Saints Will Once Again Have To Wear Change Strip In Cup Final
Thursday, 26th Jan 2017 22:57

Saints will apparently be wearing their change strip at Wembley after Manchester United tweeted they will be wearing their home shirts for the final at Wembley in February. Vote now in our online poll

Saints will once again have to change their shirts for a cup final, something they not only had to do for the 1976 FA Cup final, but the 1979 League Cup Final and the 2003 FA Cup Final, even the 1992 ZDS Trophy Final saw a switch in kit with only the 2010 JPT final seeing the famous red & white stripes in use.

United tweeted to their fans after winning through their semi against Hull.

"We can confirm we will wear our home kit in the #EFLCup final. #MUFC"

That means that their red shirts will clash with our stripes and we will need to change.

Saints will now need to decide to go with their current black change kit or come up with a one off for the final.

The problem with the black kit is that it is not very colourful whereas a change kit might add a touch of colour and atmosphere to the day.

There are those that would like to see a retro yellow kit produced to remember that 1976 final and there is a school of thought that would like to see the Sash kit of 2010/11 brought back to life to commemorate our first ever kit.

Both would certainly prove popular with the fans and the yellow kit especially would add that colourful element as it did in Cardiff in 2003 and one fan on the internet has already designed this kit below.

So what would you like to see vote now in our online poll via the link below

Support the club's decision. The last thing they need right now is supporters arguing and protesting about shirt colours.

Anyway, the only colour more girlish than yellow is pink. As someone who was at the '76 and '79 finals, I'd have preferred it if we'd had different colours but supported the club's decision anyway.

PS We lost the '79 League Cup final in a yellow strip and that chant of 'yellows' with its association with cowardice is hardly likely to inspire a team, although it does seem to amuse Pompey fans.

Pity we won't see the red & white stripes at Wembley. We seem to do well in black & grey 'though.

Should win this one as underdogs, undoing the Scousers twice in the SFs will have made the press barons sit up and take notice.

Sadly this will be billed as the "Rooney Final" and loads of crap about Mourinho and which club van Gogh will join in the summer. Not an accidental slip by the way, think about it.

I am still thinking about it Saint Brock - I haven't got anywhere though.

Why not just stick with this year's colour. Yellow was our away strip in 76 and 79 - it isn't now. This final is about now - not forty years ago.

Although I really like this years black strip, yellow would be great. A real stand out colour.

Don't forget we wore the white shirts at Bournemouth. This would make an ideal change kit for the final. Yes, being romantic and wishing for yellow is going to be the peoples choice but the club actually already have a 3rd Kit this season.
