Poor substitutions cost us the match 19:53 - Feb 27 with 6891 views | Liberty | Routledge off Emnes then switched to left Emnes then taken off Taylor winger, the death knell. So defensive, gutted. Good opportunity missed, really good opportunity missed. Players did really well, on the brightside.

Poor substitutions cost us the match on 20:18 - Feb 27 by NeathJack | And no doubt if Monk hadn't brought Taylor on and we had conceded, the naysayers would be criticising him for not trying to shut up shop. It was a perfectly sensible move in the circumstances and had no bearing on the 2nd Napoli goal which simply came from a lucky ricochet falling at the feet of a £35m striker 8 yards out. |
the 2nd goal came because we pulled back and invited them towards our goal as opposed to keep the ball near the middle and in their area which was making them extremely uncomfortable when we did..

Poor substitutions cost us the match on 21:13 - Feb 27 with 1491 views | SwansNZ | We lost because... The back line (Ben) made an error and let them in, for the first goal. We got an unlucky bounce for their 2nd goal. We took a few wrong decisions when on some great counter attacks. We did not take more of our many chances. ... and Napoli are quite good, and have some good players, especially in attack. We move on, a few players have had a bit of a rest, so bring on Palace!!

Agenda? If you don't think substitutions we made today were awful and had a negative effect on game then you were watching a different match to me. Not hindsight, as soon as they were made, I stated so in matchday thread. Some you get right, some you don't. Monk is inexperienced and I am confident he will get better, not sure if that is as our manager. Thats an opinion, no agenda.

Poor substitutions cost us the match on 20:04 - Feb 27 by Parlay | Nobody should be critical of anyone tonight, everyone was excellent. monk as manager will have to make decisions such as this, some times they work, sometimes they dont. To say the changes cost us the match however is incredible. |
Hindsight is wonderful. Immense performance tonight.

Poor substitutions cost us the match on 20:29 - Feb 27 by Al_Bundy | Difference being we were not under great pressure or threat before the subs. The subs actually caused us to lose possession and play deeper and let Napoli in. Can see why GM did it but it didn't unfortunately come off tonight. |
I'm not knocking anyone, it was a superb effort, but I do agree. We sat back and we've never been good at it. Attack is our best defence!! I did think Rangel should have come on with Dyer, him and Tiendalli don't work. But all things considered, we were unlucky. It's still onwards and upwards, the future definitely looks brighter these days.

Watching a different match or just having a different opinion. Knowing that Napoli would throw everything at us in the last 20 minutes and bringing on an extra defensive option with 20 minutes to go seems a logical thing to do for me. You have stated you made a statement at the time that could still not be proved right whichever way you want to dress it up.

I think firstly we can all be proud of the job Monk is doing, he's got the players opening up the best defences with ease and the players have an extra spring in their step. Last night we deserved to go through, we created 20 clear chances over the two legs and scored once for whatever reason. I was convinced like many others that we were coping very well with them with 15 mins to go, the changes we made had a negative effect on us and handed the impetus to them. Dyer was like a headless chicken and Taylor didn't know what was expected of him, we had two left backs on the pitch and for the first time in the game we looked vulnerable and lost our shape completely, we had no outlet which ended with the keystone cop scenario that let to the second goal. Overall I'm extremely proud of the way we played against Napoli, but I am concerned at the amount of goals we've conceded recently (I know we've played Liverpool & Naploi away) we've become extremely sloppy at the back and the first two goals we conceded last night were shocking, we simply don't know how to defend a suitable scoreline as a team when we need to do so. 3-3 against Liverpool & 1-1 last night... What's Paulo Sousa doing these days? A blend of him & Monk would do the trick...

Poor substitutions cost us the match on 19:59 - Feb 27 by Liberty | I suppose thats one side of the argument. Sometimes substitutions have a positive effect on a match ( the ideal scenario) , tonight wasn't one of them. |
Things that cost us the match: Poor defending for the first goal; Damned unlucky deflection for the second goal; Bony missing at point blank range; Poor finishing or choosing the wrong options when the chances came; Lack of strength in depth on the bench; Having too small a squad to compete at this level; Lack of match fitness in Emnes case which didn't allow him to finish the game (up to his substitution he was immense) Having played at least two more games than any other EPL team; Playing three incredibly tough games in eight days; Travelling to Liverpool, back to Swansea, then to Napoli. Overall since GM has taken over the team & squad has performed tremendously. IMO under ML we would have been seeing the same uninspired performances as we were pre - GM, and possibly lost every game. My above list is not criticism of anyone, just the reasons I feel we didn't win a tie we could well have won. The whole team did really well overall last night and deserves our praise

Taylor on left wing did not strengthen us defensively though. We lost our shape and rhythym of play. When was last time Taylor played in that position ? It was too big a match for that kind of gamble. If everytime we are trying to protect a winning position ( 1-1 was in this case) we drop Routs / Emnes - an experienced left winger, for an inexperienced one / extra defender then I am worried. Very negative move backfired.

We don't know why Marvellous Marvin went off - my guess is tiredness - but to try and hold on for 20 mins? Not like we scored in the first minute and tried to defend for 89 minutes

Ok we made mistakes, but it was Napoli we were playing not sodding Bashley!! They had one player who cost 150% of the Swans team, Gonzalo Higuain. And we gave them a right good game. I never hide from pointing out what I think is wrong but the way some people are going on you'd think we'd been thrashed 15 nil by a pub side!! They did us proud, come on FFS!!

I did shout at the TV a couple of times early in the game, but so so proud of the performance. How many of us are perfect in work and never make a mistake. This was a game against a proper European team and we did more than most would have expected
