Strikers - Their Promise faded away 18:52 - Mar 5 with 6252 viewsGloucs_R

Name a striker who had lots of potential but never actually made it....

Jermaine Beckford - banged in the goals for Leeds, went to Everton and scored 1 in 4 but didnt make the grade and is now at Huddesfield

Totally agree on Rooney, nowhere near the player he looked capable of becoming.

Kevin Campbell springs to mind. Scored ridiculous amounts of goals in Arsenal's youth team but was never prolific at senior level.

Gallen also. Even before the injury he had become more of a 10-15 goal a season player than the free scoring goal machine of his younger years.

You are a hard man to please, his stats look pretty good to me. He also helped to make Danny Welbeck a very good player for club and country.

agree with alot of them. Robbie Fowler should not be on the list though. He was an absolute class striker.

...but faded after his 25th Birthday, never made the breakthrough at international level (scored against the likes of Albania in qualifying, but nothing in tournaments), never really won anything. Even in Liverpool's 5-trophy year (Charity Shield, League Cup, Super Cup, etc) he was second choice to Owen and he flounced off to Leeds. He was only 26. He obviously thought breaking into the Liverpool team and knobbing Spice Girls was the pinnacle of his career, and to be fair, he was sensationally successful for a while, but how well known is he outside this country and the global Liverpool *family"?
