| News Comment | Southampton V Millwall The Preview at 10:18:12
At the beginning of last season McCarthy was not deemed good enough and was at best second choice. Through injury McCarthy got back in the team at the very end of the season and did a good job. This does not alter fact that if he wasn't supposedly good enough this time last year for the Championship, what has changed to make him good enough for the Premier League a year later? As for Manning - get rid, way below what we need. |

Spine removed? No Bednarek, Stuart Armstrong, Adams then? You're entitled to your point of view Colburn, as am I. For me, Martin's done a good job, nothing more and I wish him every success for next season. |

Enjoyed reading that Matt, thanks. However, I think you’ve way overdone the hyperbole with regard to Martin. I admit, I don’t much care for the man, but he has done the job he was employed to do, so big kudos to him. But… Isn’t every club that gets relegated in complete turmoil? Saints are for from unique in that. Also, almost every relegated club has to face huge challenges in terms of the loss of players and recruitment. A big challenge for sure and which he overcame, (just) but that wasn’t an unreasonable expectation. In short, I would expect a very good manager to have got us promoted with the players and resources at his disposal at SFC. I’m not saying it was easy, far from it, but it is also far from a unique achievement. Much more impressive for me is the guy at Ipswich, but the bottom line is Russell did what he was employed to and and massive thanks to him for that. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Watford The Verdict at 12:50:59
Good report Nick .The bottom line is that we nearly (and needlessly) screwed up) and I have little or no faith in Russell 'Rylan' Martin at all. |

I couldn’t get a ticket for the Saints section so was in the North Stand with another Saints supporter. Difficult to hide the glee, but boy what a frothing mouthed bunch of Neanderthals they were. Racist as hell too. |
| News Comment | West Ham Pull Out Of James Ward Prowse Pursuit at 09:26:04
If he’s been to the West Ham training facilities (which I often pass on the train) he won’t have been impressed. Compared to the set up we have theirs looks distinctly second rate… |
| News Comment | Saints Need To Connect With Their Fans With Managerial Appointment at 13:45:00
This is a potential deal breaker for me. I probably won’t renew if this mediocre selection happens. Instead I will pick and choose just a few matches next season, if any. This from someone who’s not been a local for decades, but has had a season ticket throughout, travelling thousands of miles each season. As for the current owners, I can never understand how a club with our geographic location, infrastructure and fan base cannot attract a real owner of substance. |
| News Comment | Southampton Take A Big Leap Of Faith With Ruben Selles at 12:22:37
The jury is out for me, but I'd prefer him to a has-been like Allardyce (although I would have taken Dyche or Potter had they been available). Leeds is an acid test whereas Chelsea was something of a free pass as nothing was really expected there. Good luck to the guy - at least he looks the part (Unlike his immediate predecessor!). |

I take issue with your point 4. Fareham is not all blue few (and I'm not just talking about the Tories here). Could this area not be treated like Berlin after WW2, with parts designated as a 'special zone' for those who follow the righteous path to St Marys? |

I’d be sad to see Romeu go, he’s been great for us and can still provide something. Likewise Redmond who gets unfair stick at times. As for the rest, sincere thanks and good luck for the future. I’d most like to see McCarthy go though - I’ve never rated him. |
| News Comment | My 50th Year Anniversary Of Watching Saints Today at 10:58:51
Great report Nick. I’m a bit behind you but with many similar memories, albeit I was a neutral when I first went in the 70s. Moving to a school in PortsMouth soon changed that and my personal very costly (in terms of cash AND emotion!) addiction began. Hope you enjoy today! |
