Rugby World Cup 2023 - Thread 19:18 - Sep 8 with 40812 viewsToast_R

Been looking forward to this and I think this year will be a cracker. Ireland, France, Bokke and All Black stand out favourites, I've a suspicion Scotland may throw it open on that side of the draw by getting something out of Ireland or RSA.

Tonight though, what a cracker open with; Hosts France take on The All Blacks. I'm going for the All Blacks to silence the Parisienne crowd. Or they could get pumped. 🤔

I'm not sure who I want to win the final, I do have mixed feelings about the Boks, they are a tough team to beat and have some great characters in Faf and Mbonambi. They will run the All Blacks all the way and its going to be an epic final. Never seen the South Africans so rattled though.

England paid for Farrell’s lack of discipline when we got marched back 10 putting the posts within kicking distance. We also seemed to have no plan once we’d got 9pts ahead.

However, no one saw that performance coming from England, made a very good SA side look average for most of the game and can go out with heads held high.

I've been Farrell's biggest critic but thought he was immense today. Yes the incident you cite was stupid but not a game-changer that early on as you suggest.

In the last quarter, their forwards were stronger than ours, that's all.

A couple of quick things there Ted. SA Bomb squad turned this game on its head for sure but that Ref was terrible 2 weeks in a row.
France were denied by him without doubt and he gets another game 7 days later and SA get some critical calls . I call B.S.
Watching that England player (Currie ? ) nose bleeding and barely walking tells the story of how England battled to get that win all for nothing.
Last point , you cannot win without tries and England shot themselves in the foot not getting them and taking it away from any officials .

The winning scrum penalty was a huge call and completely 50/50. Should have been reset. And then after that just inside their half he twice let them off with firstly finding themselves the wrong side of the ruck and not rolling away and being off their feet another.. Very generous reffing to SA.

I thought their substitutions put the game In their favour, Farrell was in the ref's face a wee bit too much In the first half, I just felt uneasy as the clock was ticking down. we needed so badly to get and stay In their half, some of our kicking was a bit awry too.
Both Captains were moaning at the Ref, you could hear Farrell saying to the ref In the first half I just want to talk to you, this was after the ref called both Captains together.

This is why I don't watch rugby any more, too much influence from refs. When I saw the score I just knew they would get a penalty after the try. Heard they got a few favours against France too.

Hope NZ win the final. They'll be fresher than SA for sure.

Pommy fullback who had a great game cocked up by bombing on halfway instead of kicking long with 5 minutes left.
Deserved the win, but meek in attack came back to kick their rse.
Allblacks next week.

SA forwards won it for them. 4 scrum penalties in last 10 minutes was too many.. Add in that England never looked like scoring a try.

I fancy NZ to win it. They will look at how Englabd played, repeat the dose, but have more attacking quality.

Come on ABs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cant believe a Foster team has made the final.

Going to be intruiging I am hoping Jordan gets a few tries.

If Abs can get ahead I think they will do it, but Wayne Barnes makes me very nervous.

Anyone watching the Bronze final? That's Third place in football terms.
Be nice to finish on a high given the performance England put in against the Boks, painful as it may be because they should be in that final tomorrow.

Yeah, chance for some farewells to mainstays but focus has to be on the momentum from this tournament going into the 6 Nations. Hopefully Smith has a good game

My wife took the kids to the new Paw Patrol movie the other day at Odeon in Kingston. In the foyet some bloke was joking and chatting to her and the kids telling them he's off to see The killing moon flower, turned out it was Nasty Nick Cotton, (John Altman). Contrary to his character, a lovely bloke my wife reckons. She got the obligatory selfie with him.

Just watched the interview with the Argentina head coach and he was fuming about the ref butthat call appears to be ok though
Overall the standard or officiating has been very poor according to most pundits I have watched.
Shame after all that work and prep for 4 years gets ruined by rubbish officials

Michael Cheika. When he was coach of Australia he was always moaning about refs and also spent the lead up to each game trying to influence how it would be refereed.

If I funded that film, and Scorsese came to me with a plan for the ending like that, I'd give him two options: he could sleep with the fishes or, never work in this town again!

Not only was it crap, it was self-indulgent crap at that!
