Ash - We've Been Challenged To Go Unbeaten Wednesday, 2nd Apr 2014 06:28 Ashley Williams says that manager Garry Monk has challenged the squad to try and remain unbeaten all season after they took a massive step towards Premier League safety last weekend with a 3-0 win over Norwich at the Liberty. The Swans go to Hull this weekend in search of a back to back win in the Premier League (something they have not achieved since December 2012) knowing that one more win would finally banish all fears of relegation for this season. And whilst looking to remain unbeaten for the rest of the season seems exceptionally unlikely it is the manager's way of saying that we will not just give up once safety is achieved which was criticism aimed at us last season. We passed the 40 point barrier last season one week after winning in the Capital One Cup and seemed to hit easy street from that point forward but this time around Williams believes that the Swans will continue to push onwards once safety has been achieved. The Swans have six games left this season starting against Hull this weekend and if they achieve the challenge of remaining unbeaten will end the season closing in on a similar tally to our first two seasons in the division. “Of course we want to make sure we get the wins and the points to make sure we’re safe, although I’m not too sure how many we will need,” said Williams. “Because we’re not looking at getting to 37 or 38 points and then just stopping. “We’re trying not to lose again this season, to win as many as we can and to just keep going. There’s six games left and it’s in our hands to achieve that. “We’re not saying ‘two more wins’, forget that. We’ve got games left so why can’t we try to win them all? And if we can’t win them, let’s not lose. That’s the way we’re looking at it.” I would assume that as a football team we go into every game aiming not to lose it so it is hardly revolutionary thinking on this front but it certainly beats some of the negativity that seemed to come out of the club at times prior to some games. And Williams added: “We know it’s a bit bullish to say that after we’ve just drawn one and won one and the position we’ve been in, but that’s the way we feel and what we want to do. We’ve got to set our standards high and get back to where we have been in the last two years. We want to finish the season strong and take the momentum into next season.” Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
