Vigouroux error and again the Swans fail to score on 13:12 - Oct 28 by RichardO | Saturday's result was because we were desperate to win the game and over committed players making us suspectible in defence people have been saying we been good in defence I would counter that to some extend as I think the teams we have played against have been poor in their finishing and when teams set their team up to attack us, more so on the counter attack we have given away clear cut chances which Vigouroux has dug us out of a hole a number of times Saturday a better finish and all points lost Think finding the balance of defence and attack with Grimes sitting in the middle has been a very differcult one for the mangers to get to grips with and most would say with him keeping further up the park we have looked better, we have seen when Allen and Even Naughton in the team they seem to drag him further forward. With Franco now fast becoming the better defensive option playing and quicker and sharper allowing us to get the ball forward rather having to rely on Allen. I thought we got the ball to Key in good positions but the choices he makes when deep in getting the ball forward quicker are questionable let the ball do the work where possible instead of running with the ball letting a team get back into their defensive shape. I really think he is one of our better players but he is not getting the ball out to Ronald quick enough to cause defenders problem making Ronald have to receive the ball and have to take the defender from a standing start. The goal on Saturday came from a mistake, if we don't play in a fashion to cover for mistakes and having players fast enough and in position to cover in the midfield as our full backs push on wer in trouble, Grimes is not our better defensive option now that is Franco. |
Made the point myself about the slow ball to a static Ronald in the past. He needs to hit the ball at speed. Totally agree with us not being as defensively great as our stats may suggest. Good keeping and bad finishing as you rightly say has kept the GD respectable.

The goal was in the 90th minute and we were pushing for the winner as people would expect at home, complaints would be made if we didn't. A mistake by our normally reliable keeper and we were caught short at the back. Shite happens and we move on.

I agree but when shite keeps happening then you have to question tactics. Saturday they very rarely looked troubled but you have to cover for mistakes Martin's team didn't Coopers did. One struggled for goas lfor and one didn't but couldn't defend. Think Williams is stuck between the two wanting to play like Martin but knowing with the team he needs to play like Cooper for me the problem is how they both all have used Grimes. Potter's team seem to get his use of him right. Please don't use the excuse of the league positions with regards to Potter because his teams could not defend set pieces losing numerous point. We have a settle back four the first time in three season and yet we don't use them as such when needed. As I said I agree we would expect to push forward but maybe that just highlights the weaknesses we have in defence, not the players but the tactics.

I'm not prepared to knock Williams for Saturdays result. He tried two up front that many have been asking for, he tried something different. We didn't have another forward to come on when they tired. One could have argued that Wilson should have been on the bench but that is another discussion, he's not a real number 9 although he scores goals he more right of attack. We had enough shots to put the game away before the 90th minute but we didn't. Throughout the game we pushed forward and rarely looked troubled, it was just a mistake as I have said. Did we really want defenders/midfielders sitting deep going into added time, no. It was just a mistake and we got caught that didn't look like happening previously in the game.

Vigouroux’s distribution can be hit and miss, there were a few in the game that didn’t hit their mark. Therefore, at that stage of the game he shouldn’t be playing those sorts of passes out when there’s a good chance of giving away possession. It was a big mistake but we can’t criticise because he’s saved us too many times this season. He’ll know though!

More hit than miss UJ. Shame it was he who gifted the chance I’m hoping our “ coach” filling his head with crap as normally he does the right thing . One could say Cullen lost us the game with those pitiful, attempts he had . We are in real poo of the academy lads are no better than him. That was the worst cF display I’ve seen in years

Maybe R, but it was too risky a play at that stage in the game. You play safe at that stage, he didn’t.

Again agree with most of your points that we seemed in control in the game I thought we deserved all three points and were worth it. Franco as seen before helping Grimes out greatly, as been mention previous posts Key is one of our best players he seems to doing things that don't make sense at times and it is not helping get the best out of Ronald as a full back with an understanding with a winger should but we have seen Key push up closing Ronald's space to soon not play a simple down the wi game pass straight down the wing , drift infield and get lost in the congestion these are all things being asked of him, believe it or not this is not having a go at the manager or the fullback as both have tried different things to get things right, the trouble is as fans we have seen the same mistake being repeated when using Grimes in a defensive role by many managers. In some respects there is method in what we are trying to do but at the moment it seems very rigidy in which ever styles or tactic we use. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The ball he played out on 90 mins which didn’t hit his mark, was intercepted easily and resulted in their winning goal. It was a long kick trying to find Tymon (?) who was then well out of position when the ball didn’t reach him. Doing similar in the first half or up to 70 mins gives us time to get back into the game if it goes wrong. On 90, there’s little chance.

Vigouroux error and again the Swans fail to score on 21:44 - Oct 28 with 320 views | TrallwnJAC | I’ve said it a few times, maybe not here but on jackarmy.net We have an international keeper who can only kick off his right foot, at this level you’d expect a keeper to be able to play off both/clear the ball with both feet. The amount of times we’ve nearly been caught out because he’s limited in his kicking ability is beyond IMO. Just watch his feet next game Oxford if you’re going/watford if not, and tell me I’m wrong.

He has very little back lift when he strikes the ball so gets it away quite sharply. I'm happy to stick with him as our number one. A mistake is a mistake every play makes, them as a team you try and have cover for them. Many players get away with loads goalies and strikers get called out on them, same as Platino because so late in the game the mistake can be telling in the final result.

Why the keeper, why can't all high level footballers kick with both feet? Our captain is very one footed. What is the reason our keeper has to be the exception when so many pro footballers are one footed? Being one footed shouldn't be the issue, judgement and choices should be questioned. If there wasn't a safe pass then use your good foot and wang it into touch. It used to be a basic thing, protect the net at all costs, do the wise thing. If you're going to take chances, do it in the oppo penalty area, not in your own. All too often we do it in reverse.
