Relegation Form 18:19 - Dec 1 with 7697 views | swanduck | I was a bit alarmed when my father pointed out we've had 10 points in the last ten games which is relegation form. Had been very happy with how things are going myself, views?

Relegation Form on 22:41 - Dec 1 by swanduck | Well I just asked him and summarised what had been said on here and he said "well they have had 10 points in 10 games they're too thick to get it" and now he's gone to bed. His words not mine. |
Tell him if you do it over 5 or 13 then we have a shout of European football.

I can see where your father is coming from.. but we've got 5 winnable games coming up.. so it'll probably change..

What are you bleating on about now for gods sake?? Is 8 points in 5 games good skip? 16 points in 12 games? How about 19 in 13 games?

If you take away all our wins, then we only have 4 points in 8 games. Take away our draws too, and it’s a very poor zero points in 4 games — worse than Derby You can see why some are concerned.

If you just took all the games where bony hasnt scored in, he would be sat on zero goals. Bit concerning.

It is, especially when you consider Gomis only has 1, which apparently is equal last in the PL goal scoring charts.

I've never really understood why people pick a random point to emphasise good/poor form. I remember reading before the playoff final that Reading were the forn team - which was true over 10 matches but the opposite over 5, 15, 23 and 46 matches. Before we played Arsenal sky sports preview said that we'd only beaten them twice in the last three seasons. Only twice!! I'm sure almost every team in the division would be delighted to have 7 points from 6 games against a perennial top 4 team. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Nothing.. our form has been average since September. I'm not complaining.. but you can see what her father meant.. hopefully Monk can get a few more wins in the next 8 games.. because we are gunning for the top ten (monks words not mine) [Post edited 2 Dec 2014 0:10]

So our form has been average since september if we ignore our form before it and what would you say our form has been like since November if we forget our form before it? 8 points from 5 games sees us on course for 55 doesnt it? Great. [Post edited 2 Dec 2014 0:24]

We've picked it up in the last 5.. hopefully we can keep it up.. turn draws into wins.. we have been average since September.. how can't you grasp that?.. first 3 we were in top form.. the next 5 we were relegation form.. and the 5 after that we've been alright.. not fantastic.. not that bad.. pretty average.. hopefully Monk can turn a few draws into wins.. can you grasp it?

I can grasp the concept yes, but i cant grasp the relevance. Why is September this magical important date that is more important than any other? We have been class since August, so why is that over-ridden by starting this form from September? It doesn't give a true reflection of the form dips and up turns of a season where you play a spectrum of opponents. If you disregard a section when you are on form then by definition it will show you being... Yep... Off form. If form is selective and from whatever date you want, then you can make it show any conclusion you want. 1) In our last 2 games we picked up 1 point, that means we are certain relegation candidates. 2) in our last 5 games we picked up 8 points, that means we may qualify for Europe. 3) in our last 10 games we picked up 10 points, that means we are in a relegation fight. 4) in our last 12 games we picked up 16 points, that means we will finish high mid table. 5) in our last 13 games we picked up 19 points, that means we will be pushing for Europe. Each point you wish to start from gives a completely differing meaning, and by giving importance to one over riding the rest, you must also apply that theory to the rest which by definition negates it - meaning the only "form" that is worth any sort of debate is one that gives the widest spectrum.... That is the whole 13 games we have played - 19 points. Great. [Post edited 2 Dec 2014 0:45]

Im "blabbering on about" perfect sense skip, take your anti parlay hat off for a sec and actually use your brain to think about this one. What is defined as current form? Current form is a random marker set that doesn't include anything before it as i just explained, in other words - nonsense. I will try another way to explain why random form data is completely flawed... Ok, lets say Bony played 20 games and scored 10, a good return, yes? He scored 1 in each of his first 5 games, didn't score in his next 10, and then scored 5 in his last 5. Do you think its fair to say "going on his last 15 games he only scored 5 - which is 1 in every 3 - which means he will only get about 12 this season, thats concerning". Its ridiculous. It hasn't taken into consideration his first 5 games where he was on fire and as a result has completely squiffed the whole scenario as it suggests in his next 18 games he will only score 2 when in reality he scores every other game and therefore likely to het another 10. Some 500% more than what the random form data suggests. Taking random starting points and attributing "form" for the rest of the season is just utter nonsense. [Post edited 2 Dec 2014 1:11]

In the last 5 games we have been "alright" have we? In our last 5 games we got 8 points which is 60.8 points come seasons end. Which going on last season means we would have finished 8th nice and snug 4 points below Manchester United. So what is more important skip, last 5 games or last 10 or last 13? because they all suggest different things? Should we be concerned or should we be looking forward to challenging for Europe? Or do you realise now its all bollocks? If our last 5 games being class gets over-ridden by us being average in our last 10, then surely by definition us being average in our last 10 gets over ridden by being class in our last 13. Understand now? or are you too anti Parlay to admit or even see it? [Post edited 2 Dec 2014 1:23]

Relegation Form on 06:31 - Dec 2 with 1273 views | jack247 | Our last 10 games have included the 2 best teams in the country and Everton away, as well as Arsenal at home. On paper, our next 10 looks a bit kinder with only Liverpool away and Chelsea and Tottenham at home out of the traditional big clubs

Relegation Form on 08:38 - Dec 2 with 1215 views | mbl1966 | Surely the 40 points is just a benchmark for a typical season. This season has the makings of an oddball year in that many of the rich, typically 'in the mix' at the end of the season teams are having a mare! More importantly, the teams that are at the other end are equally 'having a mare'. The worse they do, the lower the survival point is and one point per game will easily be enough. All becomes pointless though as we are going to get at least 10 points in the next 5 games and finish 6th in the league (2 places above Liverpool). I have a very sophisticated system at my disposal!!!!

Absolutely. Then us superfans can get on with discussing the most urgent and important questions of the day. Like are we a better fan for having watched the 1972 Autoglas Trophy 2nd round replay versus Mansfield Town, or the 1996 3-3 home thriller versus Leyton Orient where Nobby Davis scored all six goals.

Hope all you PMT bunch feel better after a good win tonight..and then that's 12 points in ten games I guess, which is I think Swanduck and Father Swanduck will agree a pretty much on trend for us and the 10 game drama will be over. Mind you, should we lose or draw...... As to a point a game, that will ensure safety this season.....Leicester, Burnley, QPR, Villa, Hull will struggle to hit 35 points, some will struggle to get to 25. Hope that eases your dad's fevered brow Swanduck! Keep posting.
