How much exercise do you get a week? 18:30 - Sep 15 with 18741 views | stuabd | I just had a check up and according to that bloody BMI index I need to lose some weight. I wouldn't say I was fat and I don't have a big gut, but according to my doctor I still need to lose some weight to get the BMI down. I was just wondering how much exercise you guys get a week. I'm 46 I play one hour of footy every Sunday I then practise golf for 2 hours later in the week I also get 18 holes a week in at the weekend I hate gyms so the only alternative is to do more walking. I feel like I could do more but with two kids and a ball-breaker of a wife :) its hard to get the time to do stuff.

How much exercise do you get a week? on 18:49 - Sep 15 with 9080 views | PunteR | My wife and kids keep nagging me to go to the gym,but that just takes to much time and effort. I play footie once a week plus have a physical job being a chippy, I just need to knock the booze on the head. There is a 24hr gym opened up near me ,I just need to get motivated.

How much exercise do you get a week? on 19:12 - Sep 15 with 9027 views | BlackCrowe | 2 or 3 twenty minute runs every week and it's not enough. I know that to get rid of the spare tyre that seems to be developing, I need to cut down on alcohol at night and grazing between meals during the day, but i just can't seem to manage it.

None . Just bought a suit for a wedding on Sat and had to buy 38 waist trousers ... Gutted . My job is not great for health and eating on the road often means sh*t. . Had a run in with a group of lads yesterday , thinking about taking up some sort of fitness/fight class /boxing/ martial art type class to keep fit and give me a bit more confidence . It was something and nothing but TBH shook me up a bit Dont want to be an old git on the tube on my own after a game and feel vulnerable . | | | | Login to get fewer ads
How much exercise do you get a week? on 19:40 - Sep 15 with 8964 views | Drewster | Normally 4-5 times a week down the gym doing kettlebells and stuff. I eat pretty clean, still probably up to a stone overweight as I like the odd pint ( he says whilst sitting at the Tap on the Line in Kew having a pint of Fullers finest). My job doesn't help, in the car, train or plane or sat in an office somewhere.
How much exercise do you get a week? on 20:00 - Sep 15 with 8922 views | NoDiddley | I had a free 'check up' a couple of weeks ago. The company vitality or something were doing it I presume to charge the NHS for the pleasure? Anyway I'm 57 & walk on average 10-12 miles a day at work. But the nice Polish lady said I should work up a sweat to strengthen my heart & I was overweight on the BMI bollox. I felt I was being counselled then I remembered she had previously asked me how much I drank a week
How much exercise do you get a week? on 20:01 - Sep 15 with 8921 views | oldmeadoniansR | 44 years old. Cycle an hour a day during the week commuting. 5 a side once a week 90 minute 11a side every two weeks. Crisps, leffe beer, biscuits, chocolate can't understand why I'm not fighting weight.
How much exercise do you get a week? on 20:09 - Sep 15 with 8903 views | BklynRanger | That BMI always seems to come out as bollox for just about everybody. Granted we're all probably a touch overweight but still! I exercise more than usual at the moment because I've got a marathon in 4 weeks. Like so many people though, I can eat my way through any amount of exercise. The one thing that caused me to loose weight recently was cutting down a lot on sugars and simple carbs. Just dramatically reducing chocolate, chips, cakes, etc can help a lot. Even red wine gets assimilated more slowly than beer. For an extreme example of that diet, with an exercise benefit, you should google 'Mafetone Method'.

How much exercise do you get a week? on 20:37 - Sep 15 with 8843 views | Toast_R | Was into my cycling, did the London to Brighton just bought myself a Felt Road Bike and just did a 70 mile Night Ride around London last month (including cycle home after) and my left knee's been absolutely f*cked since. Not sure what happened but think I probably wasn't ready for that ride and over did it. Had an X-ray (waiting for results) and been taking a course of anti inflammatories but it's still sore. Annoying as even swimming is a struggle. [Post edited 15 Sep 2015 20:39]

Knee trouble after a long ride on a new bike is almost always due to the wrong bike set up. When I got my last one the seat was 3/8th of an inch out and caused all sorts of knee pain on a 200 miler. Worth getting a bike fit..

Everything I have read supports what is said above, basically that controlling your food intake will have a much better affect on your weight. It's not to say it should be exclusively that exercise has other benefits, but for weight loss diet is meant to be better than working out.

