Was really sad when I heard this yesterday. he was a proper winger, could cross or shoot with either foot and off the pitch, he was never scared to give his opinion. Watching him (and his partnership with Jimmy) down our left was always a thing of joy.
Great memories of the man. That Preston away trip/match will live long in the shell...he was a proper winger, who could always magic something when needed. RIP.
That bit where Savage said to Leighton you weren't the greatest of players FME's, thick as mince with no sense of awareness and him coming out with if I played against you I'd kick you up in the air, just proves my point.
I will say though for someone as limited as he was he's managed to make himself a wealthy man, with his own TV programs etc.
As a player he wasn't fit to lace Leighton James's boots!

Preston is one of those ingrained memories, I was there with 2 friends, we were all 12 and stood down at the front of the terrace right behind where Leighton's shot hit the net. One of those friends, Alan, died when he was 19, the other one went to Australia to live and I never heard from him again.
So many happy memories from my younger days are built around the football. Leighton was part of the team that gave us top flight football for the first time, I think maybe he knew how much joy he brought to us.
Reading the Clarets forum he did just the same for them, maybe even more so.

I make bo appologies for repeating this but I've said it on here a number of times in the past and reiterated it to Leighton a number of times also. In Spain I got to know an old gent from Burnley who was very knowledgeable about football. He loved Leighton. He went on to say that there are a generation of men in the Burnley area who have Leighton James as their middle names. What a great legacy. Being brutally honest with you Leighton- RIP
