Knife Crime 17:41 - Mar 7 with 7450 views | union_jack | Yet another victim this afternoon. Totally out of hand. There’s a theory that exclusions from school are responsible for this! When the culprits are caught and it is found to be that they are pupils who have been excluded then make the point, not before. It may well be the case but let’s have proof. And if it is the case, how are schools and the teachers supposed to deal with these feral youths? Also, would more police on the streets be a suitable deterrent. We need more for sure but would it decrease or eradicate this problem?

It’s both No father figures, then excluded from school - knock on effect they end up with the local hood It’s pretty obvious, the problem is it needs both left/right solutions The right won’t put the money in and the left won’t accept family breakdown is a massive issue

I think it's probably the gangsta culture, certainly for the younger ones. If it's drug related then most dealers would have some kind of protection

Its not obvious at all. For instance, why dont kids who have no solid family background and are exluded from Swansea schools not go out and do things anywhere near to the extent of inner london areas? Im just not sure schools are to blame here in any way

Agree with this. Vulnerable kids see gang culture as an attractive option because they feel part of a ‘family’ where they are included. Now, whether this is because they didn’t feel like that in school or at home I don’t know but the lure is strong for sure.

Knife Crime on 20:17 - Mar 7 with 4821 views | majorraglan | It’s a product of lots of converging issues. There are lots of children teenagers growing up in parts of the country who have been marginalised, they live in inner city sink hole estates, have had a poor upbringing and limited education. Lots have poor career prospects and little hope of earning a good livelihood. They see gang members selling drugs, committing crime and making lots of money. Some no doubt want to be in the gang, others just happen to live in an area where there are gang and turf wars and get caught up by accident. Some carry knives for protection. There are also law enforcement issues. A considerable reduction in police numbers impacting on their visibility and ability to police. Changing police priorities, for example terrorism, more complex cases and additional administration take them off the street, changes in stop and search guidance have recently been publicised and there has been criticism of lenient sentences. Most of these are directly or indirectly attributable to government policies including some from when Teresa May was in the Home Office. There is no quick fix here and it’s going to take a lot of effort and money to resolve these issues. [Post edited 7 Mar 2019 20:19]

No, mun, Teresa May says there's no link between under resourced police and crime. Get your facts straight. Anyway, there's much more important things to spend money on than police. Like tax breaks for the rich, and Grayling's latest disaster.

Indeed. They can’t find £15m to pay for the police to try and save lives, but they can find £33m to bail out Grayling and the incompetents at the Department of Transport. Wonder what Hammond would say if the Met redeployed his bodyguards and the other officers on duty at Westminster to the areas where the stabbings are taking place. They made enough of a fuss about extra police a few weeks ago when they had demonstrations outside Parliament and Robinson et al were present.

You'd have to be pretty dumb to assume that the only reason for the explosion in knife crime is the hapless Theresa May's defunding of Police. There's loads of reasons, of which that's just one, and far from the most responsible.

Knife Crime on 22:41 - Mar 7 with 4641 views | bangorjack | If there is an association between exclusions and knife crime then I personally would interpret it the other way around, ie the people who are more likely to engage in knife crime are more likely to be the type of person who might get excluded. The whole thing is multifactorial, though, and any one thing that seems to be linked will be more correlation than causation.

Not finding excuses because what they are doing is inexcusable and the offenders/murderers deserve to be looked up for life. The reasons behind the upsurge are numerous and TM and her cuts and other changes to the police are factors.

Knife Crime on 08:47 - Mar 8 with 4476 views | Senhin | Is it not the case that someone who has stabbed someone is more likely to have been expelled, because they are more likely to have been in trouble before than someone who is not stabbing people? That doesn't mean that's the cause. You can see more planes in the sky when it's clear than when it's overcast, therefore planes cause clear skies.

Knife Crime on 10:21 - Mar 8 with 4437 views | gadgetuk | Agree with a lot of points above, reduction in police numbers, lack of family cohesion etc. But a lot is directly attributable to another tory policy - Austerity. The cuts to budgets covering social and youth services means that there is no where for these kids to turn to. There is no one for them to talk to, their career prospects due to the poor economy aren't looking great and there is a huge rise in drug use - and a lot of this is down to the huge increase in cocaine use by middle classes, and the need to grow that supply chain. Kids see a way of making money, however the competition is fierce and they feel they need to arm themselves.

So, if we reduced the police numbers further we wouldn't see a rise in crime? Let's do away with police altogether then we won't have any crime at all.

We’ve all struggled for money at some point in our lives but most of us don’t see sticking a machete into another persons heart as a solution. They have to be some sort of sick twisted individuals to even consider doing such a thing. Let’s not fall into the trap of pretending that people who stab other people are some sort of misunderstood victim. They are utter scum at best.

Always the same nonsense, isn't it? Good grief it costs a few quid to get a football and chuck a few jumpers down and we'd be happy as a pig in sh1t back in the day Having a youth club ain't going to do jack sh1t, it could even increase gang violence. [Post edited 8 Mar 2019 16:19]