How much exercise do you get a week? on 21:01 - Sep 15 with 8777 views | Northernr | Run Monday and Friday after work - 5kish, play football Tuesday Thursday albeit in goal and walk the mile or so to and from Oakleigh Park every day rather than get the Northern Line which is closer. Undo all this by drinking too much beer.

That's my experience. Been skinny all my life, started noticing a bit of a gut when I passed 50 and checked the old BMI and was told needed to lose a stone or more. (Bit of a crude tool though, as if I'd been an inch taller it'd have been happy.) As I get plenty exercise just at work I thought a bit more could do the trick; made no bloody difference at all, just made me hungrier. You have to eat less and crucially you have to be willing to feel hungry for a bit before you eat. Probably shouldn't say this but the biggest weight loss I managed was accidental after a dose of D and V for 24 hours. Once you've got the weight down then you start to notice the benefit of exercise I think.

We have a winner. Although I'd recommend that you do 60 lengths. No point in skimping. [Post edited 15 Sep 2015 22:07]

How much exercise do you get a week? on 22:34 - Sep 15 with 8609 views | bacardiinbrissie | Forget the BMI bulls**T mate its designed for the "average man". Ovet here where Rugby League is massive, every one of the professional players were deemed obese and off the scale using the BMI. Simple facts are 1. 20 mins a day exercise 5 times aweek is sufficient as long as you raised you pulse. 2. Stop eating chips and drinking beer. ! You dont need a specialist to tell you that but you need to accept it. Diet determines and improvements or weight gains. I used to teach in a gym years ago, and thats all i would tell people who came in.if you are training for a long cycle, swimming comp, football or skiing, all your routines are going to be individual and specific for those sports, but for general fitness, regular execise and the correct diet is the key. Im 48 and do gym 3 times a wekk where i mix up cardio, curcuit training and a weights routine depending on how i feel. I am not training for competition so it really doesnt mater which i do, as long as i even them out over a month.I also mountain bike once a week with the kids & will usually swim or just stroll along the beachfront (sorry had to get that in there) with the family. I do drink (too much apparently) but i eat quite clean and have weaned myself of junk food. Dont remember last time i had chips. It also has a positive effect on the family and kids as they eat healthier too.. (except the Sat night kebab!) Find a sport/ hobby you enjoy and can do with mates or the kids. Its always easier when you join with a mate. (hence gym training partners) What about martial arts, boxing, cycling, curcuit training,Tuff Mudder effents, all high impact and all burn calories & excess weight rapidly. Thing is you need to pick something you enjoy or your not going to stick with it and in 12 months you'll be back at start point. My final 2 points- Well done to the poster who said they had lost 7 stone !! thats incredible. Keep it up, A general rule of thumb is whatever gains you make over 4 weeks, can be lost over 2 weeks if you stop Good luck all
How much exercise do you get a week? on 22:48 - Sep 15 with 8574 views | davman | Got diagnosed with a Fatty Liver in May of this year and told losing weight is the only thing that I could do to try to reverse the issue that may well develop into Fibrosis then on to Cirrhosis, from which the ONLY 'cure' is a Transplant. Mum died from Cirrhosis two years ago at 71, so not what I wanted to hear, especially as there is evidence to say that this might be hereditary. So, I listened to many others and the prevalent view was that they only found it with mum at 70 after it had already developed and that they found it 26 years earlier on me and I could do something about it, so I have. Cut down portions, cut out the crap (fatty foods, sweets, eating late at night, drinking, sugary drinks, etc.), but combined that with running. The first run was hell and I was stopping frequently, but it then got easier. After a few weeks I ran every night at least 3 miles and up to 6 miles. Between end May and mid August, I had lost 3 stone and got my BMI down from 30 to 25. I have maintained that now running around 3-4 times a week and playing 90 minutes of 5 a side on Thursdays. I can honestly say, I can't remember feeling better and don't miss the alcohol one little bit. I had dodgy knees and a dodgy back, but the evidence seems to be it was the weight causing that. My running now takes me half an hour, so I do not buy the 'not enough time' angle. Just pack up work 30 minutes earlier and get out when you get home. You'd be amazed how much time is wasted watching pointless TV and surfing Loft For Words. Good Luck, mate - don't go the extreme way lofty did, but a small change will make a huge difference!
