Last night’s ref 08:18 - Dec 12 with 3354 viewswortonr

Oh dear. Has had limited experience at this level and it showed. Blatant inconsistency and inexplicable decisions. Luckily made no difference, but imagine him reffing Norwich. Felt a bit sorry for him.

Yeah not a great performance. Strangest one was when Madsen went over in the box and he gave a foul the other way. Would have been a soft pen, but what it definitely wasn't was a free kick to Oxford.

He also managed to be conned by our very own Tom Daley on almost every occasion. As proven by the first goal, you can do it Paul, on the odd occasion you stay on your feet.

The Smyth attacking technique...use your pace to get in front of defender, once in front of defender either slow down so defender runs into you or run across their legs in the hope they clip you. If that doesn't work fall down anyway. Good cross for the goal yesterday though.

Booked Lloyd for kicking the ball away, 2 mins later when an Oxford player did it, took no action - If anything, their player was more blatant. Just because we were 2-0 up should not influence giving out cards

I have to admit I lost my sh*t at that point purely because of his inconsistency. Very poor refereeing performance ....again

Where on earth did he get 9 mins from?

The only good thing I could say about the ref was he brought that first half to an abrupt end.

Well I didn't understand the Madsen thing in the penalty area either but that was the only negative thing I had about him in the notes.

I’m pretty sure they get a judge from strictly coming dancing and ask them to get a paddle board out with a number on it .
Craig revel Norwood last night . 9. 😬 WTF
Bit generous from Craig , I know.

9 seemed excessive to me, but there were 6 substitution windows, the Madsen injury & the Nardi injury. It had to be a minimum of 6.

Just felt like after we went two up, he started giving every decision to Oxford.

A 6 at best for me, but unlike some on here I don't obsess over your ratings

Agreed.

I thought the poor first half was a little down to him being a little whistle happy but apart from the Madsen mistake and the harsh yellow for Lloyd he didn't do too bad.

What was strange about this was giving a free kick to Oxford. Having a perfect view of the incident (for a change), it should have been a goal kick as neither player did anything wrong.

There was another handball in the corner near the end. Their player “did a Smyth” and fell down under no contact from Morgan and grabbed the ball on the presumption of a foul. The ref saw through it, gave a handball, but didn’t book him. Presumably thought they had suffered enough by then.

Still, they have to learn and that includes putting them in the middle to make some educational mistakes. As it happens, I had an operation yesterday under local anaesthetic. I was lying on the table listening to a senior surgeon telling his junior where she was going wrong slicing into my eyeball and stitching up the incision. “No, slice smoothly, don’t squeeze the eyeball, the tissue will bunch up. What are you doing now? The needle should be horizontal, not vertical!” It was all I could do not to shout, “Why aren’t you doing it then, know-all?” Still, fingers crossed…

The lack of coaching of Smyth, or, worse, his uncoachability, is becoming embarassing for Marti as much as the player imo. He's not improving, and he's not being improved. Last night apart for the goal, much as I like his vim, I'm running out of patience with him.

Offside? Only reasonable explanation, but TV didn't show the lino.

The work Smyth and Saito did defending was phenomenal yesterday. Willingness to sprint back exceptional. Yes Smyth is limited and frustrating, but I think he's contributing well to this run.

I thought that were a few strange decisions but overall he didn’t do anything that changed the outcome or negatively impacted the game. So from that perspective I thought he was ok.
He didn’t make us useless in the first half nor stop our improvement in the second half.

One small point which I appreciate is not ultimately for the ref, Nardi was quite clearly out cold for a couple of seconds, the ref was first on the scene and so clearly knew he was out cold, yet the physio is allowed to come on, say the player who 30 seconds ago didn’t know which continent he is on was fine and he’s allowed to continue…
