Hello/Tom Carroll 02:54 - Nov 14 with 5118 views | LAKiM | Hey all, just wanted to introduce myself as a new member/say a bit about myself and then get a few opinions on something that I've been thinking about lately. I'm from the US and so far I've been very impressed and happy with the season thus far (albeit disappointed about our results against Stoke and Newcastle). And while I can't say I was supporting the Swans (or following football) back in the lower league days I can say I love this club. Now to the second part, I've been fairly impressed with Carroll and what he's brought to the side and I was wondering if any of you know anything about any clauses allowing us to purchase him or think we should try to make him a permanent member after this season?
Hello/Tom Carroll on 05:17 - Nov 14 with 4017 views | phact0rri | Hey mate, welcome to the forums. Glad to have another yank onboard (there's a few of us based in the USA). Without having anything definite in print. I do believe he's one of those 'stretch your legs and get some matches in' type of loan. And I'm pretty sure his value has nudged itself up since the Arsenal match if what the media are saying is to be believed.

Hello/Tom Carroll on 06:33 - Nov 14 with 3968 views | jackal | Welcome. I wasn't too impressed with Carroll at first. He seriously needs to get on the weights. However against Arsenal he had a good game and could step up from there.
Hello/Tom Carroll on 07:14 - Nov 14 with 3911 views | latchford | Welcome. Up until the Arsenal game I was unimpressed with Carroll but he was arguably man of the match last week. More of the same is needed. Where in the States are you from?

Hello/Tom Carroll on 08:53 - Nov 14 with 3730 views | MrSwan | Its a position where we need to invest money and hes arguably what we need so i would be happy to pay up to 9 million for hi but its a must that he gets some muscle on him same as Barrow.

Innit. A decent second half and he's Iniesta... Looks like he could develop into a very good player - hope we have an option to buy at a fixed price, bit of a pointless loan otherwise.

Thank goodness Huw and co aren't as free with the purse strings as you would be. From a Swans point of view Carroll has done nothing to warrant paying more than £2-£3 million. One excellent game doesn't warrant his value jumping by several million. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

its not what i would want to pay id love to pay 3 million for him but i cant see that happening i think he should be worth 5 - 6 but think they will ask for 8 then we need to ask if we are going to pay that for someone who has spent a season with us and done well or are we going to risk spending on someone who we only know who has been scouted. But f course he has o actually do well for the season first.

are you mad 9 million for tom carol he's had one decent game the worlds gone crazy
Hello/Tom Carroll on 11:14 - Nov 14 with 3459 views | JackSomething | In a world where we pass on JDG for circa £5m, I can safely assume we will not be spending £9m on Tom Carroll. Nice to see yet another dig at the summer's transfer dealings by the way Warwick. Carroll has started 4 games (3 of which were wins), has come off the bench in others and means we haven't had to resort to playing the likes of Sheehan. I would have liked to have seen another midfielder signed this summer, but labelling his loan pointless without an agreed transfer fee is a bit of a reach.
| You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help. |

He's had one good 45 minute spell and as Ux rightly said, he's our 6th choice midfielder and we have only one specialist DM who's only just back to fitness. We had and still have other priorities - namely at DM and full back. If we're giving him game time as a bit player for Spurs to reap the benefits down the line then it's a pointless signing. If we have an option to sign a promising youngster who impresses then it's a good move.

I imagine him running around as fast as Barrow at full pelt but being the size of Kyle Bartley

I'm from New York. And I definetly agree with the comments that he needs to bulk up, but I think if we could get him looking to play a bit more positively at times (I think confidence from good performances will help) I think he could be a very good deep-lying playmaker because he's a pretty decent passer and he's fairly good on the ball. I personally feel if he's available for around 5-6 mil we should look to pick him up as a good rotation player and to take over Leon's role in the future.
Hello/Tom Carroll on 14:48 - Nov 14 with 3209 views | LeonisGod | Welcome. He's a tidy footballer who does still need to add a bit of strength/bite to his game (compare with the tenacity of Leon's play for example). But he's got the technical skills without a doubt. I've always been impressed because he's calm in possession and looks after the ball; attributes that our success has been built on. But he is a way off where lets say someone like JdG was (for now). I suspect we were interested in the loan with a view to a potential transfer if things work out, but of course have no way of knowing for sure.

Hello/Tom Carroll on 19:46 - Nov 14 with 2983 views | PozuelosSideys | Very similar to how Joe Allen was at that age, maybe a bit further along in his development technically perhaps? But without that snappy bite about him. All very neat and tidy and will keep things ticking over - something Shelvey doesnt really do in that role. (No slight on Shelvey btw, he adds far more in other ways)

Hello/Tom Carroll on 19:59 - Nov 14 with 2965 views | Rancid | He was busting a gut in the Arsenal game as a Tottenham player on loan at Swansea. If he can put a shift like that in every opportunity he gets then he'll be worth a punt.Far too early to be talking about signing the lad but he has potential. We do have similar types of players already here so he'd have to match or outshine them first I'd like to think.

Carroll is a rough diamond, he actually reminded me of Joe Allen. He needs more time to grow as a player, however, will he get the required games, IMOP he is unlikely to get the nod. I think he would be a replacement for LB. He had a great game against Arsenal, so even if you are for him or against him the lad did his job.

Joe Allen was a far better player at 22 than Carroll
