REDBIRDS DEBT ? 19:22 - Nov 6 with 7281 views | pikeypaul | The REDBIRDS debt stood at £118 million when the accounts were released last January 10th. What is your guess it will stand at this year bearing in mind it is up to May 31st 2014 I will take a stab at £138million. Also FFP may well kick in to them soon with a transfer embargo on the horizon. [Post edited 6 Nov 2014 19:25]

Nope with a picket in my hand and my voice box - along with thousands of others who disagreed with how our club was ran, not just a token one for the cameras either, a relentless vocal and visual attack on the owner until we got what we wanted. This was in league 2 with our 4,000 attendances and had just as many people turn up on that march as you did with your 20,000 crowd on a match day a stone throw from the ground, 2 years after the fact and only because you were relegated. It's a stark staring fact that your club is hugely in debt to Tan, and he's charging interest on that debt. I think he's there for a while yet. He'll milk as much as he can, then sell assets and finally sell the club, making a decent profit overall but leaving Cardiff in deep doo doo. So much depends on promotion again. But your away form is very poor, you aint going anywhere but mid table. Question is, will that in itself cause more money worries? | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) |

Indeed, it was utterly pathetic. They asked for it to happen remember. Tan backed down and released a statement saying there would be no rebrand, the fans changed his mind and begged for the cash. The fact they are now lower than when it all started but £100m added to their already big debt is just pure comedy. | ![](/images/avatars/9092.gif) |

A mate of mine (not from Swansea) is a Cardiff fan and still is envious we could carry out "an act of fraud " and due to the rules those days we got away without a 10 point penalty. Even though out of the £1.2 - 1.5 million debt over half was owed to Mel Nurse who took the biggest hit and I explained that all of those businesses had either had recompense or contracts for work at the new stadium but that just goes in one year and out the other. People cared here for their club. With the amount of debt they have when it does go pop in comparison to ours it will be like Hiroshima to st Helen's on bonfire night. | ![](/images/avatars/8686.gif) |

People cared about for their club? The club was worth feck all, you had nothing to lose and yes if the 10 point rule had been in then you would have been in the Conference. Now i am not saying we did enough to oppose the rebrand but Tan's promise of a £100 million investment swayed a lot of people which some were very vocal . His reason for the rebrand was for supposedly the Asian market which we all knew was a load of bollux. What are we supposed to not like being reminded of again? That if a rule that didn't exist - existed, then we would have been relegated? Thats like saying if I was alive when the dinosaurs got hit by the comet then I probably wouldn't have survived. Do excuse me for not losing any sleep over something that didn't exist at the time of the event. The fact is, we were not happy with our chairman so ousted him immediately. You guys ASKED to be stripped of your colours for some cash loans to buy players with, you rejoiced at millions of pounds being spent in your name, your whole stadium waved red scarves at a home match, you all loved it when promoted singing songs about us on your promotion parade. You were an embarrassment to the Premier League and then started bleating about the red etc (Two, yes TWO, years after the event). You are a mess of a club from top to bottom and will continue to be so as any sort of limelight is craved by the fans over the wellbeing of the club. Anyone that offers some exposure and some cash will be met with giddy excitement even if the cost is handing big chunks of the clubs heritage and dignity. You are the football leagues shameless casting couch. [Post edited 8 Nov 2014 13:34]

Oh come on, nobody is ignoring what happened in the past. The big difference is, we have learned from it. You lot won the FA cup way back in the distant past, but if there had been as many clubs around as now, you probably wouldn't have.........which is as pointless a statement as the ten point rule thing you spouted. You see as well as not ignoring the past, you can't change it either. And we actually don't mind people bringing up our past, because it's part of the reason for our rise, and rise. WE LEARNED FROM IT!! On the other hand, despite Hamman, Ridsdale et al, you lot have learned nothing. You spout off about our debt back then and how we were worth nothing, all true. But our debt was a fraction of what yours is now. Your debt is the Albatross around your neck. You can't shake it, it continues to rise and may well one day smash your club apart. Our debts in total (from the two times we went broke) totalled around 3 million I think, your current debt is around 39 times as large. As things stand right now, Swansea City is worth well in excess of 100 million. Should we buy our own ground, that figure could double (especially with any extension) either of which is light years ahead of you. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) |

Funny that, you say you learned from your mistakes but went broke a second time? What didn't you learn from the first time then? Lets be honest here we have never been in your position, have we? If there weren't so many teams about when we won the cup how come you never won it then? You lot worry about our debt more than us probably because we can't do nothing about it, maybe we should take Parlay's advice and take a few pick axes down to bury in Tan's head? | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

I think you should have read pickets, not pick axes. A picket is a demonstrative sign, a pick axe is predominantly a mining tool. You say "we" didn't learn from the first time. We certainly did, which is why we ousted any sniff of it the second time. We as fans cant control what is spent and what isn't, what we can do however is look out for the best interests of the club within our powers. We have gained 21% of the club in order to do this and any funny business by any owner will be met with complete contempt regardless of empty promises. You however went into it completely with open eyes. You knew the £100m + loans on the table, you knew about the dismantling of your identity, you knew his intentions werent great - but hey the bigger the credit card the more chance of seeing Rooney et al right? You cant even begin to compare. We as fans acted superbly and admirably and wrestled our club back from the brink and steered it into fan owned hands. You were pushing your club onto every loan shark with obvious bad intentions that would listen and you are still doing nothing about it. | ![](/images/avatars/9092.gif) |

Must be good having a crystal ball, how the hell Tony Petty ever got through your doors really baffles me. Sam Hammam had done Wonders at Wimbledon, taken from non league to winning a Cup final and more. Now when he came to us it wasn't identified that he was loaning money from the banks until they refused to lend him more, that's when the perverbial hit the fan. Risdsdale wasn't an owner, he was brought in by Hammam to stop the spending and find another owner which is where Tan came in, now i had never heard of him but obviously with your crystal ball you had. Now he had been with us for over a year before he decided to rebrand us, only wish i had your foresight to see that coming. Crystal ball? Tan told everyone what the deal was FIRST, £100m loans for the abolishment of the blue - you all took it gleefully. I have a link to the online library showing fans writing letters to be published in the Echo begging Tan to reconsider after he decided to not proceed. It makes for cringeworthy reading, it really does. I can also link you to both your forum at the time of the incident, giddy unadulterated excitement. "The next chelsea" was bandied about by some, "its only a colour" by others. Every owner can come through the door if they wish, fans have little to no say in that. Its what they do when there can be scrutinised by the fans and if necessary - acted upon. All too many of you played the "oh damn nothing we can do about it" while you donned your red scarfs cheering and jumping up and down with each new signing. Im afraid where we took the club by the scruff of the neck, you guys sat back in faux silent outrage enjoying the ride. When you realised it wasn't so great and you were still pretty shit THEN you decided what you allowed to happen wasn't on. Now where did he say he was going to loan us £100 mill? I thought he said he was going to invest that amount. Yes he said he would only invest if we changed colour, some were for it and some weren't, now being you know so much about our club you will know what happened when a group was formed to oppose it, now the ones that threatened that group are very quiet . One minute you say we welcomed these leeches to our club then you say any owner can come through the door? Make your mind up. Shameful club, shameful fans? We finished less than ten points clear of relegation the season the CVA went through. Why a rule that didn't even exist at the time obsesses the Basseys so much I have no idea, but if they didn't have their crumbs of comfort to cling onto they probably wouldn't have an awful lot going for them at all. | ![](/images/avatars/8802.gif) |
