Jack to a king: The review 20:25 - Sep 12 with 36387 views | Plazex | RATING OUT OF 10-No, I am being serious. A big 10. It follows the story of Swansea from when they had the rollercoaster ride in 2001-2003 to where they are now. Some parts had the cinema laughing, especially the guys in the masks. Another part that was funny was the 'T.W.A.T.' Headline that had everyone laughing I'm not gonna say that much, It is around an hour 30 long. Seriously, it's worth the 9 quid or whatever it is.

Jack to a king: The review on 23:56 - Oct 26 by WarwickHunt | That used to be an agreement between the big studios and the cinema chains, it won't apply to a tiny indie and nobody would give a f*ck if it did anyway. It's grossed less than 80k at the box office. |
has it really? That's a pretty poor return - they'd better sell a few dvds. Having said that, I have to admit I haven't been to see it - I have very little interest in seeing it really, not sure why, I just haven't bothered. It's not just the 'reviews' on here - I wasn't fussed before it came out.
Jack to a king: The review on 00:04 - Oct 27 with 1876 views | Parlay | Its the highest grossing football documentary of all time in fact. It grossed £75,000 in the first 4 weeks. It was never going to be a Titanic and im sure nobody expected it to be, it is what it is and is the most successful of its kind to date.

do football documentaries normally have a budget of £1.5m? Genuine question by the way. I'm not deliberately knocking what was done. But I sort of assume that the answer to my question is no, since people would presumably never ever make films that cost £1.5m and take £80k over and over again.

Subsidised by the club to the tune of £1.5m. Laughable.

No idea. Didnt even know the budget was that, seems awfully high for a simple documentary. The second highest grossing football documentary at the box office was Manchester Uniteds "class of 92" which grossed £44,000 but it then went on to sell shed loads in DVD sales which we would never even get close to matching a fraction of. Im not sure it was done for pure profit from the clubs behalf, its almost a form of advertising to sell our brand and to raise the profile. [Post edited 27 Oct 2014 0:14]

I imagine that we will sell a load of dvds as well although as you say the budget seems very high - they make documentaries that win oscars for less than that. I agree re the purpose though - it's looking more and more like an extended infomercial.

Yeah we will sell a fair few I'm sure. Its something that can be sold forever as well as its not time specific like a season review etc. it may be an important DVD for future generations to understand how the club is what it is. I don't have an issue with it and am still skeptical on this £1.5m figure but don't have any firm facts to argue the point. Manchester United have sold 5 million of those DVD's though and it was only released last year. Astonishing really.

Jack to a king: The review on 00:21 - Oct 27 with 1819 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | That's poor. Rocky, Paranormal Activity, Saw, The Purge and numerous other films that grossed tens, sometimes hundreds of millions had much smaller budgets than this vanity project. How did they spend millions sitting someone in a chair and interviewing them? Has any fraud taken place?

Do we know for a fact the budget was £1.5m? Well, thats nit even the budget, that what some are suggesting the club contributed alone. As you say, paranormal activity had a budget of about £8,000. Saw which is a horror motion picture with a full cast to pay had a budget of about £600,000. I highly doubt Swansea put such a figure into a documentary.

Rocky was made in 1976 Dwight. That's like saying you could buy a brand new Rolls in 1976 for cheaper than the cost of a top range Focus now. And why mention fraud? What possible reason do you have for doing that? Or are you just determined to libel as many people as you possibly can in one evening?

But where are people getting this figure from? Its an astonishing amount. Im not saying its untrue im just trying to understand where the figure has come from otherwise determining whether it has been a success financially or not is a debate not really based on anything.

I don't know for a fact no. I've seen it mentioned on here several times though and by people that would have no real reason to lie about it as far as I could tell. It does seem very high though I agree.

Yep I've seen it mentioned too and never really thought much about it. Its only now that im questioning it as after giving it some thought it doesn't make much sense. Not calling peoples integrity into question, but I've been around this forum long enough to know a guessed figure quickly turns into a factual one in very little time at all.

If it were intended to be a historical document then it's fundamentally flawed with the omission of people like Kenny Jackett and Richard Lillicrap. The film was intended to raise our profile as a club, as Huw Jenkins stated. Considering almost nobody outside the Swansea area has seen it they obviously did a bang up job, The budget does seem high, and I'd be surprised if they spent that much on the kind of "documentary" Panorama could bung out on a weekly basis for a fraction of the cost, although if they're including marketing costs it's possible. Jack to a king: The review on 10:31 - Oct 27 with 1615 views | budegan | Where did the 1.5mil figure come from? The match footage would almost certainly have been the most expensive factor in the film, hence with the exception of the Wembley game very little of it used and the reliance on photos / (mocked) newspaper headlines. Doubtless this would also have driven many of the editorial decisions, and contributed to why certain stories were completely overlooked.
