I’m amazed anyone can see anything positive about this fella, he’s up there with the worst defenders I’ve ever seen play for us (and he’s in good company there)
Let’s have it right; we all know Sir James of the Dunne clan has now 1,000% reinvented himself as our marauding right back; so anyone else is cover. I’d take Santos as that man if only because we own him and, as bad as some things are he’s done, he’s done okay in patches.
Two brilliant subs followed up by two woeful ones last 15 mins.
I hope Marti did hook Ashby but if he did then I’m more mystified why he didn’t at HT v Leicester in the cup?????
If Ashby has an Agent looking after him then I hope he’s been advising him to invest in property these last couple of years since he stole that Geordie contract |
What we have seen since Marti came in, are players improving over ime.
Look at Frey and Varanne for examples, or even the most improved / new position ie Dunne.
Is he there now? no. Could he be? Maybe. If Marti sees something in him, that's enough for me. I'm not writing him off yet. | |

The issue with Dunne was the potential need to play him as CB. If Fox and Edwards can cover those positions with cameos from JCS, then I make you right.
We've seen other players written off start to make an impact (Fox is one of them) but if we're hoping to do that with a player it's better for it to be Santos, who is ours, than Ashby who isn't. | | | |

He was hooked for sure. Came on, attempted 12 passes, gave six of those away, one led to the Hull goal. Shocking, and not for the first time.
Not sure we need to really focus on that for now though. That was by and large a good performance and deserved win on a dreadful pitch in a three game week when we're 6/6 on the end of two of our longest away trips. |  | | |

We got away with it which is the main thing and bringing him and Madsen on felt like a move you make with the game won which it was certainly not. Madsen debate has been done to death but Ashby, for some ability, just lacks it between the ears for adult football it seems. Santos must be woeful to not be trusted from the bench with the players out. | | | |

I understood those substitutions. We were well in control at that point with a 2-goal cushion. I thought this was a great chance for Madsen & Ashby to redeem themselves and be lifted by everyone else playing well around them. I.e. perhaps Marty saw this as an opportunity to kickstart those two. Ashby especially we might need as with JCS out again, there is no backup in the back four. I personally would not want to see Field drop back again out of need.
Madsen is the one I am most disappointed with. Really want him to do well, but he just looks like his heart is not into it. |  | | |

Didn't see the game, but from reading LFW I hope he got hooked. Good management, need to be ruthless and also sets a standard for the other 10 outfield players. Plus Ashby needs to give his head a wobble as he makes too many stupid errors. |  |

I think Marti likes to give players opportunities to play themselves into form and out of bad form .
I agree that I think MC saw this as a chance for the pair of them to keep the ball , gain some confidence etc. but just before Ashby was taken off I was thinking to myself this is now doing even more damage to him so it wasn’t a total shock he was removed .
He’s in a tough spot now Ashby . I think he believes he is a premier league player but it’s dawning on him he probably isn’t and that’s must be damaging to his confidence.
In the mid term he probably needs to do what Laird has done (albeit not by choice) and drop down a level just to go out and play the way he wants to . |  | | |

I said after his performance at Leicester that I can not believe that Hevertton is any worse than Ashby and todays comments just seem to reinforce my opinion. |

Clearly not good enough and we have Hevertton we could be developing (who I dont think is good enough either but at least he's ours)
I would send him back, is possible. Certainly wouldn't even consider signing him on a free in the summer. |  |

I think this is a good attitude and would normally support it. However, I would happily never see him in a Rangers shirt again. It is ok to try your best be humble and be a bit shit. But, I simply cannot forgive ridiculous decision making and he was gone for me when he tried a trick to take in a Leicester player as practically the last man. As to the question, obviously a tactical change and the right one to make - Hull were not causing trouble down the sides, everything was coming through the middle, exploiting the chasms of space left by the Leaning Tower of Madsen. Getting Colback on for the final 5 to swing a leg at anything that moved was a smart move. | | | |

Madsen worked pretty hard as far as I could see, kept the structure of the team in midfield as MC had set out at the beginning of the game, cleared a dangerous attack on the edge of the box, got forward.....wtf more do you want him to do when he comes on as sub. Compare that with Ashby and there is no comparison.

It was generally poor defending but, whilst not 100% sure, I think he gave the ball away originally through pretty poor play.
I do not know if he was hooked or injured but what I can say, he was pretty poor with his distribution when he came on. | | | |
