Anyone know any of the winners from missing years, there's nothing about it on the club's site, but they've referenced Dave Bruton as having won it as early as 73/74.
It's not like he's established himself over several years.
Nobody rated him at all at the start of last season, and he was our best player overall last season. It was only the one season though, working under clearly a very good manager, it's not the biggest surprise that he's dropped off.
Leroy's chatting absolute rubbish here. If he was reflecting on our time in the Prem, it may be plausible, but he says this was when he was 'leader'.
When he was captain, I struggle to believe that the seniors wouldn't speak to the younger players, given that the vast majority of our team had come from the U23's.
Giggs has put his player under an immense about of scrutiny and criticism with his idiocy.
All he had to say was that he passed all the necessary checks to continue playing, but now he's getting slaughtered by people who think he's feigned an injury as well as by people who think he was knocked out and is trying to cover it up to play against Liverpool next week.
Surely if we get rid of the Ayew's, Baston, Olsson, Narsingh, Montero, Bony and Tom Carroll then we should be back out of the red?
Keep the nucleus of the side, maybe one or two loans from Man. City or the likes (who would surely be keen to have their young players playing here after the cup game) to improve the depth and then maybe a free transfer or someone from the lower divisions and surely the wage bill wouldn't be too high?
used to play in blue and white, don't know why ... Now he plays in black and white, Barrie McKay Scoring goals for fun and I know why, Barrie McKay Barrie McKay Barrie McKay
Sigurdsson assisted 6 of Llorente's 15 goals, which was the highest amount of assists from one player to another in the league last season. The closest to them were Firmino to Mane, and Eriksen to Kane who both managed 4 assists.
Firstly, the claim that a 27 year old has no resale value is complete and utter rubbish. You'd have thought he was 33 or 34 with the way some people are talking on here. The reality is we're selling a 27 year old attacking midfielder for £50 million, and signing a replacement of his age in for half of that fee. That's not financially reckless.
Secondly, the claim that our club generates next to no income year on year is also complete and utter rubbish. Because of our Premier League status, we'll have an income of around £150 million this season before player sales. With the sales of Gylfi and Jack Cork factored in, we'll have an income of £200 million. Our Premier League status is vital to our income, and if bringing in a player like Viera can help us to retain that then he'll repay his fee in one season.
If you just watch us in pre season, it's clear that we're going to have a huge problem next season in terms of creativity. The only players in our teams seemingly capable of playing a decent ball are Tom Carroll and Martin Olsson, which just isn't enough for a Premier League team. If we don't bring in a creative player (or two) to replace Gylfi, Llorente isn't going to get any goals and we are going to go down.
We need to bring in the best player we possibly can in that role, regardless of the cost, and I'm shocked at the negativity towards the signing from the same people that would be criticising the owners for not putting there hands in there pockets if we were to bring in a £10 million replacement no better than what we've got.
The Man. City that spent roughly a combined £100 million on John Stones and Raheem Sterling and have spent big money on inadequate squad players because of their home grown status in recent years in Delph, Rodwell, Johnson, Sinclair?
Well he's not going to be coming here to play in our U23's. He might be third choice, but he'll be expecting football given that he would have been playing regular football in the Championship otherwise.
The reality was we needed a homegrown centre half, as we're desperately in need of fresh blood for home grown players. We were at seven home grown players before this, and in the next couple of years you'd think three of those players in Dyer, Routledge and Britton would be coming towards the end of their careers here.
We were limited in who we'd be able to bring in, and Mawson's one of the better we'd get without pushing the boat out.
What do you expect? The club to announce every little detail as it happens. Our fans are so petulant and needy, can't people wait a day for a transfer to go over the line. It's not as if him signing today rather than yesterday means all that much, Llorente will surely start at Burnley.
I saw that tweet, and it sounds like utter rubbish. He wouldn't have travelled to Swansea, and had/started his medical yesterday if we hadn't agreed the deal. The same twitter account were convinced he was off to Malaga.
