Swansea city centre on 22:07 - May 23 by Togg | It's not. It's a Labour voting town first and foremost. With a sprinkling of Conservativism. Talk about being blind. You're the most blinkered, not particularly bright poster on here. If it were a so called Indy town Plaid ( the party of independence) would be romping all the elections. 6000 marching. It's not particularly great is it. Although it was very colourful and there were some nice flags. |
Exactly. Its the labour voters in Wales who will deliver Indy. ‘In August 2020, a YouGov poll showed that 39% of Welsh Labour voters would vote for independence "if there was a referendum tomorrow". The Welsh Governance Centre also showed that in the last Senedd election over 40% of Labour voters supported independence’. This is a movement. Its bigger than Plaid. Its bigger than the welsh language. Glad you liked the flags … ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿

Not quite true, Tref but support for indy has definitely dropped. https://www.itv.com/news/wales/2023-05-22/welsh-independence-has-considerable-mo 20% support indy but 54% would vote for the union with the other 26% not voting, not knowing how they'd vote or refusing to answer. 20%, after all their efforts and hyperbole just 1 in 5 support indy.

1 in 5 now is significant. Add the impact of a free Scotland and a united Ireland into the mix then we are going to very close. The demographics also plays out to Indy advantage. Our young people have confidence in themselves. Tick tock … â°

Latest prediction for Scotland at the next election predicts Labour will take more seats than the SNP. As much chance of Scotland independence as there is of Cardiff winning the champions league

Yes, maybe a a case of I rather than when. However, the world will be a completely different place before Wales gets its independence. And the use if the word freedom is an insult to those who live in a great many countries across the globe. If you really want to bleat about a lack of freedom, go live in North Korea for a start plus a whole host of other countries. You’ll then realise that you’re as free as a bird living in the UK. Rattled Kilky says young people blah, blah, blah but young people get old, they learn lessons, they change their minds, their politics. 40% of labour voters, that's about 180,000 people which is what, 7-8% of Welsh people. The majority of Welsh people think the Senedd has handled most things badly, besides the corona virus response, 54%support the union. Suck it up fellas, if it does happen it won't be in any of our lifetimes.

You could be correct, the next 10 years will be interesting. The war generation definitely have sense a Britishness that the post war generations lack. So although the young will grow old, they will never share that sense of Britishness. So yes Indy is inevitable - and its just a matter of when, not if. You do seem very rattled on this one.

It’s a dream,a sentimental trap for the inward looking . It’s borne out of hate, envy and bigotry although it’s always denied . They want to keep Wales pure .

What arrant nonsense. 18 million were British enough to watch the coronation of British Monarch ON TV as well as 2 million who attended the event. In comparison 3,000 people from all over Wales attended the independence March in Swansea. Independence is unlikely in the next 100 years and even more unlikely if Wales ever did gain independence They would surrender it to the undemocratic EU.

As it stands, why on earth would the EU take on Wales? Can’t see the member states looking for another mouth to feed.

It is assumed Scotlan and Wales would be allowed to join the EU. Now,Wales voted leave. Valleys most so. What currency would they use ?It’s possible the BoE would not allow an independent Wales to use the English pound as currency. How can Indys reconcile using English currency . Sadly and obviously, they haven’t thought this through mainly as hate clouds their judgement Wales will never break away as the people have more sense .

I wouldn't say they learn their lessons, I think in most generations by the time people hit 40 or so they have a house, savings, investments etc and they therefore favour status quo as to not rock the boat with the wealth amassed. Add to that most people care very little for others and it becomes self interested politics. Might not happen, maybe a smaller chance that it does, but still a chance i suppose.

Well as labour only got 39% of the vote in the last election that means only 15% of voters I Wales would vote for independence. You can add in 10% from PC snd you might manage to get 25% of the TOTAL of ALL voters in Wales might vote for independence a figure thst has not changed in the last 50 years.

Most people once they reach 40 realise socialism does not work. Socialist policies kill ambition, reduce everyone to the same poor level. Success means more wealth for everyone which means more money can be spent on public services like the NHS and provide the extra billions to pay for those who cannot or will not work.
