The job loss figure of 3000 jobs was across the UK not at Port Talbot. Without the subsidy all 4000 jobs at Port Talbot would be loss as well as another 4000 in the UK supply train.

It is simple modernise or die as an industry. It has always been madness that Port Talbot has has to import foriegn coal while Drakeford's Labour have stopped all coal production in Wales.

Has to happen but it's a bit of a curates egg.

This was originally planned about 18 months ago but Boris pulled the plug.

Half the Tata sites that will benefit from this investment are in England.

Hopefully the Celtic Freeport in NPT will provide more jobs than those that will be lost at the steelworks. Hopefully safer and cleaner jobs too.

It’s very strange, he must scour the news on a daily basis and any bad news coming out of Wales he’s on it in a flash.
There must be an underlying reason for it?

Well he's a tory supporter!

That said we should all be moaning when the Senedd creates conditions that bring bad news.

Wales deserves better.

On a similar note there are those who must scour the news looking for bad news about the UK...that's allowed too because the UK also deservs better.

That Lord West said in parliament that its a must should this county ever (perish the thought) go to war. He was Royal Navy chief and I guess he must appreciate that miliary hardware production requires loads of steel like his ships did.

It’s very odd.

Felixstowe’s MP is Thérèse Coffey, Secretary of State for the environment who has been in charge while the rivers and seas have had effluent pouring into them and not a word.

Had a pop at Welsh Water, mind.

Of course, we should accept different opinions, I’m not suggesting otherwise . But when a person defends the indefensible and will not accept that what they believe in utterly may be flawed then that’s an issue isn’t it . I’d say the same for Plaid and Labour zealots too . Simple.

Disagree. The massive majority on here can see the good and bad in all, even if politically they are on one side or the other.

A very small number point blank refuse to criticise the party they support.

That’s what makes this such a good forum.

Have you read the STORY.

Two quotes from STORY

It could mean 3000 job losses across UK.

Under photo is says TATA employs 3000 at Port Talbot.
If all 3000 jobs were lost at Port Talbot it would mean the closing of Port Talbot.

I do wish people would read all it before telling people they are wrong.

A good news story for Wales yet people still complain.

Not like WOL to highjack the BBC story then make the assumption that all the job losses will be in Wales. WOL ceased to have any credibility or journalists years ago ago.

Except for Drakeford. I just can’t see any point in him. Put him out to graze.

Other than that, yes, completely agree.

Sadly, I don’t think either Wales or the UK, has had a particularly strong leader, or leader of the opposition, for quite some time.

From the story...

The giant Port Talbot steelworks is to be converted to run on electricity, Tata Steel has confirmed. It means a high degree of uncertainty over the future of as many as 3,000 jobs.j

Unions have raised concerns that 3,000 jobs will be lost at Port Talbot as part of the process as electric arc steelmaking, which involves recycling previously used steel instead of making 'virgin steel', needs fewer staff. There are also concerns about jobs at downstream plants in Trostre, Llanelli,

Barrie Evans, a community representative at Port Talbot steelworks who has worked there for 29 years said: "I’d imagine the government are going to try and spin it as a good news story but unfortunately at a human side, we can’t see any good news side of it when we’re losing thousands of jobs potentially."

The plant at Port Talbot directly employs around 4,000 workers

But there are plenty of things to be worried about with this deal. Most importantly, thousands of people could lose their jobs as a result of this plan. Bluntly, making steel in this way doesn’t need as many people as are currently working in Port Talbot. One example of this is that electric arc furnaces start with the raw material of steel in the first instance, removing a significant section of the steelmaking process (from iron ore to steel). Initial estimates are that 3,000 people could leave the site as a result of the installation of arc furnaces.

Now I didn't read all the way to the end but don't those quotes show that you may have read it but you are still wrong? There are real worries that 3000 Port talbot jobs could be lost.
YThis may be good news for TATA and for their profits but it's not really good news for the people of Port Talbot who will lose their jobs and any jobs lost at the steelworks will also end up with jobs lost further down the line

That is assuming the WOL haven't twisted it

Cat it's not only the 3,000 jobs directly related to the steel works, but estimates say you can more than double that locally with associated job losses.
