Canas 16:04 - Sep 1 with 13350 views | Swan91 | I get that he's not wanted here and we only got him on a free transfer but it would've been nice to get something for him instead of selling him for nothing. Even 500,000 would've been useful. [Post edited 1 Sep 2014 16:56]

and how much did they cost us? nothing, 1m?, nothing Some you win, some you lose. If players are surplus, get rid. if nobody want to buy them, then just get them off the payroll. Of course, the list contains players who run their contract down, what are we supposed to do there?

Canas on 18:17 - Sep 3 with 1778 views | Swan91 | Not all deals are going to be great for us. But will say that what we made from Sinclair and Allen more than make up for it. When we got into the premier league we had a lot of championship standard players and then once we got going in the transfer windows most of these players became surplus to requirements meaning that we wanted to clear our wage budget and bring in bigger and better players. We got rid of DDV and moreira and brought in vorm and tremmel. That's a great change in my opinion. We got rid of gower as he was getting pretty old and had a player like Allen play instead. Agustien was more trouble than worth so we got rid of him, simple as that. When it come to ngog and lita, I can see ngog only came here so we had some emergency players to make it through the season even though so many injuries occurred. He wasn't a long term player it was something we needed on short term. Now lita did not get going for us and was obviously not working with the team for years meaning we had to get rid of him (wouldn't be surprised if he was on about 15K a week either) On paper there's a lot of players sold for free but at the time it was the correct decision. As we moved on with the times and became a bigger club, we got rid of the players that couldn't keep up and got players that were bigger and better. And now we have signed players like fabianski and gomis on a free transfer which like Sinclair and Allen more than makes up for the player we sold for nothing.

Except for the likely 6 figure signing on fee plus the £20k+ a week we paid for him a year to get splinters on his arse and have tantrums. I hear there are some 5 bedroom penthouses in Mayfair going for next to nothing...

Is that the same way the swans buy a house in killay for 1.3m to house a certain manager and when he goes we sell 14 months later for 900,000, yeh great business sense that, we only get however million a year, and there's us giving people away for nothing, maximise every penny I say because you never know when we might need it

I'm new to this site, not new to the Swans. I didn't rate him that highly, but personally would have preferred him to either Shelvey or Ki as a midfield shield, as it is not a natural position to either of them. So far they/GM are proving me wrong and I hope they continue to do so. My preferred option would have been to bring a (better) replacement in and release him, particularly with Britton being out.
Canas on 21:46 - Sep 3 with 1548 views | ItchySphincter | Fair enough. Think we're better shot of him and his wage. I felt truly let down in his first game against ManU when he tried to give it the big I am against their midfield in the first couple of minutes and got sorted out double quick. Never stepped up after that except in that one cup game at OT where he was lauded as brilliant because he managed to do what he was supposed to do in every other game he played in. Not great to have around training either.

Neither Ki nor Shelvey are playing the Leon/Canas role, that just sits in front of the back 4.

Canas on 22:06 - Sep 3 with 1512 views | jack247 | Yes I know, they are both playing a more traditional CM role, which they are both more suited to than DM and sharing the defensive workload. I see Ki, if not both of them as advanced midfielders though. (Shelvey more box to box). We may well need a shield in front of back four in some games and I'm not convinced either of them is disciplined enough, or reads the game well enough to do it. Having said that, we are 3 from 3 and they were pretty comfortable at Old Trafford, so it looks like what we have got is working

What we have got is definitely working.... so far, due, in part, to the make up of the opposition midfield. I think the big test of that line up comes when there are seriously combative, high work rate midfielders in the opposition who win a lot of tackles and are capable of pressing our midfield and disrupting our rhythm. A combination of Nemanja Matic and Ramires in our next game certainly won't make it easy for Shelvey or Ki to find space but if they come through that unscathed, then just maybe we have found a winning combination.

If you think we can get a fee for every player we want to get rid of....then no, not bloocks, it doesn't work like you think it does. There is obviously a strategy in place but we're not always going to be in a position to get full value from a player. You can't force players to sign new contracts and equally, sometimes it's better to move players on, and get them off the wage bill. Most of your list was deadwood we didn't want because they were surplus to requirements. If no one wants to give us a fee for them that what are we meant to do? Leave them on the wage bill, taking money out of the club? Honestly, there's hardly any real value lost on your list. And holding on to the likes of DDV and Pratley because they were in the final year of their contract can't really be seen as a mistake given that they helped us get promoted to the PL. Regardless, over the years, the value we've lost on players is easily bypassed by the value we've gainedn signings such as Bodde, Scotland, Rangel, Williams, Dyer, Sinclair, Taylor,Routledge, Graham etc

Again bollocks... these players, agents and the club's they sign for.. are f*cking us around.. players want the signing on fee.. the agent wants a cut.. the other club want him for free.. now work out..how can we get something from this.. I know how.. and I'm not f*cking telling you.. because I'm unskilled.
