Agree totally. That tackle freed up Ashby (I think) to make what seemed the only real positive pass out of midfield in the whole night.
We seem afraid to spread the game out, constantly making short passes that nearly always result in us getting dispossessed but at the same time mean we stay defensively sound. Fair enough in games like Cardiff who looked a carbon copy home side as us, but we’ve got to learn to tackle and more importantly have players who are actually ready to capitalise on that. Madsen, that means you.
Great result but there’s too many strollers in the middle of the park. |

I have a theory that Celars penalty miss actually gained us a point.
If we’d equalised that early Stoke would have had the best part of an hour to rampage all over us. |

Patient? I can’t imagine any support base being as patient as we’ve been.
We’ve also cut Marti a considerable amount of slack. Celar needs to up his game 100% right now before I start thinking our manager is taking the piss. |

This is the oddity.
Likewise, I’ve been impressed with Nardi and Morrison from day one.
Saito has the ability and adapted to this league in recent months, Varane has come on a bundle since his early displays.
Dembele either hasn’t adapted or is just bamboozled by the roles we’ve played him in, that said he has skill and hopefully will improve. Ashby hasn’t been great but shows some improvement recently.
Of the others we’ve seen, Celar & Santos have been a disaster and Madsen doesn’t look like getting up to speed.
Still, 4 good, 2 who could go either way and 3 who aren’t going to make it, is not that bad a ratio.
It’s been unfortunate that all of these nine players have been forced to make the jump into first team action far sooner than we’d ordinarily have wanted. |

This is what happens when you have too many layers of management.
That said, having a defined method of playing is what many on this board were crying out for so it’s a bit rich to complain about it when it doesn’t work.
In the end it all comes down to who chose Celar or more to the point, during the summer, just the one CF when we got rid of two forwards from a side that we know has lacked forwards for some years previous.
Cant help feeling if we had Cannon up front we’d be where Stoke are and they’d be in our place. |

Was funny that Madsen hit the first man with his corner to much groaning, the ball came straight back to him and somehow he managed to do exactly the same with his follow up cross. Immediately got dragged off and was still walking round the pitch as Saito put in a corner exactly as it should be, and we scored.
As you say, looked down the line as we celebrated and Madsen standing there was a picture to behold. |
