leaving the ground a Burton fan said it was the worst sending off decision he's ever seen. the ref really had a shocker today we did as well as we could have expected with 10 men lillis - didn't really have much to do. caught in 2 minds with the goal but it was good link up play by kee and howe rafferty - much improved, found the energy in the second half to support our attacks eastham / lancashire - although they still can be sloppy in distribution at times they both had very good games taking into account the amount of pressure they were under. they wont face many better strike partnerships then kee/howe this season rose - poor corners but did okay and knocked a few decent balls up second half lund - MOM we have got a player with the potential to be much better than JK, hes only 21 but he was everywhere at times today. looked to be the only one in the second half willing to give it a go and make runs forward tutte - did okay, few nice runs through the middle but in the final third can slow it down vincenti - had a good game, always offers us an outlet and put in a shift which with a man less cannot be understated done - few neat runs but doesn't look quite up to pace yet, soon donnelly - ran around and as always was a pest for their defenders, created a few nice openings for himself. one when we did a great turn past a defender and was about 20 yards out central but didn't shoot :( and then lost the ball. frustrating bunney against holness was quite comical to watch he just did not stand a chance. yes he shows promise but he needs to hit the weights
