So if Rangers really are bringing in Remy, M’Vila and Livermore there’s three or four players who are in or around the first team at the moment that are gonna need shifting.
Either Cisse or Campbell (or both) will be sold or loaned to make way for Remy if he signs. Bothroyd might just have got himself a place based on his efforts last night, but Taarabt and Mackie both cover the lone striker’s role so he could yet miss out.
Should M’Vila and/or Livermore come in (really don’t see why we need one, let alone both, but there ya go) Diakite’s place looks most under threat among the midfielders. Would certainly rather we ship him and/or Granero - who we should at least get reasonably decent transfer fees for - than Ale.
We absolutely cannot afford to have any less than seven defenders in the 25, especially with Nelsen going. Ideally we’d have eight, with the last place taken by Luke Young if no defenders are brought in.

I think we only need 4 strikers, so if we have one or more coming in, then the corresponding number should go out whether they are sold or loaned. Johnson is out for some time more and I don't see him back in time. I would ship out Hulse & Bothroyd now; just sell them on or give them away. I would keep DJ & Bobby Z as they have much to offer. I would class Mackie & Taarabt as attacking midfield, so if you bring in Remy, you could still have Cisse around.
The likes of Hogan, Cerny, Bosingwa & Hulse are done & must be moved on. I would even be tempted to loan out Ferdinand, if someone would take him.
I hope Harry can find the right balance within the squad, and having had enough time to see all the players, I reckon he will get it more right than Hughes ever did. But this could mean fans favourites like Derry & Faurlin amongst others, might not feature as much as they have. We have all seen huge forward steps in the defensive improvements since Harry & Co have come in, and I hope they can extend that to all areas in the team. | |
