Lockdown positive or negative for you ? 22:50 - Apr 20 with 4078 viewsSirjohnalot

How did the original lockdown affect you and your everyday life ?
Did you start a new hobby you kept up ? Continue working either out or home ? Get furloughed ? Sort the house out ? Spend time outside in the lovely Spring ? Sort the house out ? Or was it a nightmare, affect your job, or finances, home school the kids etc ?

Mixed bag for me, worked long hrs throughout, work was very stressful, social distancing, sanitising , face masks etc etc. All the family have had covid other than me, (that I know of anyway). Lost a few aquaintances, but no-one really close, so luckier than many.
My wife worked in day care for the schools for emergency workers and that was stressful, worrying about her, as young children can't be expected to fully understand social distancing.

The roads were lovely and quiet which was awesome and we took in another dog as "many tears" rescue centre were inundated, and she is an absolute diamond.

Does anyone else feel they can hardly believe it happened thinking back to that first proper lock down.

Hope your wife realises how much of a debt this country owes her ?

Thank you . i'm sure she appreciates all the good wishes from people like yourself. Not once did she complain, except for a lack of PPE at the beginning. She just got on with it and said it's my job.She did come home in tears once when it got too much.

This is why I am so disgusted with ppl who couldn't or wouldn't follow basic safety rules.Such selfishness and arrogance really got to me.

The only people who enjoyed lockdown was either social inadequates or the lazy malingering DVLA workers etc.

Others might think that people who post stuff like that are the real inadequates.

A lot of people, myself included enjoyed the lack of traffic noise and being able to hear the birdsong loud and clear. we enjoyed the clear blue skies and cleaner air, Finding positives in the lockdown doesn't make us socially inadequate, the one thing I truly missed was seeing my friends.

Yes it does. Our grandchildren and their grandchildren will be paying off the billions spend on furlough.

Children’s education took a massive hit. The collateral damage by people missing/postponed hospital appointments, will result in a lot of people dying, but never mind we could hear the birds singing

Oh you are being so obtuse here.

Nobody chose lockdown. None of us voters wanted it but we had to live through it. Part of the way people survive bad situations is to find the good in them.

People even managed to find some good from WW2.

Yes a lot of bad happened from it but again, none of us chose lockdown, we just learned to live through it.

Maybe if you weren't so self righteous and judgemental you could see that.

Says the person who called others mugs for following the rules.

Again, I didn't choose lockdown but I did as I was told in the belief it was for the greater good.

Whereas you did exactly as you pleased and called us all fools because you are a selfish, self centred idiot.

At the outset I volunteered and collected and delivered food and medicines to local people who had to shield. That was until I was told to shield myself. of course I worried about the kids, I am a dad, nothing is more important to me than my son.

You can't see past doing exactly as you please when you please though, following rules was for mugs and yet you accuse me. that's hysterical, really it is, and a tad pathetic.

Now I am going to follow Keiths wishes.

To have a better future we have to remember our past. If we don't learn from the mistakes we are doomed to repeat them.

Saying that, it seems we rarely learn!

True enough but the past is just that PASSED and it can kill the future.

The past is a big issue for me ,still and I still have dreams of people I knew 50 years ago. So,it's a no from me.

It's about the now,Cat.

There's a lot of truth in that but what was the realistic alternative for Joe public.

It came at a bad time, age wise, our situation, had a down side physically and mentally, at one stage my wife was ill, and trying to see a doctor or have some treatment for a month was a head bashing period .

hopefully weve turned the corner, but i have a feeling, those in charge may have different ideas further down the line

Advice those at risk to self isolate and everyone else get on with their lives.

That is very true and as I have already said, people found good things in the lockdown because its a coping mechanism. People managed to find some good in the Blitz because otherwise they'd have gone bonkers but obviously being mercilessly bombed isn't good.

During the lockdown I spent my exercise time in the local park where I met (socially distanced of course) other dog walkers. We'd go at the same time every day and have socially distanced conversations, I am friends with those people now. In fact we are all going for a meal in 2 weeks.

So when 73 says people who found good in the lockdown are socially inadequate he couldn't be more wrong, in my case at least. I made friends partly because of the adversity.
