Grimes Beef 23:55 - Aug 26 with 4290 views | GVJack | What is it about Matt Grimes that gets so many negative comments. I hold my hand up, I'm one of the supporters who is seemingly frustrated by him, but struggling to really pinpoint why. This is a player who should be edging on club legends status and have a statue outside the stadium. He's been with us nearly 10 years (in January) and is going into this fith year as captain. He's fit as a fiddle and clearly takes care of his body through being a professional athlete. Every time I hear him speak he seems like a very mature and well respected guy representing the club professionally and with maturity. Yet Despite all this I still have this yearning to see him moved out of the team. I don't know if that's because :- A) he's a victim of his own versatility and is told play numerous roles by numerous managers B) he's a victim of the 'Swansea Style' and isn't suitable to play the way we have wanted to play over the last 3-4 years in particular. C) He's just not that good? (We did sign him from League 2 after all) It's just an enigma I can't quite get my head around. I want to love him... But can't (but I do massively respect him). Grimes Beef on 13:05 - Aug 27 by onehunglow | He is That our erstwhile coaches see and saw him as pre - eminent is the reason why we are struggling to progress I honestly believe other coaches praise is pyss taking as they are simply setting him up and our fans . Nobody has truly wanted to buy him. That says it all. I read it’s because he loves the city. Bren said that too yet offskied when it suited asap. Grimes is a very lucky boy indeed It is our club that matters not him. I pray we have the guts to flog him |
Right. So the five managers we’ve had since being in the Championship all play him every game and that’s because they all happen to be a bad judge of player, despite being professional football managers (two of them got their next side promoted and one is in the running for the England job) Opposing managers praise him because they are all in on some secret joke to praise Grimes to take the piss. Amazing set of coincidences hey? Can you name a midfield trio available to any of those managers that would justify leaving him out? Nobody else has been able to.

Grimes Beef on 11:08 - Aug 27 by Treforys_Jack | I feel he has suffered due to the pairings he's consistently been with. Put him with a decent forward thinking partner and leave him do what he does brilliantly and we'd prob all be lauding him. The fact that he's also our deadball specialist also does him no favours at all. |
Downes was a forward thinking midfielder until he found it was better for him and the team if he did the defensive work. Grimes has been removed from set play specialist duties by most of our recent managers but then being put as last man at our àttacking corners only for the same managers to realise he can't do it either and relieve of that duty. Luke hasn't learnt these lessons yet but does realise that pace is need as last man at set pieces. [Post edited 27 Aug 14:56]

Grimes Beef on 09:27 - Aug 27 by lifelong | Why have our previous 4 or 5 managers failed to see all the faults that Matt Grimes has and dropped him from the starting eleven? |
I've no idea though those 4 or 5 managers have been during the period of our gradual decline, maybe theu're not really that good as managers? Maybe better managers would get a better tune out of Grimes? Maybe managers who didn't believe hgh possession stats are the most important thing would provide more entertaining football? Grimes is clearly a talented footballer but only really suited to being put on at 2 nil up to play keep ball. My opinion obviously.

I think we’ve “ discussed “this before but you became rather personal Grimes ,wait fir it, strangles most opportune attacking chances A midfielder who runs backwards to pass the ball sideways . Meanwhile the opposition chortles and gets organised Name me a manager who has seriously pursued Grines Better still, don’t .

Without doubt better managers would Most would stop him going anywhere near our own box and leave defenders to do their job . None of our last three have been really good Martin will not see the season out at Soton when they realise they’ve been sold a kipper ,as we were . Stats are meaningful only for statisticians What’s a “ completed pass” ffs l This is a stat

"Martin will not see the season out at Soton" ... You said the same last season?? - You maybe right one season. "Every season you say we'll be relegated" - you maybe right one season. "You say every new manager is crap - (You were right about Duff😂) Yet these crap managers have gone on and managed 5 Premier League clubs, and one is favourite to be the next England manager!!

Yeah, the premier league money will kill them 😂 He’s rubbish is Martin, got a team up from the championship that backed him at the first attempt. Sold a kipper, are yours going off 😂 This won’t fall into the unusual Martin baiting.

Maybe Maybe I’m amazed You never know, opinions really can be expressed openly n here without attracting crap. I challenge anyone not groaning when Grimes has the ball and a quick riposte is on,because he does and will kill momentum. Moreover ,he has a very good left foot so why stroke the ball sideways at free kicks tweety yards outside the box

In fairness we should have reached the play offs under Martin, and when you look back now, yes Cooper failed but look where those Brentford players are now

I can’t remember that. Come on then, give me your best midfield combination, since relegation, that doesn’t include Grimes. I expect you’ll either deflect or ignore completely.

Martin, like other managers, needed better players to suit hs style. We were never to succeed with his style and our then squad. That's why he was a bad manager here, he could have done better with what he had as the two good patches showed. It's the same wih Grimes, he should never be our last man in defence, he shouldn't be running back 20 yards between our centre backs to play a 5 yard wall pass and leave us stranded on the edge of our own box. What we are talking about here are simple tactical mistakes that are easily rectified yet a succesion of managers have failed to even notice the trouble we cause ourselves, why is that?

How would anyone know it has almost never been tried? Cup games maybe, not even in Martin's myriad of chopping and changing of the team, think it might have been done in one game maybe coming off or on in a game but cannot remember which one it was.did we end up with Paterson, Fulton and Cooper🤷♂️

Any permutation of our "best midfield" would contain Grimes. When he's on his game. That's the key point. When he plays like he did on Saturday we could easily have replaced him with Fulton, Allen or Abdulai and been no worse off and potentially better. He is absolutely assured of his place in the team regardless of his performances and the effect on the team that poor ones have. That is not a healthy situation and any manager who has gone along with it is culpable.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

As I predicted above, deflection. It’s hard to be humble when you can’t back your opinions up when asked a sensible question.

I think there was one game he was suspended. That might be the one you’re referring to. You’ve answered your own question with your last sentence. Paterson. Fulton and Cooper. Put him in the promotion squad with Allen, Britton, Pratley and Dobbie and he doesn’t get near the team.
