The folly of selecting Grimes 14:50 - Dec 21 with 5299 views | onehunglow | All a team has to do is simply ensure he is pressurised . Opponents know that everything goes through him, that he is one footed, that he is slow, that he is poor tackled and his shooting is normally absent . They know he doesn’t inspire a side nor lead nor chivvy up players like MPH,appallingly playing a whole game today . They know that should they press him ,he will gift them. He did it persistently today and most co@ he’s would have hooked him He’s costing us dearly but not as much as the “ coach” Fair to say ,it’s not a good start to Christmas Don’t kick any puppies though

On his day he's technically a very good player , sees the pass before the ball comes to him , he very rarely gets caught on the ball and his passing accuracy his extremely high , all of which have been absent recently.

Morning That took some time It’s a key question He has ability but he looks shattered mentally and physically yet he has to play every minute of every game . This is not actually fair on him . It certainly is not on the team We have a coach that demands all goes through him,no matter what,no matter where . Clear evidence this ain’t working ,YET ,Grims is lauded ,although looking around, many folk see him as I do,as I always have done . When a player is beyond criticism ,we are in doo doo. Criticising him is like kitten drowning ( just a little hyperbole for effect mods) We have a weak squad but one that is better than what we are seeing

The folly of selecting Grimes on 09:32 - Dec 22 with 1620 views | JACKMANANDBOY | Grimes is a good enough Championship player, he's being asked to play very deep, we look like we have a back five which doesn't work as there is to much pressure on Cabango and Darling to play out, this is not their strength.

I think he comes too deep at times. But it’s either Grimes bringing us from defence to midfield, or we have to drop both our fullbacks further back. Having him in the middle allows the centre backs to split and the fullbacks to go forward. If he wasn’t doing it, we’d have more chance of playing through the midfield, but would lose width on both sides.

Morning to you, hence my question as to why ? And why is he asked to play like this Why ,if it doesn’t suit him, does he not stand up to the coach . I think he’s a decent enough player, though one overated and never a captain, but he has skill and can pass. It’s when he tries to overdo or do too much that he gets exposed. And clubs are doing just that l Stop him and you stop us Utter folly

The folly of selecting Grimes on 09:50 - Dec 22 with 1560 views | lifelong | As poor as Grimes was yesterday, did he lose us the game? No, in my opinion, our goalkeeper did. His distribution was dreadful and that goal kick straight to one of their players was very poor to say the least.

Yes he did lose us the game As soon as he stepped onto the field captaining that team. None were up for the fight None showed up Why was Fulton selected Why is Branco treated so appallingly Why does Key lose the ball constantly Why can’t Tymon do more that just stand on his right foot These are key questions And why is Vigaroux going backwards

Does Grimes select the team? Is he responsible for the goalkeeper kicking the ball directly to an opposition player 30 yards out? How can you lay the blame on Grimes if Key cannot control the ball and Tymon cannot stand on his left foot?

He ,being club captain, might well have a hand in that He is long term,he knows the players ,the club. If he isn’t playing a part on the selection process then it’s worse . Club Captains represent the players . Ours are not happy . Clearly . Williams should be under no illusion. Although overated ,ImO,he is a good enough player at this level and should be far more effective on a regular basis and playing centre half doesn’t help him.. Finally, have a look the opinions of others . I ain’t alone baby

The width is there with the wingers, by having the fullbacks giving width deeper means the midfield is available as is the flanks for quick balls to the deep full back from the keeper or switch of play, less chance of being picked off both wide and trying to play down the middle, even more helpful the quick balls to the wingers to pull defenses about either to feet or beyond the winger allowing them to come onto the ball instead of trying to turn when closely marked by the defenders, slow, pedestrian ,predictable yesterday.

Football is a team game and that team doesn’t just include the players on the pitch. The old saying ‘we win together, we lose together’ is true. Now, the reason for having a captain amongst other things is to motivate the team and ensure they play to their full capacity in every game. Sure, this is not possible every game, they are human after all but the captain should be using whatever technique needed to try and motivate them. That may be a mix of good cop, bad cop but he should know which one. Unfortunately, I see absolutely NOTHING fro Grimes week in week out that tells me he is captaincy material. I was ‘fortunate’ to go to the Sunderland game last week and after the first two goal and on each occasion the Sunderland captain was seen rallying his troops in a way that said ‘don’t let your heads drop, we can get back into this’. And they did. Grimes failed to do this in the three occasions he had the opportunity to do so! Also part of the team is the manager. On the MDT yesterday I questioned what pep talk he was going to give his troops and how that would manifest itself in the second half. bsolutely no difference at all which begs the questions: 1. Is he giving a good enough pep talk or capable if doing so? 2. Has he lost the dressing room! I’m starting to believe the latter may be the case. TLDR: are Grimes and Williams up to it?

To suggest a captain has no part in the preparation ,motivation and match day performance of his team mates is madness

And he's been an ever present player who is supposed to be our foundation, our hub, our captain so are you surprised? When we don't score we blame the attack, when we concede we blame the defence...
The folly of selecting Grimes on 13:46 - Dec 22 with 1239 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Potter who was a good coach moved Grimes to right back and put Byers in his midfield place next to Fer who was the boss man. I do not ever recall Fulton featuring much under Potter who's team was fluid and slick. Fulton was too slow I suspect.. Fer left Grimes was put in the engine room and everything seemed to become less exciting. to watch culmination in Duff have the most dull team to watch in 20 years. [Post edited 22 Dec 13:48]

The problem LW has here even if he wants to is dropping Grimes can only have a negative consequence given our squad depth. If the captaincy is stripped from him, would he put 110% into every game thereafter. I don’t want to doubt his professionalism BUT he’s human after all. Similarly dropping him from the starting line up altogether. His impact as a sub wouldn’t be effective I’d wager. So LW has his hands tied because he’s either playing as captain or not at all. And he’s too good a player not to have in a match day squad.

Grimes isn't a captain, he'd do better without the pressure in my opinion. I'd make Darling or Vigoroux captain. Grimes has been described as a great pro, if he is then taking the captaincy for the teams good should be ok with him. We don't have to drop Grimes either, he could play higher up the pitch. He'd still keep possession but wouldn't have the opportunity for such negative passes that put is in trouble yesterday. Given the level of performances and our thin squad, LW really needs to poull a few players in from the U21 and give them a go. Those players on the bench that are never going to play, ditch them. Tell them they can find a new club come January and try some of the kids, can it get worse than it already is? That striker with the U21's, hasn't he been much touted on here? Can he do worse than not score? This is where I need Jasper so he can give us a reliable update on the U21's.

Darling could be captain. He has been a little bit of a drama queen but seems to have stopped that now . He’s the one we really should keep It may be our full backs are so bad that Grimes thinks he’s helping them out . The centre two are ok ,but we are so vulnerable from crosses as Key and Tymon just cannot tackle properly. Both could be improved though .By coaching. Sadly,we do not have a coach . Vig has clearly gone backwards . His hand, ing is less assured and his dominance is less . His distribution has nosedived Why? He’s a good goalkeeper but like many of our players is being dragged down by Williams who is getting the sympathy vote
