Closest we've got is Shelvey but he is likely to get a red as can be reckless. We need a rock hard DM, an enforcer. A mentalist.

Go get him Huwbert

Could be quite an interesting team selection this time!

Poll: should Leon still be the main man in midfield

This is what worries me, our response to the physicality of Wet Spam in midfield.

It goes without saying that the keeper and back four will need to be at their best, but when you look at our midfield options, the most likey three are Leon, Tom Carroll and Siggy. Skilful ball players all, but hardly a bunch of musclemen when it gets ugly.

Do you think Garry will stick with them, or try something radical? Like the failed Laudrup experiment of playing Amat in front of the back four, for example? What else could he do?

Shelvey won't get away with it. You're absolutely right though - we failed to deal with Carrol last time, this time our centre halfs need to sho him who's boss. Get Leon and Carrol in too, like a Leon/Joe axis and stop giving them free kicks on the half way line where'll they'll just hump it up to him all the time.

Fab

Rangel Bartley (to deal with Carroll specifically) Ash, Taylor

Leon, Carroll

Barrow, Gylfi, Routledge

Gomis

What we don't want is Rangel marking Carroll again... Bartley in with the sole purpose of sticking to that facking lighthouse like superglue. Ash to keep an eye on his minder, Nolan.

Routledge needs to push forward to stop the threat of Jenkinson... if we push him on, it'll make them think again about pushing him forward incase of us breaking...

The full backs main priority is stop the cross any which way so get touch tight rather than the usual give them yards to pick out a cross.

Poll: Some scummer on the anus board reckons 80% of us want them to go down. so... do

Okay, I should've said Shelvey wouldn't get away with it. I was suggesting Leon and Carrol anyway in an attempt to out football them in midfield.

Leon and Caroll in there doesn't fill me with confidence against a side that will no doubt want to boot them all around the pitch. I hope the ref gives us the necessary protection unlike other matches I've witnessed this season. Who will be back up on the bench assuming its a triumvirate of LB, TC and GS?

wouldn't mind seeing a bit more height in midfield

----------------Fabianski--------
---Rangel--Bartley--Williams---Tiendalli (bit better defensively I think)
------Fernandez-----Leon---
Routledge------Gylfi-------Emnes
-----------Gomis-----

a bit of defence and I feel emnes is better at running back and fighting for the ball compared to the other wingers. I also think tiendalli might be better at stop crosses from coming in to the box. also having both caroll and leon on the pitch at the same time will be a horrible decision against a team like west ham

Bartley gave him the freedom of east London last game.

We have a squad of midgets available in midfield which is worrying .

Prepare to be bombarded tomorrow .

Considering who's missing the team effectively picks itself with Britton , Carroll and Siggy being the middle 3 , Monk will stick with AR , FF , AW and NT at the back. Gomis up front.

The only areas Monk could tinker with is the wide midfield areas. I'd like to see Barrow start for this one who i think will give us a real threat out wide. However , Monk no doubt will stick with Dyer and Routledge with maybe Emnes have a chance of starting.

We need to isolate Andy Carroll and mark up face to face as suggested in this thread. The zonal tactic is just so weak and if Carroll gets any free space to jump there is nobody in our side who is going to stop him scoring tomorrow.

Agree like to see Barrow start ahead of Dyer.

Anyone who would drop Fernandez for Barkley is a fuking clown too ...

Innit? One of the reasons we got murdered up there was because Fede was injured. We can't match their physicality and height tomorrow so shouldn't bother trying. Play our own game and run rings round them. They won't get the ball off Carroll and Leon.

Like the sound of Emnes in for Dyer because of his work rate... Routs to start on the left for me to get at Jenkinson!

Amat to sit with Leon in front of the back four?

Agree with this.

We can't beat them at their own game, so what's the point in trying? Being solid defensively is a must but with Leon, Carroll and Siggy in midfield, we should be able to ping the ball around them until they get dizzy. There's only so much hacking they can get away with and we not to be on the ref's back from the start. Make home advantage count.

Would like to see Barrow and Emnes at some point tomorrow. Maybe to run at a tired defence and frighten the bejesus out of them.

It's time to stick our Argentinian International centre back on him. I'm sure Fernandez has one or two South American tricks up his sleeve to upset Carroll.

Briton and Shelvey. Personally I wouldn't pick Shelvey but seems we have no real option in that position.

This kid from Exeter gonna get a place on the bench?

I imagine Fulton will be on the bench or may even start. We could really do with winning this one for all sorts of reasons. The last thing we want to do is get into a physical dogfight. We will lose like we did up there.

No humping it back to them tomorrow Garry, and forget bloody all this 'game management' arse. Go out and be better than them at football for 90 minutes, play with pace and intent from start to finish, and the game will manage itself.
