Regarding Derby and FFP, are the rules different in league one to the championship as Birmingham seem to be spending a fortune in the league below us.

There are some rulings but it isn’t a free hit.

In relation to earnings and turnover.

Here we go.

Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP) is the Financial Fair Play rules for all League One and League Two Clubs.

The SCMP requirement is whereby a Club’s Player-Related Expenditure shall not exceed the sum of 60% or 50% of the Club’s Relevant Turnover for League One and League Two Clubs respectively.

The Reporting Period in respect of which a Club is assessed for the purpose of the SCMP Requirement is the 12 month period recorded in the Club’s Annual Accounts.

Seems when a championship club is relegated to league one they get additional help in their returns to the EFL for the first season. Although that doesn’t really explain Birmingham’s spending as it is massive. Has to be something to do with investment by a new owner into debt etc.

Thanks for that. I can vaguely remember when we were discussing our accounts in the summer it was mentioned financially you were better of getting relegated and coming back up as it favoured you with FFP. TBH I couldn't see how.
