Some of our fans are an absolute embarrassment to the City on 13:34 - Jan 10 with 2257 views | SaintNick | In fairness to them, they are two of the most loyal supporters the club have and follow the team to every game home and away, I don't know them that well, but I see them at all the games. I might not particularly agree with the sentiments in their poem, but they cannot be knocked for their dedication to Southampton FC over a very long period of time. As I always say I appreciate that everyone is entitled to support the club in whatever way they want to and they are no different to anyone else in that respect. We seem to live in a world now where its a sin to express support for the club, as i say I might not agree with their viewpoint, but i would rather 30,000 people like them in the ground than 30,000 empty seats

I’d rather have 30,000 empty seats. You’d get more sense out of empty seats.

100% correct in what you say Nick. I’ve met the ladies ( we share the same car park ) and two kinder more enthusiastic Saints people you couldn’t wish to meet. I remember being particularly impressed with their dedication when told that they had to be on the coach at some ungodly hour for a 12.00:KO at Leeds last season. Like others I don’t necessarily agree with the content of their poetry but can say that football in general and Southampton Football Club in particular would be a worse place without their sort. There is a lot to be said in favour of maintaining thought independent of the mainstream, long may they continue. [Post edited 10 Jan 16:15]

They've set themselves up for ridicule, but fair play to them and as you say, each to their own. Clearly loyal supporters but think I'd have put a "name and address witheld" at the end!

We should all pray for Russell Martin and his beloved trolls, I mean fans. Wonder what Rusty's doing now? ( I know a few fans have got some rather crude ideas). I had hoped he might get the West Ham or Everton jobs - surely they'd consider such a lovely capable manager.

Enjoying his £75k a week from Southampton FC for the next 2.5 years I’d imagine.

Some of our fans are an absolute embarrassment to the City on 19:55 - Jan 10 with 1539 views | Flamingbankers | Yes, when you're working for less than minimum wage (arranged by the middle-class union leaders to make it legal; under-employed; or unemployed) managers of dubious ability do make football seem a rather overrated profession. Not that most low wage workers, or the workless, can in reality afford to watch the idiotic wasters anyway. Amazing how some of the thickest people obtain enough money to waste it so exuberantly and lavishly. Write a poem about that.

Every club has a fanbase that has people from all walks of life, every Millwall supporter isn't a violent psychopath, every Manchester United fan doesn't live in Slough, every club has a broad cross section of supporters of all types, we all want the same thing and that is a successful club.

Yes but you know as well as I do that some clubs have a particular culture around them which other clubs don’t e.g. millwall (thet don’t put up with any sh*t), Leeds (bordering on fanatical), Crystal Palace (ultras), etc etc. Southampton …. Mmmmm! Not so much.

Nick is right. You'll find supporters exactly like them at all clubs, including Millwall, Leeds and Crystal Palace. There isn't one particular type of fan at any club, but how fans act depends a lot on results on the pitch. Our fans are no better or no worse. There isn't some special type of human being who lives only in Southampton. In fact, it's a very average city. What you'll find on the social media and messageboards for all clubs when they lose is one type of fan who moans and another type who moans about the ones who are moaning, but when their team keeps on losing, a third type of fan seems to emerge, who moans about the ones who aren't moaning. I guess because we are losing much more than other teams, we may have a few more of that type. [Post edited 12 Jan 15:28]

Last season brought many happy and cherished memories both home and away . It certainly did for me and some of the away games with my lad won't be forgotten. I suspect these two ladies were not only happy with the wins but the fact Russ used to come over and chat to the fans behind the goal about an hour before kick off at away games and this meant alot to not only them but many other less cynical souls you find on forums.
