After watching recent games it appears a larger problem than strikers being in bad form although this does look to be a contributing factor.
The team seem to be working hard, although it has to be said the individual quality we are so used to has recently been lacking. Possession retention looks difficult for us, something in the past that has been our bread and butter, when teams press us high the defensive players seem to be getting pinned then flustered. I think some of this comes from having options early and partly down to confidence.
This in turn leads us to lumping things forward, which i saw a lot of yesterday. In turn this makes it very difficult for the frontmen to get the ball down and allow other players to play off.
We have had the most success when we try to play through teams with 1/2 touch passing,
See video of Bradford Penalty, came from the 1 touch passing and movement between Michu, Leon and Dyer
We seem now to be looking to push the ball down the wings and get crosses in rather than look for balls back inside or move it quickly through the middle and to some degree i understand why.
Gomis and Ayew are generally good in the air but with the lack of confidence and quality on delivery recently no crosses are getting into the box, when they do they are often dealt with.
In order to rectify this i think we need to re-evaluate the formation and tactics being used, look to get players like Montero, Routs etc to run into channels rather than hugging the touchline, this would allow us to get in behind teams rather than looking for the long whipped cross.
The disadvantages of this is it is likely the CM will have less space, however these players should have the quality and intelligence to find the time between the lines and look for the killer ball between the CB and Full back.
The positives we have to take from yesterday is the desire of the players, it looks to me that they want to play for Garry although results have been going badly. With a bit of good luck i believe we can get this season back on track.
The hour of crisis is upon PS. Everyone talking about getting rid of Garry.
My question is why is no one looking at Jamies Beattie. The problem we are having is scoring goals, we retain possession well enough just cannot find that clinical edge. Then one mistake and we loose the game. James has been brought in as attacking coach and that seems to be where our issues are.
Played a game with the boys over a few brews where by we name of a football club and we went round naming a player past or present till we declared ourself out. Appreciate people can cheat using the Internet but what the hell
Overall a hugely entertaining game, i would have loved to have come out with a point however i cannot fault the swans. It was extremely hearty every player gave it there all and we did not make it easy for the former champions.
In terms of what we can improve, we need cover for full backs, jazz i thought did allright but there were some silly mistakes, i guess with game time he could become more solid but we don't have the luxury in the top flight to allow him to make them.
Good finish from Gomis and Siggy, could have had some more if it wasn't for Hart (fair play to him decent saves).
Our midfield looks strong, was surprised not to see Ki feature but it was lovely seeing LB7 making an appearance.
Montero terrorised zaboletta, Dyer was quiet and didn't net that sitter, for me i would give barrow a start at the Palace fixture.
Props to Freddie Fernandez today, had Ageuro on toast.
Fab - Made some good saves unlucky on the goals think from that range with the power toure got on it makes it difficult, wont let these mistakes change my thoughts on what has been an exceptional season for the Swans no.1
Finally Bony's goal, gutted to see him score but pleased he did not celebrate. Seemed like he got a good reception which he fully deserves.
So time for the team to pick the heads up and move on to the Palace game to sign off with a BANG
Pleased to beat them, they had that one coming for a while. Second half we made them look like a pub team. Worthy mentions for Dyer and JJS second half from what i saw they both played exceptionally
I have a sneaky feeling the Geordies might edge this one. My biggest concern after the Leicester game is where the goals are going to come from. We have enough quality in the midfield however no strikers with real quality also weak on full backs. I think it will be 2-1 Newcastle with Jonjo getting the Swansea Goal.
I am worried we will try to hold Newcastle, set up defensively and wont quite make the grade on the day.
Hopefully the boys will see this and set out to prove me wrong
I have been regularly following the planet swans forum and do enjoy a number of the threads and debates posted.
What i cannot understand is why people are so hostile to one another, personal attacks on users including people who contribute regularly and moderators ... why ?
I honestly have seen less petulance in a school playground. We are all Swansea city fans with opinions about the club we love regardless of geographical location, status in the forum, season ticket holders or Trust members. We should not be Verbally attacked for posting our thoughts and opinions, its what makes freedom of speech great.
Swansea is supposed to be a family club, is highly regarded around the UK and the world for this, however this forum doesn't feel very family like to me
A link for those to ponder, for me it is either the 2013-14 Centinary kit as we won the league cup and made me feel like we were Real Madrid, also quite partial to 1979-81
Also what happened in the Mid nineties .. terrible kit
Had his fair share of sceptics at the start of the season, tipped for relegation because of a lack of experience. Showing again what a great leader and manager he can be for Swansea City. The squad is strong and clearly back him which always instills the fans with confidence, however for me how he has adapted his personality when dealing with the media should be applauded. In the face of some serious adversity with terrible decisions has come across honest and humble, and is becoming more articulate by the week. Think the board have picked another gem here. Well done Garry good performance today keep up the good work
Although tonight is possibly the worst performance this season i think slating the team is not fair, Liverpool at anfield is always tough. We were off the mark today showed patchs of what we can do but not enough composure. Liverpool pressed hard and forced mistakes. We need to assess the issues and move forward. For me today ki Gomis and Fernández did ok the rest looked tired, the worrying part was how exposed we looked through the middle from counters. Leon and Bony were non existent. Have a word garry get some rest and let's go get qpr.
