Anyone explain to me why the Trust is not increasing its shareholding in the club or discussing greater fan involvement at the club?

If you're not already I'd suggest becoming a member and then asking the trust directly.

My thoughts are fan ownership is great to a certain degree but it's similar to the topic of having the dale trust in the board, they no longer become an independent voice for the supporters because they are part of the club. I would be in favour of the trust increasing its shares in the club if it was to help maintain control over ownership as protection I suppose but wouldn't ever want the trust to be in the board or be a controlling influence.

It's possible for a club's Trust to play a defining role. The best example I can think of is Exeter City:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exeter_City_Supporters%27_Trust

Interestingly Exeter's Trust were set up because "it soon became obvious that the directors of the club only saw the Trust as a "cash cow" and had no intention of giving up any real power or allowing any insight into how the club was being run."

Their ethos is great - "To make Exeter City an outstanding community-owned club, playing football at the highest sustainable level"

We could do worse as a club to have a similar ethos.

The Trust can only do what its members want. Last year they conducted a survey. Barely 20% of the members responded and just over 10% said they wanted the Trust to buy more shares. At the AGM in December conducted via Zoom, barely 30 fans turned up.

How are trust members being contacted and informed of these events, surveys etc? I've been a trust member for some time now and can't remember being contacted by them about anything, ever.

The other way of reading that report is that increasing the shareholding was voted to be the second highest priority.

Of course. And I voted for that too at the time. But the OP wanted to know why the Trust wasn't buying shares. The answer is that it doesn't have the mandate from members or the cash to do it

The message board is fragmented. A small vocal minority want action to be taken with the Board, BBM and the CEO. But most fans don't seem to show interest in what is happening. As I see it, unless we unite and garner support for the direction of travel nothing will change. And the Trust should be the best route

I get e mails from them as monthly-ish newsletters and was definitely informed about the last AGM and Zoom quiz nights. Get in touch with them at info@daletrust.co.uk or visit the website https://www.daletrust.co.uk/
