Taarabt giving Warnock his shirt 15:05 - Jan 26 with 9457 viewsRANGERS4EVER

Just saw on BBC Sport "Great scenes in the tunnel at Bramall Lane as Adel Taarabt interrupts Neil Warnock doing his post-match analysis on television to give his former manager his shirt from the match"

Nice gesture from Taarabt (This post is not one begging for Taarabt back, just giving information, so please do not hate)

Excellent post, Antti,

It's hard to discuss Taarabt on here sometimes. Any attempt to analyse him in a balanced fashion can bring accusations of bias or naivety with it, but that's an accurate post and a decent recap of is time with us.

It's an opinion - nothing more, nothing less. Some have the same one, some of us view him very differently. The one thing for sure is that he divides people.

ah the old 'one season' myth.
Saved us from relegation the previous season, as admitted by Warnock in his book - he had a major hand in almost every goal we scored from the moment Warnock arrived until the end of that season.
Best player in the league the following season.
Had an awful start the following season, unfit and disgraced himself. But then was a major part of the side after Christmas, playing in almost all of Hughes's games and scored vital goals against Arsenal and Spurs to help us win 5 home games on the trot to keep us up. He was disciplined, hard-working, even diligent.
Then Hughes decided to make him the playmaker/fulcrum the following season. After one game, during which he was superb in the first half, he abandoned this. Taarabt got injured, but returned to score a wonder goal v West Ham. When Redknapp took over he was already the talisman again, and was consistently our best player for three months - a leader, in fact. then he missed the pen v Norwich and had a bad game v Man Utd and despite everything he'd done for Harry - being the one spark he could count on, he dropped him. He brought him back v Villa as a sub, where he was superb. But then kept him off the pitch again. He brought him back v Fulham, where he scored and won a penalty, and then dropped him again.

The idea that he only played well for one season is a nonsense. Adel is his own worst enemy, for sure, I make no excuses for him, but he's also been very poorly managed at times - and particularly by Redknapp.

Spot on Antii. I wasnt going to add to this thread because its tedious seeing the same old bollx bandied about Adel. But I have to say brilliant re.cap of his time with us.
You did omit probably one of my favourite displays from him tho. The almost 1 man demolition of Scum at theirs .He had Scum players bouncing off him that night, they just couldnt get the ball off him. Thats how you hold the ball up Bobby Z!

I was trying to be balanced and not over-egg it, but I should've included that performance, which was tremendous.

Bare bones.

7 goals in 57 games, compared to the 19 he got in our championship winning season sort of suggests he never done much in the last 2 years for us.

There is no doubting his obvious talent and it was a pleasure watching him that year, fact is he did no more then Kenny did that year getting us up and I would not want him back either.

Wow. Amazingly short sighted, you aren't Paul Hart are you?

How many goals did others score during those two years?

Sexy Asian dwarves wanted.

No, but I wish I had his money.

As I have said was a pleasure to have seen him play but would not like to see him back. And for the record we scored 73 league goals whilst in the prem. Adel scored 7 and assisted on 10.Also the question you could also ask is how many goals could others had scored if Adel was not so frustrating and passed to players in better positions.

When he didn's play the goals hardly flowed either and haven't since he left so not sure it was really down to him more a far deeper problem.

To say he did nothing in 2 years is ridiculous though, he wasn't a world beater and could have done more but he hardly disgraced himself and was one of the few players over the last 2 years who can say they contributed something positive.

Come off it, over our two dreadful Prem seasons he probably did more than anyone except Clint Hill

this

has shown some appalling lack of judgement and disgraceful attitude at times if all is to believed, but despite that was still one of the very few to come out with any credit from the previous 2 seasons.

Why hasnt he established himself in the Fulham side especially while Jol was Manager.

IMO he is a class apart in the Championship , in the Premier League he has to be in a team playing with confidence before he influences the game .

Ironically if he did play for a top 4 team he may be a success , I dont think he will ever get the chance .

He's been a regular the last few weeks but is up against better players than him so was never going to be easy for him to be a regular for them

maybe I should have said "paradoxically".

I am sure you know what I mean . He is good enough to play in a top team but he doesnt get selected or play well enough for lesser teams to get the chance .

As I said in an earlier post, a flat track bully .

In that promotion season Adel was an absolute joy. The last part of the season before he was also a lot of fun to watch. In the two season in the Prem he never really got a chance/got going. Both Hughes and 'arry used him in fits and starts and whenever he seemed to be settling in he would be left out the next game. Of course, its a chicken and egg thing as to whether his performances made him not a regular or him not being a regular led to his performances. All I know is that he was really fun to watch and his goals and assists were spectacular. During our seasons in the Prem, I always had the feeling that he was too far ahead of his lazy teammates who were always pulling up or miles offside (Cisse, I am looking at you!) as he was threading the ball through. You have to think that playing with Austin infront of him would suit Adel perfectly. I don't know if he's coming back or if he is ultimatley good enough for the highest level, but I certainly hope so on both counts. Adel was a joy to watch and joy, after all, is what football is really about.

Forgot how good he was that night. Shame he cant be fitted into the team. If only he's attitude was like that every game.

They are different managers who expect different things, Redknapp got some very good performances out of adel last season but it came to a point last summer where he needed real professionalism every day and sadly Adel didn't give him that so rather than pander to him as Warnock did he made an example of Taarabt, whether that was right or not is up for debate but it's worked out ok for us

Taarabt giving Warnock his shirt on 11:05 - Jan 27 by daveB

He was pretty good for us in the Prem, player of the year last season until his penalty which seemed to affect him badly and Redknapp decided after that to go with Zamora and Remy so he hardly played again. Sadly all of his good performances are quickly consigned to the dustbin by many and we pretend that didn’t happen.

He said last summer he wants to play for us again one day and would love to come back but wanted a chance to play in the premier League which other players like Joey Barton have also said in the past.

I think the chances of him coming back have gone now he’s back in favor at Fulham, we needed him to come back to us with the club in a strong position to dictate terms with him, I’m not sure that will be the case if he comes back in the summer so doubt he’ll play for us again for a good few years. Shame as I agree with those who say we’d stand a better chance with him in the side and a think a front two of him and Austin would be far more prolific and far more chance of developing in the prem than the Krancjkar and Austin pairing as although Niko is still a good player he is well past his best these days.

No, you pretend that he played well in the Prem.

1 swallow doesn't make a spring. No doubting his talent and ability but he doesn't apply himself. Wish he did because he'd be one hell of a player but I lost patience with him a long time ago. He's not a young kid with potential anymore.

Jol laughably thought he could turn him into an effective premier league footballer so bad luck Fulham, you're stuck with it.
