England 19:00 - Jun 6 with 810 viewssaint22

I really don’t care that much but if do find it odd Southgate left both Maddison’s nd grealish out the squad - all England managers seem to be afraid of flair players for years now it’s weird
Would Brazil Spain France have left both those players out?

I dont understand how Branthwaite isn’t in the squad, biased and all that, but he’s streets ahead of Dunk regardless of his age. There’s tons of attacking options but the defence and midfield looks light.

Eze in Grealish out.
Grealish has had a poor season.
Eze has been fantastic.

Maddison a flair player?
Again, even he has come out and said he’s been poor this season since he came back from injury.

Wharton and Mainoo in. The future.

Defence worries me. Yet again.

Against the better sides we may have a problem.

Kevin Keegannewcastle approach of outscoring and you win!

To be fair, we don't have a gifted set of defenders so I think the squad looks like we'll play to our strengths and be attack minded more than southgate sides have historically done so.

Yeah well that’s exactly why I was cautious about dropping Maguire. As we’ve got Stones yeah, but we need another decent centre half to be with him, and it’s not like we’ve got Terry or Ferdinand anymore, so as much as Maguire hasn’t been the best for Man U, he’s never really cocked up for England and like Pickford has proven Southgates faith in them worthwhile.
As Stones and Maguire I think would’ve been our best pairing, and the fact that Maguire won’t even be on the bench is where I’m cautious as I do wonder as to who will be our other main centre half for this Euros…

Guéhi pays very well as the left sided Centre Back.

Konsa has had an excellent season for Villa who are now a Champions League team compared to Maguire and Man United.

People have moaned about Maguire’s inclusion in the England team and are now moaning about his exclusion!!
Make your mind up!!

Kyle Walker can and has played as CB in a three.

He is injured.

Some did yes, but I’ve always defended him for how he’s been for England as I can’t remember him messing up once in any proper England games, and that’s why I’ve always seen him as a fair selection for the squad.
And yeah Konsa has been decent, but does he have that experience or the same presence Maguire did? And Guehi I don’t rate as highly, so would certainly prefer Maguire over him. But still hopefully we can show in the euros that attack is the best form of defence!

But anyway from what I’ve heard he’s injured, so that’s why he’s been left out.

Isn't there some up and coming young lad captaining the Eng u21 side and been an integral part of 2 successive promotions to The PL , who might have been worth a punt🧐

I don't understand the negativity toward England.
Southgate gets endless stick. Half of it is because he's seen as negative in situations where we should really attack. And half because he's seen as being "woke" which is frankly stupid.

I actually think he's picked a pretty good squad this time. It's not his fault we are not blessed with fantastic defensive options and you could argue with a few selections but broadly he's ditched the old guard and picked on form which everyone was crying out for.

I'm not his greatest fan but under him we have got to a final and a WC semi which didn't look likely for years and years before that. I'm baffled by some fans who "don't care about England" or the scousers that think they are some separate country.
Some of my best football moments have been the summers of Euros or WC where the whole country gets behind the team and we've won some great games.
We seem to have a lot of talent now and there's no reason we can't do really well. Who wouldn't love getting to another final and dare I say it, even win it.
For years I never thought we'd ever win anything so I'm glad I'm not on of those people who almost want England to fail. I'll be out drinking and celebrating, it would be epic!
