Saints At FC Midtjyland The Preview

Saints will be without Victor Wanyama but that could actually be an advantage if the Midtjyland tactics from the first leg are repeated.

Saints losing Wanyama would usually be a big blow, but if the Danes play the same game in tonight's second leg then it might not be the blow that it could have been.

If Midtjyland sit back and get en behind the ball and invite Saints to break them down, then Wanyama's ball winning skills might not be needed and a more subtle approach required.

Wanyama is your man when the going gets tough in the midfield, but his distribution is lacking a little and it could be that Saints need to catch the Danes with quick balls rather than a patient build up, when Midtjyland come out they will quickly retreat back and before they have had a chance to re organise Saints will need to catch them.

That almost happened in the opening minutes of the tie at St Mary's, but we didn't take the chance and they didn't give us another.

So the loss of Wanyama is a blow but it needn't be a crisis and we can use it to our advantage and we have enough quality to cover it.

We have a large squad these days and those that come in are good enough.

All we need to fear from Midtjyland is fear itself, we are a Premier League side, if we play to that standard then we should be good enough to win this game and of course the tie.

In adversity and it could be described as that with so many key players out injured, it needs heroes to step up to the plate and we have a few who might well take their chance and do that.

We worked hard for this qualification last season, now we need to make sure that we don't throw it away.

Midtjyland will play to their game plan, we need to play to ours and stick to it and have the confidence to stick to it, we have the firepower to score and once we get a goal the tie has turned in our favour,
