I think that he'll still move and that our refusal of their offer is just a negotiating tactic by the chairman. But if I was Everton I'm not sure if I'd increase my offer for a player over 30 - they might think that we're trying to take them for fools. | |

Considering the likely sale of Lukaku and Stones, Everton will have plenty of money in the pot to raise their bid. Anything near 15m and I think we would sell but Ash and his agent certainly have some form in doing this each year to up his wages, so who knows. |  |

I just think 10 million (or a bid in that region) is pittance in football today. Losing our long term captain is a massive risk, we may well go on to sell him and do well, but I think for 10/15 million it's really not worth the risk to find out. |  | | |

I think we've got over the fact that we might lose our captain and we've had a good positive statement from the club that they don't want to sell, so hopefully we can calm down about asset-stripping.

I think Everton will raise their bid but does Ash really want to go if we agree a better contract with him. I agree with you that we've probably got over the fact that he may leave and most fans will agree that £15m would do us nicely. Who knows eh! | |

Like everyone else, we don't really know. Personally I would love him to stay but having been such a stalwart of the club and Wales for many years he deserves to have a high profile club as his final CV entry. For that reason I would be happier if he went to Arsenal so that he can also add Champions League involvement to that CV. A few neutrals I've spoken to are gobsmacked we'd consider letting him go for less than £20m. Whilst that's obviously a lot, a ready-made leader coming in and being the bedrock of your defence for at least the next 2 seasons has to be worth £10m a year to any club in this division.
But I suspect the outcome will be a new contract with us. This stinks of the usual Moralee trick. |  | | |
