Didn’t agree with you during the week reference the budget Ifonly. 100% with you on yesterday however. I’ve never thought that Sports Republic would sack Martin having given him a new three year contract simply because there is no upside for them, only a financial downside. After yesterday’s very fortunate but nonetheless welcome victory Martin’s position is even more secure. Clubs don’t normally avoid Premiership relegation having obtained one point from their first nine games nor for that matter four from ten. Because of Sports Republics ineptitude during the close season and the last transfer window our destination for season 25/26 is The Championship with Martin in charge at least initially. |

Sugawara and Bree were both fit and played on Tuesday. If indeed there was a virus, surely those players affected with it would have been isolated from both of them for the remainder of the week ? On the basis of Sports Republic’s recent achievements it probably never occurred to them to keep them seperated. |

Sugawara gets Ramsdale out of jail with a goal line clearance against Stoke and is dropped. Bree scores the winner against Stoke and is dropped. Dibling who at least attempts to attack is replaced by Adam Armstrong who is at best a Championship striker with a terrible goals per game Premiership record. Plus it looks on paper as though we are playing five at the back against Everton at home. We had better win today or Mr Martin is going to be in for a rough ride at 17.00 this afternoon. Oh well Ifonly, we’ve come to the end of the working week and the world hasn’t stopped spinning:- As I suggested, Labour’s first budget in fourteen years promising amongst other things more financial support for the N H S, progresses its journey to being implemented, thanks to a commons majority of 170 seats. Further, complaints from those asked to pay more are now just yesterday’s chip wrappings. We remain still taxing less than the majority of comparable European countries and are as far away as ever from adopting the U S economic model with its inherent higher inequality. All in all, I suggest an excellent week for close minded arrogant idiots, don’t you know. PS. Good luck with your suggestion of sending old people to Scotland compulsorily by the way. That’s an absolute corker. If nothing else it made me laugh on a rather dull November day weather wise. [Post edited 1 Nov 18:21]

Yep, and that’s why we were effectively relegated during the weekend the clocks went back. Sports Republic’s Owners, Board Members, Recruitment Staff and Senior Management at their finest. |

Regretfully Chesham when in July 40% of eligible voters couldn’t be bothered to get to a nearby polling station or even request a postal vote it’s the sort of result that transpires. Agreed far from perfect, but to use an old motor trade auction expression “ That’s the bid and that’s the offer”. Wasn’t the country offered a change to a form of P R a few years back ( Cameron P M at the time? ) and gave the suggestion the thumbs down ? |

So Ifonly, by virtue of the fact you have not suggested anything to the contrary we can now assume that you have accepted ( I imagine somewhat reluctantly ) that even after yesterday’s budget tax increases, our tax take to G D P ratio is less than the majority of comparable European countries ? That’s a start at least. You then state “ I don’t think that every other European government is wrong “. Another step forward. Unfortunately and for reasons best known to yourself, prior to the above mentioned Damascene moments, you appear to suggest that a role model for us should be “ getting in step with the US”. A country 3000 odd miles away whose economy has produced some of the biggest life inequality for its citizens in the whole Western World and which appears to be on the verge of electing a grifter as its president for the second time. Forgive me if I’m not attracted to that proposal. The bottom line for the next five years or so is that a democratically elected UK government with a majority of 170 seats has decided to increase taxation to fund public services, primarily the N H S. Quite unsurprisingly those asked to contribute more aren’t happy, thus it ever was in every budget I can remember. By next week their complaints will be completely forgotten. |

So you don’t dispute that our tax take as a share of GDP is lower than the majority of European countries If only ? Just that you now consider that near enough every other European government is wrong.Interesting theory to say the least. Reminds me of the mother who goes to see her son march in a parade. He’s the one clearly out of step but in her eyes it’s all the fault of the others. As I said earlier “ never let the facts get in the way of a good story”. |

What’s unbelievable Ifonly is you continually suggesting that as a nation we are hugely over taxed. Even after yesterday’s welcome tax increases to fund a better society for us all, our overall tax rate as a percentage of G D P is still lower than nearly every country in Europe. I’m reminded of the old phrase “ Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story”. |

Good to see we are on common ground in regard to the minimum wage Pat, given that your original post suggested it was part of your perceived problem concerning employers costs. Let’s all wait and see if your suggestion that raising Employers N I will have the impact you suggest. Frankly I couldn’t care if I never went in a pub again but that’s more to do with me never drinking alcohol rather than the effects or otherwise of today’s Budget. |

Pat, the minimum wage was long overdue when it was introduced by the Labour government elected in 1997. It’s introduction was vigorously opposed by the Tory Party suggesting it would result in an increase in unemployment, it didn’t and nor now will employers having to pay increases in N I. Some employers have for years been able to obtain cheap workers by exploiting the tax credit system where effectively tax payers have subsided workers wages. Now they are simply being asked to put more back into the system and it’s not before time in my opinion. As for admitting that you voted Labour. Don’t make a worry of it, after all it’s not a sin requiring confession. [Post edited 30 Oct 20:43]

We won’t and he won’t. Sports Republic haven’t got the money to change anything. It’s The Championship next season with Russell Martin at the helm. At least the ticket prices won’t increase and there will be more games to watch some of which we may actually win. |

More importantly, they purchased a proper Centre Forward with Premiership experience, rather like our successful neighbours down in Sussex. Not to worry, in Sports Republics Owners, Board, Recruitment Team and Senior Management we trust. The future’s bright, the futures relegation by Christmas. |

Why did we waste money on Wood and Edwards ? Because that’s what Sports Republic want, although they don’t see it as a waste, to them it’s a perfectly reasonable gamble. It fits with their ethos of assembling a large number of young players at relatively little cost in the hope that the odd one will come good and can be sold for a massive profit. Remember Lavia to Chelsea for £50 million ? |

Ifonly, Given that Sports Republic managed to engineer our exit from The Premiership when we actually had some Premiership quality players and we are now 1/5 to be relegated yet again, your suggestion of re-establishment currently looks the least likely outcome I’m afraid. Yo-Yo is the best we can hope for with them in control. [Post edited 23 Oct 12:03]

Our season is already irretrievable which to me fits Sports Republic’s long term narrative of wanting to be a Championship feeder club to established Premiership teams. They aren’t currently concerned who manages our club. That’s how they see the future:- Purchase vast numbers of young players at relatively low cost ( play them in Turkey if necessary) in the hope that one or two out of every batch comes good and they sell on at a vast profit. Case in point Lavia to Chelsea for £50 million. Long term they know they can’t compete in the Premiership hence becoming a yo-yo club isn’t a problem given the Parachute Payments should we get promoted every now and then. |
