Agreed Pat, not that long ago this might have been a game the FA might have considered taking on the road and playing it at a large provincial stadium but not anymore as they can almost fill Wembley for a bronze category fixture on a Monday evening. As an aside, I was looking at the comparative values of the starting XI’s this evening, Latvia didn’t have a single player valued at €1m, in fact the entire starting XI were valued at a total of €4.9m in stark contrast to the value of England’s starting XI at €700m (that’s according to Flashscore). In fact, you could buy the entire Latvian starting XI with what some individual England players earn in less than a year! Whatever you do, don’t tell SR 😀 |

Missing a good night out if you’ve not been to Newcastle. Done a few Friday & Saturday nights up there when Saints have played Newcastle or Sunderland. One of go-to bars was Buffalo Joe’s which was a Western theme bar on the far side of the swing bridge, so technically Gateshead I suppose but easy walking distance from the Newcastle nightlife. The cow girl themed female bar staff used to all get up on the bar two or three times an evening a do a dance routine, great atmosphere in there and never a bad night out. Fond memories of some good away trips 🙂 [Post edited 23 Mar 16:22]

 | Forum Thread | Luxembourg beat Sweden at 22:02 22 Mar 2025
In a friendly international this afternoon, the mighty Luxembourg beat Sweden 1-0! The Swedish forward pairing of the PL’s Alexander Isac & Anthony Elanga with a combined value of over £130m could not score a single goal against one of international football’s Z listers! It wasn’t an injury time winner, Luxembourg scored midway through the first half. Sweden did sub both Isac & Elanga after 62 mins though… |

Agreed, the keepers carrying the ball over the line should be picked up on. Ah yes, The Dell, now that ground really was the true meaning of home advantage. There were plenty of visiting players who didn’t like the lack of space when taking a corner. For the years we had Matt Le Tiss fit and firing on all cylinders it was almost a double advantage as he had the skill to cope with the lack of space and still ping in a mean corner with no real run up, just a couple of steps. Talking of keepers, another thing you don’t see now is the keeper marking the pitch on the edge of the box. Peter Shilton and others used to walk out to the edge of the penalty box and mark the pitch in line with both posts by churning up the grass with their studs right through the white line. Shilton got booked just before KO by one ref at The Dell for doing it! The following home game he did it about 5 mins after KO when the action was up the other end of the pitch so the match officials were otherwise engaged! |

Re your last point about the ball being inside the quadrant when taking a corner, I am told that we have got some bright spark somewhere that has decided that the interpretation of the rule can be the same as the ‘whole of the ball over the whole of the line’ rule for a goal as we are used to seeing on the graphics used by goal line technology. This in effect means that if just 5% of the ball overlaps the outside 5% of the arc it is now legal. Apparently it has been raised at several meetings at County FA and FA level as in some quarters it is considered as tantamount to cheating. Be interesting to see if anything happens in the summer when they all have their AGM’s and maybe IFAB might be asked to look at it? Here’s an ex-pro’s take on the reason why it happens - you decide… https://www.sportbible.com/football/football-news/premier-league-corner-kick-law [Post edited 22 Mar 16:26]

And another three having thought about it., 1. Wi-Fi coverage inside the ground - put your bloody phones away and watch the game 2. Barbie pink away kit 3. Stewards who see what are clearly not Saints fans entering the home supporters only sections of the ground or who are inside home supporters only sections of the ground and do absolutely nothing about it [Post edited 18 Mar 19:26]

Players who open a small retail business on the high street in the town /city they play in or one nearby. A boutique was favourite choice, or a hairdressers for the missus to run. At one time x2 Chelsea players, a QPR player and a Fulham player all had boutiques in Fife Road in Kingston. Terry Mancini used to do a few afternoon shifts in his boutique so his manager could get a half day off. He’d also cover the manager’s summer holiday between seasons so he’d be working in there full time for a fortnight. |

Bugger… that didn’t work out, didn’t the pri@k Howe look soooo smug after the game? Still, I suppose it is amusing to see the self entitled YSB’s looking crestfallen. The barcodes on the 10pm news, my God, you’d think they’d just won the world frigging cup! Stilll, if it’s 70 years until the next time then it won’t be in any of our lifetimes. Truth be told, really didn’t want either team to win as the game I fell in love with is long gone and they are just two of the teams responsible for destroying it. |

That’s not what I am saying at all, I was simply replying to Southamptonfan’s post observing that IMO the huge shift in TD’s attitude is down to yet another agent who basically unsettles a player as much for said agent’s personal gain as any duty of care, so to speak, to genuinely look after the player’s best interests because a player who is happy at a.Club is every agent’s worst nightmare. I would never suggest we pay Dibling p’poor wages and let him rot - we did our level best to improve his lot considerably by all accounts and the only barrier to getting that done appears to have been the agency that represents him. That is the point I was making. |

Not disagreeing with your analysis but where has that attitude come from? In my opinion yet another scumbag agent / agency who ‘represent’ him. There has been a massive change in his attitude and approach in recent months that started to surface when Saints tried to reward TD with an improved contract but against normal protocol RM broke his silence to reveal the only barrier to getting it done was - surprise, surprise - the scumbag agent dripping the poison in TD s ear. The kid is lost to us now but if he takes his current attitude anywhere near his new employers if and when he doesn’t get his own way over something then a potential glittering career could hit the rocks. Personally I think this German agency representing TD are a bunch of 🤬 |

Ah yes, but we all have to all marvel at the distance these barcode disciples have travelled from that mythical land called ‘the north east’ to worship their Gods at Wembley. As for the numbers they will bring with them from their far away land they won’t get anywhere near the number of Saints fans at Wembley for the paint pot final v Carlisle. As for who wins it? Hate both Clubs, hate both sets of gobs@ite fans, can’t stand the s@it-pri@k Howe but Slot hasn’t offended me (yet) so I guesss on that basis, grudgingly, very grudgingly, Liverpool. Just to see Howe do his post-match interview (with the sound muted, naturally) with a face like a smacked arse 😀 |

With 130’s lack of ability to quote true facts, he’s skating on thin ice. Or in his case, a skate on thin ice 🥶 Has he done his lines yet? (Sniff) 🙂 |

Taking nothing away from the lad, but the Blackpool defending for Ballard’s goal make our back 3/4/5? look like world beaters! What was the guy on the line doing? And also the defender barging into Ballard ‘arse first’ which shows up best on the second replay. Comical. |

Yes it is, this got brought to my attention in the lead up to the Play Off Final at Wembley when there was lots of questions being asked, not by people looking to tout tickets but get them for other family members or friends and legitimately pass them on at face value. Even something as simple as taking an extra family member to the big occasion. I remember looking through the full club T&C’s plus the govt regs and it is draconian. I would guess there are multiple breaches of the regs every week at every PL and Championsip game up and down the country. Mostly harmless but as ever the minority (touts) spoil it for the rest of us. |
