6 out of 6 but the real hard work needs to start from now. 17:33 - Aug 24 with 8854 views_

First and foremost that final whistle meant everything yesterday. The way the game had panned out it just seemed inevitable that Burnley would score and if they had, well, I don't want to think about that.

Games against one of the best teams in the land and a team newly promoted at home would always pose their challenges and it's full credit for us to be sitting on max points so far. When was the last time we won our opening two games I wonder? Having said that, we must learn from yesterday and go into the West Brom with a completely different mentality and arguably, attitude.

As most have mentioned the first half we looked bright. We were crisp in the pass, kept the ball well(ish) and looked to play in their half. Chances were at a premium though but that was nothing like as bad as the second half.

Ki and JJS were pretty dire. They should never be playing together again. When Burnley started to get more on the ball and upped their ante they genuinely looked like they couldn't cope, emotionally as well it seemed which is a big worry. We've got to get somebody in there to intercept, break up play, put fires out or whatever other cliche might be appropriate for a defensive midfielder. If Leon isn't back for another month then we need to really concentrate on this without any further hesitation. Just not having any possession and I think we created one chance all second half is just not on. Dyer and Routs may as well have not been on the pitch as we couldn't get on the ball to feed them. Our counter attacking was poor as well as they were pushing more and more bodies up field and why didn't we stretch them at the back? Inexcusable.

Siggy was also marginalised but at least he was at the highest point in midfield and without the other two behind him winning more ball for us then he was always going to look stranded.

It's a massive 3 points, not on paper before the game, but as it panned out. We may well look back very kindly on dragging out the victory in time. I'd rather we went back to Swansea City though, as Monk might say, and take a grip of the game and control it, especially at home, especially against moderate opposition.

Big performances from Ash in particular, Taylor after last week and Fab. In fact you can throw in the other two in the back 5 as they were solid as well. A lot of people were targeting Rangel before a ball was kicked. Well in the first 2 games I can't think of any time where he's been got at. Quite the opposite in fact.

It's not the back 5 I'd rather be complimenting at home though. Much work needs to be done and they need to study the VT as much as possible from yesterday. Let's not see that again.

You're all out of time....the past was yours but the future's mine.

Im assuming they haven't had their pay docked and simply spending their salary on ephemeral rubbish.

The food and drink in the Vesuvio is very good value I will have you know. I think this indicates that Canas is being rather careful after missing out on his appearance and win bonus.

Life is an adventure or nothing at all.

Yep, it's been a terrible struggle so far.

It's a long season - were you happy with our midfield options off the bench yesterday?

No but you've got Leon and Carrol to add to that plus anyone else that come in before the window shuts.

That is more than sufficient.

No way. We should be going balls out for all 3 against West Brom at home.

9 points after 3 games and we're a quarter of the way there. We'll be well in credit for tougher times ahead.

I agree but it wouldn't be a disaster to only take a point - IMO of course

The "plus anyone else" being key here.
Leon can't do it all on his own all season and from I've been told, Carroll is even less of a DM than Ki.

If we could possibly get 3 points against WBA then, assuming this season is like every other season where the teams at the bottom get roughly 1 pt per game averaged out over the season, the teams at the bottom after next weekend (who will be on 0 or 1 point) would need 8 or 9 games to 'catch us' - that's almost a quarter of the season they would need just to get where we are (and that's only if we picked up no points at all in that next 8 or 9 games).

That would give us an unbelievable head start in terms of our first goal, which has to be staying up.

Hope to f*ck we get Stambouli or someone similar in.

A lot of people on here seem to be struggling with the concept of a specialist defensive midfielder.

He certainly played that position at Sunderland last game of the season.

Imagine how many points we'd have got if we weren't so rubbish at everything, eh?

Oh yeah, six.

F*ck me pink. Some people ain't never going to be happy.

What are you getting at And?

Some people? Who?

And Phil, I got kicked out in the Forest game, If we're even on about the same one?? I tried to do a runner and leapt over a whole tier's worth of seats taking everyone down in my path and eventually got collared in the concourse below. Unlucky, I was, I nearly made it out ;)

Fack knows what Teabag is referring to though, is it that or something else??!

As for Lincoln, it's too dark to put on here.

I watched MOTD2 Extra today, where GM was interviewed, and he was quite clear that he wanted/expected two new signings by the end of the week.

I'd like to think it included a significant defensive midfielder signing, and am quite confident it does, especially after Saturday's 2nd half...

I'll wait until the transfer window closes (SLAMS SHUT) before going overboard on the state of our squad. If Carroll isn't a DM then I haven't a clue why we brought him in, but as long as we bring someone in to replace Canas and compete with Leon, along with another striking option (Barrow?), It will have been a good window for us overall.

I think you'll find we're not the only club in this division looking for last minute new signings before next Monday. Why are you coming down on Monk/Jenkins so hard for?
It ain't a perfect world for a lot of teams in the Premier league, bigger clubs than us too.
Canas has been left out for reasons that the manager/club deemed important.
Laudrup effectively did the same with Ki, his own record signing at the time too.

It's just the internet, init.

So if you got kicked out how does that relate to you having a vendetta against the board (which I think was the accusation)

I'm not sure that anything Darran could do is too dark to do on here??

Yeah it's called football and I fully expect FF and LB to be in our starting line up shortly and it'll make a difference.

Saved me the bother, agreed, I think we need a whole a bit more guile at Centre Half and Defensive Midfield.

3-0.. Cardiff.. 62-38%
1-1 Palace.. 69-31%… 82nd minute penalty
1-2 West Brom..62-38%…85th minute winner
3-0 Norwich..59-41%
1-0 Chelsea..38-62%…10 men..Ba scores in 68th minute
4-1 A.Villa..62-38%
0-1 Southampton..90th minute goal..

3 wins 1 draw and 2 late unlucky defeats.. The Chelsea game was a non event.

We've won 5 of the last 6.. and we're improving defensively.. only a plum could complain about the way we're heading... fans are blind.

Good use of selective statistics there.

A few quick questions.... do you really think we are still passing and moving as well as we were 2 or 3 seasons ago...? ...Especially at the Liberty? Are we still working the ball in triangles? When was the last time we defended a lead by keeping hold of the ball and making the opposition chase it around?

Against West Brom, Palace and Burnley we lost control during the second half (against weak opposition) and were hanging on desperately, and against Southampton I doubt our possession percentage was above 40%.

Monk has said he intents to return to the Rodgers style of play, and perhaps it will just take time. He'll know better than anyone the training methods that worked so well back then, which gave our players an almost telepathic understanding.

Our fitness levels and our pressurising to win the ball back are problem areas at the moment which are preventing us from controlling a game as we used to.

Being ejected from a stadium?
That s really something to be proud about then.

Still clear some posters want Monk to fail which means our team need to lose .

That way, they will be seen as being right all along the way.

God knows Ive given some stick at many but Im fooked if Im arsed about who is right or wrong on here.

The opening sentences of threads like this makes me think-who the fook do you think you are ?
