We cant leave swansea unless for work or health reasons. Welsh Tories trying to make out this is anti English when it isn't it's about same rules for all high areas. These prats will only boost the yes cymru movement

Talking of National infection rates is a bit misleading, in Liverpool it’s very high while in places like Cornwall it’s very low. Drakeford is not stopping all English, Irish or Scottish visitors to Wales, he’s only stopping those visitors from the areas where there are higher rates of Covid, in England thats the Tier 2 and Tier 3 areas. There are gaps in the law which Drakeford is seeking to close. I wouldn’t blame the English government one bit if they introduced legislation to prevent residents from high rate areas in Wales such as Merthyr entering England much the same as residents from Merthyr can’t travel to Tenby. My take on this is that Boris is trying to balance the competing needs of the Country and the internal politics of his party. Edit typo [Post edited 14 Oct 2020 20:05]

Indeed. It’s doesn't make sense that someone returning from a holiday in a Covid19 hotspot has to quarantine but someone living in an area of the England where there is a high incidence of Covid (potentially higher than some of the countries on the quarantine list) is free to travel to Wales and take a holiday. The economy needs to be open, but in a sensible manner. Boris has dissension in his camp and is trying to keep his party on side. I get the impression he’s not particularly keen on making unpopular decisions. [Post edited 14 Oct 2020 23:01]

Labour's is in total disarray about what should be done. Starmer 2 week total lockdown everywhere. Drakeford much longer lockdown in most of Wales. Liverpool's labour mayor complaining that tier 3 lockdown is so unfair. Manchester's labour mayor threatening legal action if tier 3 lockdown is introduced in Manchester despite the virus being out of control, while Drakeford is banning anyone from Liverpool or Manchester visiting Wales.

Drakeford man up on 09:46 - Oct 13 by Catullus | I'll take Faye every time thank you, you can keep Ian if you like him so much Now I think we need to protect the economy too but if Drakeford believes he can and should close the border, why is he fannying around like a limp lettuce? Maybe it's because he is. He's a lame duck. If there are rules in England that say don't leave your area and people are travelling out of their area to Wales then the police can and should step in. The police have powers and should act, like they did in Norwich, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-54511643 Like they apparently have with people travelling out of area to MacArthur Glen too. It doesn't matter if I agree with Drakeford or not, if he believes he should do something and he's given Bojo a warning, then he should act. If he's not strong enough then he should step down and let someone who is strong take over. At this point I'd take Liz Saville-Roberts or Drakeford! THough I wouldn't take Gething, he's just as useless. |
Drakeford has the power to close the borders if he likes. Just as he had the power to introduce lockdown sooner in March if he wanted. His problem is that he wants Johnson to do it for him so he can dodge the blame for any downside and point the finger at the dastardly English. It's fairly obvious what he's doing, but these days you'd have to be a bit twp to fall for it.

Thing is, as we know now, the police say this in unenforceable and as there are so many back routes into Wales, what happens next? People will keep on doing what they're doing with little to no consequences probably.

Sometimes you have to have the courage of your convictions to make stand , its been at least 3 weeks since Drakeford starting locking down Wales and the infection rate has continued to rise , I wonder how many "tourists" may have added to those figures,

I think all the evidence shows the virus is spreading amongst the welsh population and not tourist. How do the explain why it is so low in the tourist areas of pembrokeshire.

I really don't know but I do know that I was prevented from staying in my sited caravan 3weeks agoin Pembrokeshire but the guy from Solihull and others weren't . whether that's the case now it probably is . I'm not wishing to deny anyone chance of a break but this has been a cluster8888 , not helped by the point scoring from all sides of the political divide

That's because Swansea is under local restrictions but Solihull isn't. The Welsh Government were encouraging people from low infected areas of England such as the south west to visit low infected areas of Wales such as Pembrokeshire to boost Welsh tourism only last week.
