| News Comment | Saints Expected To Start The Salisu Bidding at 16:25:13
I'd be surprised if we signed anybody now, given what I've just read on Sky Sports. You have to wonder, what sort of affect our lack of ambition , displayed by this "about turn" will have on our ability to keep the likes of Danny. I can't help but feel that Ralph is "towing the company line", particularly given he may feel obliged to do so, given that it wouldn't have been a surprise had he been fired after the 0-9 home defeat. |
| News Comment | Saints V Brighton The Verdict at 14:38:03
Fire Pellegrino and bring in Marco Silva. He almost kept Hull up last season with an inferior squad to ours and he was doing a decent job at Watford until his head was turned by Everton. Even if it's only until the end of the season and if he performs a miracle and keeps us up, look at offering him a longer contract. The Board has to do something now, keeping Pellegrino will end in relegation. Dirk Doone, you say Jack Stephens is a talented youngster learning his game. It takes many years to become a reliable central defender. Hoedt, on the other hand, has no such excuse. Well, it's fair to say Hoedt is still learning - he is younger than Jack Stephens. Yes, he gave away a penalty last night, but as Ian Wright said on Morden, it was a penalty, but he was unlucky. |
| News Comment | Southampton Make £17.5 Million Attacker Bid. at 13:24:08
What continually ticks me off about this whole striker situation is the reference to Manolo Gabbiadini's struggle for goals this season. How the hell is he supposed to score from the bench? If he'd been given half as much game time as the likes of Redmond, I'd put money on him scoring a few. How does Shane Long get the shout over him? I watched a game a little earlier in the season - I don't recall which one - in which Gabbiadini started. At some point in the second half, the commentator said he had seen Gabbiadini make seven or eight runs off the ball and not once did a Saints player attempt to pick him out! We've all seen what he is capable of, before he was injured towards the end of last season. Pellegrino needs to give him game time. Not fifteen or twenty minutes at the end of a match when we're chasing the game! |
| News Comment | Will Caceres Finally Make His First Team Debut At Spurs at 13:08:09
How does the saying go - "If you always do what you've always done, you always get what you've always had", i.e. continue to concede goals. Spurs, even without Kane, are dangerous going forward. If CP doesn't start MC soon, nothing will change at the back. Tough on whichever one of JS or MY is dropped as they both give 100%, but CP has to select the best players available to him. |
| News Comment | Sadio Mane Will Not Sign A New Deal And Will Force Move Say Media at 14:42:08
If the reports are true, assuming a decent offer is tabled, we should take it and get rid. It would seem from what is in the public domain that he has become a disruptive influence, although, of course, that may not necessarily be true. RK will no doubt be aware of all of this and will need to gauge his value to the club against any bad influence on the training ground and in the dressing room. I will be sorry to see him go and it would just be more of the trend we have seen in the last couple of years - players wanting to move on to "bigger and better" clubs. However, no player is bigger than the club. |
| News Comment | Dejan Lovren Penalty Miss ! A City Rejoices ! at 11:11:17
Whilst I was delighted to see Lovren send his penalty kick into orbit, I was a little disappointed that Liverhampton were knocked out. Had they progressed it would have meant more fixture congestion for them in the PL run in which could have been to our advantage. |
| News Comment | Saints Need This Rest Period at 12:31:16
Yes it would be great to have a decent cup run. However, this season finishing 4th is definitely more important. A Champions League place will improve our chances of retaining our top players and attracting players who otherwise may not be interested in signing for Saints. |
| News Comment | Saints Linked With Serie A Sensation at 15:31:01
Can't see it happening. Far too much for us to spend on one player, plus wages! More likely to attempt to sign this Jesus Corona kid from FC Twenty (?). |
| News Comment | Saints Fans Set New Record Time To Decide Scapegoat at 16:19:56
Lotus. It's all very well saying spend £45 million on a striker but 1 - who is available? 2 - who of that calibre would come to St Mary's? and 3 - we couldn't afford to pay the wages a player of that ilk would demand even if such a player was available We have to give Pelle a chance. I know the EPL is very different to The Eredivisie but RK must see something in the guy. |
| News Comment | Who Will Be Koeman's Top Targets ? at 10:53:43
The two players you mention would appear to be good acquisitions to strengthen the squad. Given that Dejan Lovren seems intent on a move I'm sure RK will also have the position of CB earmarked as area requiring at least one addition. Even if DL stays, we could still use another player in this position. Virgil Van Dijk at Celtic is known to RK and had a good season last time around, albeit against very average opposition. Exciting times ahead. |
| News Comment | Cork And Wanyama Both Out For Norwich Game at 10:22:39
I'd like to see Gaston given a start. I really don't feel he's been given a fair crack of the whip. We've only really seen a few glimpses of what I'm sure he is capable of. Norwich could just be the game? COYS |
| News Comment | Saints V Yeovil The Verdict at 15:31:36
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the match yesterday due to work commitments, although I listened to a fair amount of the game on Solent. So it's good to be able to hear what others have to say. There's been a lot said in recent days about the togetherness in the squad - that was clearly shown by the reaction of the players when the penalty was awarded and the responsibility handed to Guly. On the subject of Cork or Wanyama (when fully fit again), there could be places for both, at least until Dejan has recovered. I'm sure Wanyama played at CB a rew times for Celtic - a short term solution maybe? |
| News Comment | Time For Southampton Football Club To Unite at 12:07:17
Hmm. I wouldn't argue with what you have said. My biggest worry is that we could now see an exodus of much of the talent we have at St Mary's. Bear in mind that most, if not all, of the current squad arrived (or have signed senior contracts) under the reign of The Don. They would have bought in to the vision he had for Saints. With him gone will the club continue towards the realisation of that vision. Only time will tell. |
| News Comment | Out Of Their Depth ? at 18:43:58
I've been a Saints fan for more than 40 years and although we're on a bad run right now, it could be much worse. Let's not forget, we're only in our 2nd year back in the Premier League, where we 'arrived' 2 years ahead of NC's plan. Yesterday was pretty dire (defensively speaking) and the result against Villa was a freak, given the stats (possession, goal attempts etc). We've just come off draws away at Newcastle, where a lot of sides will lose and at home to MC (which with a little luck we could have won). However, it is fair to question the selection of JH and DF, neither of whom is up to the job. Would have thought Cork could have played at fullback and I prefer Yoshida to Hooiveld (at least he's a little quicker on his feet). PG is obviously not up to the job either - does anybody know much about Cody Cropper? Could he be any worse than Gazza? Jeering our own players during the match doesn't help one jot, so let's keep our moans to these pages. Keep the faith. Top 10 finish should satisfy us this season. UTS. |
