He's been excellent recently. His work rate and pace improve us hugely as a team. His end product is the only criticism of him. I genuinely believe that if he could consistently improve his decision making and end product then he would be a 8-10 million pound winger. | | | |

Heās a hard working decent player but he has too many limitations and until last 3-4 games his return on goals and assists was awful. Infact probably even bad return on his chances created
Last few games this has improved and this is a confidence thing and hopefully some coaching but letās take it one at a time as I still donāt see him getting more
Than 5 goals a season or bucket loads of assists
Having said all above - he is top lad and plays his heart out for qpr so I would have him in [Post edited 1 Jan 20:31]

Paul Smyth is a much better player than Jamie Mackie! Mackie ran around, but had little quality. Smyth has pace and has come on a huge amount under Marti. His final product is so much better but still has plenty to do with his finishing. But he has pace which Mackie simply never had. Never got why some of our fans loved Mackie. Not for me. |
Mackie scored important goals at important times throughout his time with us. Smyth has Mackie's work ethic but how many times have we needed him to score at vital times? That Warnock side was different gravy.
Superb today though. He's definitely improving. |  |

Heās up there with our best players this season: always available, gives 100% every game and runs himself into the ground.
No winger gets every cross right but for opposition defenders he must be a nightmare to play against as heās so direct.

In the form of his life at the moment, but is evident in the last few weeks is that he has gone from bombing down the wing and banging it in to an area to slowing down at the right time and raising his head to pick someone out. Always worked hard, carries the ball well but you would guarentee there would be nothing at the end of it, or missed the right opportunity. Needs to keep it going now. Other teams hate playing against him. You notice the difference when he comes off. He's the epitome of that pundit's cliche that he keeps the defenders honest, which I've never really understood but think means they can't take risks when he's on the pitch. |  | | |

If fit he's a guaranteed starter at present, and I didn't think that would be the case when he came back. He's our only player with proper pace, but now he's making good, well timed runs and the likes of Dunne, Ashby, Morgan and Varane are putting it in the right places for him to run on to. He won't score or assist every time but his numbers are improving week by week, and the help he gives his full back is immense. | | | |

Good shout. Just needs a few more goals to really start looking like him but my god he is a vastly improved player these days. At 27 he is a fantastic example to the younger players whilst still be very young himself. |  |

We sit front row on Ellerslie and he was livid with himself when that goal went in. 2 minutes later heās settled Sam up.
Speaks volumes to his character and attitude. He took full responsibility AND went about putting in right.

He laughed about it in the interview saying he probably had 2 assists today but was delighted we won of course.
He was a bit angry at himself for not scoring on that second half chance but I did not see it yet (paging Boston) so cannot comment .
He was very predictable taking the ball straight to the corner flag then unleashing wild crosses early in the season but now he appears to be cutting inside and causing sheer panic for defenders resulting in more clear chances.

Compare Smyth with the greatest winger in the history of the world, Dave Thomas. No, no way youāre all shouting but donāt forget that Thomas was crossing to Givens, Francis and Bowles. The understanding between those players was almost telepathic. Weāre beginning to see an understanding between Smyth, Field and Dunne. Good strikers donāt stand still they have go to meet the ball and arrive at the right place at the right time. Be great if Smyth and Frey could work out something between them and young Kolli knows where the goal is. |  |

Pacey players always grab the eye, and he's an easy character to like -- I've always liked him anyway.
And he has definitely become an important player for us, the out ball to Smyth is important. It's been a good season for him, and hopefully he can stay injury free and add some more goals and assists. His crossing has definitely improved which is great to see.
The area he still needs to work on is composure and decision making when he's running in to the area. If he could add that he'd firmly be a very good player.
Edit. A big determinant of how effective he'll be in any given match is how easily the ref will buy the foul if Smyth sticks his bum out, takes the knock and falls over arms out š [Post edited 2 Jan 5:29]
