Love Joe Pass. Funnily enough, I’m going through Robert Conti’s version of Satin Doll at the moment. His tuition DVDs are brilliant - you learn jazz by playing jazz is his motto. Highly recommended for blues/rock players who want to get away from pentatonic soloing. He hates modes - “bullshit”! 👠He looks like a Mafia hitman but has the most jaw-dropping chops.
Some earnest student asked Joe Pass about modes “Don’t ask me nuttin’ about modes, I don’t know nuttin’ about modes”. Old school...
Did you know Laurence was in Joe’s band when he was at Berklee?

Didn’t know that. Wow, that’s some way to learn the business. Fabulous using chords the way he does. No wonder I gave up playing when I was younger.
