The issue I have with people who say "well I would still prefer X over Y" is that it kind of implies that Clinton is only marginally better than Trump.
It's not even close. She is/was a centrist politician attempting to move an America which is pretty right-wing a bit more to the middle. It's a very difficult task and I don't begrudge her for it at all.

From a foreign policy point of view I'd suggest it doesn't matter who's there. Trump was constantly tweeting about getting troops out of Syria in the election run up, then as soon as he's in power he's launching the cruise missiles. Business as usual.
Iran is clearly the next country in the US' sights, though they'll be wondering still how to get their hands on Syria - that didn't go to plan.
