English on 11:57 - Jun 12 by Lohengrin | First off the insults last night were tongue-in-cheek to provoke a response, I'm sure you get that. You've seen it often enough on here. This isn't the right board for this but I'll have a really quick counter-stab. I don't think for one second you genuinely think that so much as a single individual out of those millions gave their life in defence of these island and the Empire. You can't do, surely? *I'll leave you with this.... at the time of the blitz on Swansea a fair percentage of the Luftwaffe's ordnance was manufactured in Russian factories in line with the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, under the aegis of the Treaty of Rapallo. The next time you see old, sepia photographs of the Kingsway flattened bear that in mind. |
I wonder if the Slavic people have forgotten about the English lead British 'Munich agreement' ? The Russians did not bomb Swansea, they were on the same side as us, it was the Germans that bombed Swansea and the Molotov—Ribbentrop pact was signed before the start of the war. Pre 1941 they were very much not on our side ,they are on our side after the Germans attacked Russia and if they hadn't (the Germans ) then we would have lost the war .

The same can be said for the Americans they were not on our side until after Pearl Harbour and Hitler declaring war on US. Yes we would have lost if it was not for the Russians.

Prior to Perl Harbour the US were supplying us much needed resources (Lend Lease ) so yes although they were not directly involved in the war they did have a major impact in how we were able to continue .A lot of our war materials such as weapons were sent to prop up Russia at huge loss to this country in terms manpower and shipping with the Atlantic conveys being the chosen method of supply ,something the Russians forgot at the time . The Russians did not forget at the time and even in recent times they gave our sailors the Ushakov medal, Putin himself gave out some medals if I remember right.

Churchill implored America to enter the war on our side but they wouldn't even after Japan attacked them they would not declare war on Germany, it was only when Germany declared war on America did America finally respond and declare war back on Germany. We were fighting on the same side as the Russians well before the Americans reluctantly entered the fray and that was only because they were forced, Japan attacked them and Germany declared war on them before they decided to fight on the same side as us. We were fighting on the same side as the Russians because they had no choice, when they did have a choice they allied themselves to the Reich. On a side note, those merchant seamen that took part in the arctic convoys were some of the bravest men who ever lived, a really special breed that I very much doubt we will see the like of again. My own point of view and it is my own, is that England have terrorized innocent people abroad for 40 years, was only a matter of time before the someone gave it back. Not that makes it right just a fact of life.

English "fans" on 17:00 - Jun 12 by londonlisa2001 | I don't think they are. But I'm assuming you can't throw 'the yobs of Marseille' out of France. I realise completely that the Russians have been looking for trouble. But as I said before, look at pictures of the English fans - a snarling mass looking for trouble as well. Trouble tends to attract trouble. I feel very sorry for the vast majority caught up in this and I pray that our fans are not drawn into it as so far, they have been an absolute credit to us all. |
Yes I recognise what you say from seeing pictures in the press and on the news, when you say ''look at pictures of the English fans - a snarling mass looking for trouble as well''.

They allied themselves to the Reich no more than we did, we had the 'Munich agreement' and they had the 'Molotov—Ribbentrop pact'. The Russians did not trust us because they thought that we had colluded with Hitler to give Hitler land in central Europe so at a later date they agreed a non aggression pact with Germany as they feared Hitler would team up with the West [Britain and France] against Russia.

So little old Russia were the innocents , I think not prior to the war Stalin like all dictators had high ideas of grandeur and thought nothing about expanding the Russian "empire" at the cost of millions and would have continued had Hitler had not decided to attack the USSR .

There is no such "race" as the Celts. And even if there was Wales/the Welsh has nothing whatsoever to do with them. We are ancient Britons my dear boy. But Israelis before that.
